Morning Chips. It’s still February (with another Arctic inversion on the way) and the doors in our neighborhood are decorated with big shamrocks or green wreaths or are flying shamrock flags, even though there’s only a handful of people here with even a drop of Irish blood. I can’t tell if this is St. Patrick’s Day spirit or a desperate desire to get us closer to Spring. Have a fantastic day and please stay warm.
Good morning Jackie. I was beginning to think it was just me and Chips this morning. Although I am going to be leaving in a few minutes for my morning walk.
Hi Africa. I’m usually here in the Early Morning and then I’m off to walk and to get chores done. Today will be busy, as I’m going door to door with election petitions. Hope you have a great day.
There can’t be any flower pots left, can there? Danny must have wiped them out by now. Maybe Danny is trying to encourage you to plant more flowers, to beautify his romping territory in your “garden”. (we say back yard—-I was confused when I first watched international house hunters and they would mention a beautiful garden—-and there wasn’t a flower or vegetable plot in sight)
Dotster, it is a complete mystery to me how he keeps finding more flower pots – to my knowledge, next door does not run a flower pot business, so I have no clue why they have (had) so many.
As for your guess that he wants me to beautify his territory – I doubt it. It was quite a pleasant garden before he arrived, it now looks like the moon. When the roses begin to blossom – or whatever it is roses do – I will hold my breath. I confidently predict he will remove them petal by petal.
Are you absolutely sure Danny doesn’t TAKE BACK flower pots at certain intervals so that they will be there for his next forays next door? Smart young man that he is, it occurs to me that he may have a system in place. There’s no way the neighbours could have so many pots unless they were in the nursery business previously. Danny-O taking care of pots recycling for them is probably why they haven’t been in any hurry to replace the fence.
Sorry, but the thought of Danny ‘stealing’ pots for you (to start your own nursery business?) tickles my funny bone. Where do you store them? Hahahahaha! ๐ ๐
GM everyone. I was out most of the day – just listening to Steve K – interesting chat about the Port Authority Police – whether or not they had anything to do with bridgegate – they have sure conditions way above the police who work for the State of New Jersey – seems like it’s time to disband the Port authority – why do they need 2000 police – earning up to $80/hour plus healthcare & a retirement fund that Christie said NJ police could not have. No wonder the toll rates went up!
Sad fact – GOPer on the investigating committee – being VERY partisan – thinks they should be investigating the mayors!! Wish they had left the assembly committee alone – the senate should have let them go – that was a good committee. Now have GOP members trying to STOP the investigation.
Just read the Tampa Bay Times analysis of the pitiful Stand Your Ground statute in Florida. This has to be the most dumbheaded law ever conceived. It has been used 119 times, all kinds of defendants for every kind of murder, including killing your ex-wife’s boyfriend. 60% had previous arrests for serious offenses, 67% went free. Many habitual offenders have learned to use the law to walk away from 1st degree murder charges. As was stated, this law doesn’t have a lot to do with self-defense but more to do with a right to bear arms, enacted as NRA and gun rights groups pushed for a loosening of gun laws—–conceal/carry etc.—-in Florida and in every other state.
Pope Francis has appointed 19 new cardinals at a ceremony in Rome – the first such appointments of his papacy.
Cardinals are the most senior Roman Catholic clergymen below the pontiff.
Correspondents say the inclusion of prelates from places such as Haiti and Burkina Faso reflects the Argentine Pope’s commitment to the poor.
…
Sixteen of the new appointees are under 80 – the age limit for participating in the election of future popes.
The new cardinals come from 15 different countries, including Spain, Italy and Germany.
Among them is the head of the Catholic church in England and Wales, Archbishop Vincent Nichols.

The Pope is encouraging cardinals – old and new – to think outside the box in formulating new policies for the Catholic Church, our correspondent adds.

What happens next in the cake competition? Pastry Studio finished 4th – so is in the final. We need a couple of hundred people to hold of voting until just near the end – when someone works out where the next voting link will be

Ukrainian President Yanukovych has said he has no intention of quitting and has described events in the capital Kiev events as a “coup”.
The opposition is effectively in control of the city and parliament.
Protesters have walked unchallenged into the president’s official and residential buildings.
