    Did you know:

In her early life, Coretta Scott King was as well known for her singing and violin playing as she was for her civil rights activism. The young soprano won a fellowship to the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, the city where she met future husband Martin Luther King Jr.

Africa, this group has ambitious plans to register 250,000 new Latino voters this year. We need to tie our own efforts into this in our communities. The key is getting Latinos to vote in off years.

You may have heard about the brouhaha with SOS Kerry yesterday that Susan Rice was tweeting about.

    Boycotting reality
Instead of welcoming Kerry, Netanyahu quarrels with him and refuses to understand that Israel’s most essential interest is ending the conflict.

      February 4, 2014 at 8:05 am

This will not go well for Netanyahu. He’s not every trying anymore.

      • February 4, 2014 at 8:09 am

Kerry has been honest and earnest and he’s just playing the same old game while the boycotts are mounting and their banking system faces new threats. What a shame not to recognize these efforts PBO has put forward. Shame.

I do not understand what Netanyahu is trying to accomplish

    • February 4, 2014 at 8:53 am

      From the article:

Netanyahu refuses to understand that Israel’s most essential interest is ending the conflict, and that Kerry is a fair, dedicated, mediator who needs the support of all parties in order to complete this complex process. Netanyahu refuses to understand that now is the time for big decisions, not small politics..

    • February 4, 2014 at 9:21 am

I wonder if part of the problem is that as long as we have the McCains, Grahams, etc. openly opposing the efforts of PBO and his foreign policy staff, Netanyahu may feel justified in his actions. In their efforts to try to remain relevant, they are constantly hampering any progress made by PBO, Sec. Kerry, and all those working to resolve this conflict.

Full of hate yet people vote for them

Conservatives Have A New Scheme To Strip People Of Obamacare Coverage

    • February 4, 2014 at 8:58 am

      from thhe article:

If that came to pass, more than 85,000 Arkansans who have signed up for coverage through the Medicaid expansion would presumably have that coverage stopped in 2015. Arkansas’s alternative Medicaid plan uses Medicaid dollars to pay for low-income residents to purchase private coverage through HealthCare.gov. A select few, those making between 100 and 138 percent of the federal poverty level, would qualify for tax credits to purchase new coverage through HealthCare.gov. But the poorest of them, those below the poverty level, would be left without insurance…

Good morning, Chips, and everyone awake. Yesterday, husband and I shoveled 75 feet of driveway just to get out of the house and get to the gym. Today, an ice storm is expected to start and last through all of tomorrow making driving of any sort treacherous. I am ready to cry ‘uncle’ on this winter and concede defeat. Meantime, one of our many candidates for governor dropped out yesterday and I’m hoping this becomes a trend. We need to start focusing on two or three prime candidates who make it to the primary and have enough of a war chest to win in November. In 2010, the Dem candidate spent all of his resources on winning the primary and didn’t have enough to fight in the general. Same thing happened to Joe Sestak when going after Pat Toomey. At this point, the vanity candidates need to bow out and support their favorite. Regaining the PA governorship isn’t a game. The state just can’t survive another four years of Corbett’s incompetence.

Fluke has filed with the California state Democratic Party to seek its endorsement in the race for retiring Rep. Henry Waxman’s (D-Calif.) seat, according to the state party Web site.

Mayor deBlasio was funny and smart on The Daily Show last night. Hope some of you caught his interview with Jon Stewart, who, by the way, wasn’t rude and disrespectful as we have seen Jon be with POTUS.

      • February 4, 2014 at 8:54 am

I’m glad that he gave the good Mayor the respect that he deserves, but I hope his viewers noticed the difference between how he treated the Mayor vs. how he treats the President as you did. This is 2014, and disrespect of our duly elected President should NOT be tolerated from any media figure – I don’t care how “liberal” they claim to be, or whether they’re comedians or not. Ellen de Generes does not disrespect our President and FLOTUS and she is very funny too.

I find it interesting that people get all outraged about the likes of Bill O’Reilly & FOX, but I do not find Jon Stewart and his kind any different towards PBO – they just disguise their hatred a little more and that’s about.

  13. February 4, 2014 at 8:21 am

GAH, why are these Dems resigning at this point in time? I hope we have someone waiting in the wings…..

As the “Bridgegate” saga continues, it’s interesting (and amusing) to see Christie’s pretense of *shock* at the behavior of some of his staffers. That any of them would lie, bully, abuse their power for the purpose of political retribution, be vindictive, be deceptive, not have a conscience…all of a sudden he is blindsided by this.

But who else would he allow in his circle? I suspect those are the qualities he looked for in choosing his staffers and signing off on appointees. Of course, Mr. Christie, they will do anything to save themselves…they are just following your example. These are not the sort of people who will graciously allow themselves to be pushed under the bus. Like crabs, if they go down, someone else will be going down with them…and anyone in the “circle” is susceptible.

    Good Morning….

I never was a fan of Cenk Uygur…but he is spot on here….:

The Sniveling Apologizers at MSNBC Don’t Represent Progressives

First, let me be clear that this is not intended for the hosts on MSNBC. It’s management that’s the issue. The way Phil Griffin has his hosts trot out for one apology after another is revolting. At least, he included himself in the genuflecting to the right-wing last time around. The whole display is pathetic.

If MSNBC cared about not presenting liberals as sniveling cowards, they would never go through these debasing apologies one after another. But they don’t care about that because the guy who runs the network doesn’t give a damn about how progressives look, because he isn’t one of them.

He notes multiple examples in the body of the article.

Anyone who can sit out the 2014 midterms after experiencing the GOP obstruction created by the results of the 2010 midterms can just talk to the hand. “Base?” Oh sure….like they EVER intended to vote. A bunch of Koch-sponsored Libertarians and Naderites looking to influence and demoralize OTHER true Democrats and hand the GOP a win once again.

If it’s not the Keystone pipeline, it would be some other manufactured nonsense. I just hope that Democrats don’t fall for this crap. Blago’s conviction is in appeal currently. I can’t believe that his defense lawyers have to fight to try to get ALL of the FBI wiretap tapes exposed. Judge allowed prosecutors to pick and choose which segments to air in his original cases, segments which shed the most negative light and were misleading because tapes were never allowed in full. Judge and prosecutor had a personal animosity toward Blago, but I could never figure out what he actually did other than juvenile bravado on phone conversations. And that got him 14 years. And if you were to compare Blago to all the junk being revealed about Christie and his corrupt operation, Blago looks like a most perfect angel in comparison. Let all the tapes be heard—–expose all the facts, let the whole truth be known.

Reality Check on Keystone XL: Despite Industry Spin, New Environmental Report Lays Ground for Denial

    Robert Redford

    Actor, director and environmental activist

The more people learn about the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline, the less they like it. Despite what we might be hearing in industry spin, the environmental report released by the State Department Friday confirms that tar sands crude means a dirtier, more dangerous future for our children, all so that the oil industry can reach the higher prices of overseas markets.

That’s right, overseas markets, which is where the majority of this processed oil will end up. This dirty energy project is all risk and no reward for the American people. You’ll remember that the president said he won’t greenlight a project that raises the dangers of climate change. The State Department report makes it clear that this is exactly what Keystone XL would do. Bottom line: The tar sands pipeline fails the president’s climate test. It’s a bad idea. It needs to be denied.

    HP blog

    • February 4, 2014 at 9:01 am

Question. I’ve read a few articles that left me with the impression that the crude will be shipped to Texas whether Keystone is approved or not. Is that anyone else’s understanding?

    • 85 dotster3
      February 4, 2014 at 9:58 am

Agree with Redford and trust those who know the most about this and have been trying to protect the quality of the environment for decades, not the usual oil industry spokespeople, and those who stand to profit, who could care less about the possible damage, only their greedy bottom line. We can’t continue to pour toxic junk into our land and water and air—creating a very unhealthy future for all.

amazes me how so many supposed “liberals” fall for this same game each time around. it’s been extra-easy in recent years too for the koch brothers “divide and conquer” games, since unfortunately a lot of these “progressives” have latent racist tendencies underneath their nice talk, and they don’t like how the darkly-hued president doesn’t do exactly as they say. in my own life, several of the most vocal critics of president obama are huge hillary and bill clinton fanatics. makes no sense whatsoever. here’s to hoping more and more wise up to the tricks this time.

    • 91 dotster3
      February 4, 2014 at 9:31 am

Some of that may be going on—–all kinds of political stuff goes on continuously—-but others no doubt have sincere, heartfelt, strong beliefs about this environmental issue and have for years, long before this current political climate. And Hillary, by the way, if her supporters are implicated here, was pro pipeline, I believe—–at least she was when she was with the State Dept.—-has a financial stake in its approval also.

      • 92 4morefor44
        February 4, 2014 at 10:33 am

yes, i don’t want the pipeline either, but i think the point is that one issue should not supersede all the other incredible progress brought on by our president. that’s my problem with these media games and the “liberal” (about 99% of them white people) reactions to them. many of my financially comfortable “progressive” friends scoff or roll their eyes when president obama’s name comes up, and it’s rooted in these wedge issues such as “public option” and now it’ll be “keystone xl.” they deride the president now for the “web site glitches” and so on. these are all designed to do specifically that, and keep people from focusing on the amazing amount of accomplishment and good president obama has brought. classic “divide and conquer” and i wish supposed liberals would stop being pawns in this game.
