It was a beautiful snow today. The only time this winter that I actually enjoyed the stuff. It came down and just covered the trees and grass and never stuck on the streets. Now that’s my kind of snow day.

    Sousa’s pictures are stunning.

There is no snow that will look good to me until next Christmas Eve. Otherwise, I’m done with the stuff.

If I had had a gazillion feet of snow like you have I’m certain I would feel exactly the same way. My ♥ goes out to you all in these snow ridden states.

Will Man United come out victorious over Olympiacos? (And the fact we have to ask that question speaks volumes.)

Will Wayne Rooney have written into his contract that Man U must pay for all future hair treatments?

Will Sir Alex entertain any more 1980s pop stars in his box?

Stay tuned for “As the Moyes Turns”.

    Did You Know That?

In the eleven-year period between 1957 and 1968, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. traveled over six million miles and spoke over twenty-five hundred times, appearing wherever there was injustice, protest, and action. Meanwhile, Dr. King wrote five books, as well as numerous articles. While imprisoned, Dr. King penned “Letter from a Birmingham Jail”, which dealt with the implementation of a non-violent strategy against racism, arguing that people have a moral responsibility to break unjust laws.

I wish the whole South would just secede already. Let them take care of their own hurricanes and tornadoes and get off the ‘welfare’ that the blue states provide so that they have some minimal functionality.

        Let ’em go. Please.

        • February 25, 2014 at 3:43 pm

“Better Off Without ‘Em: A Northern Manifesto for Southern Secession”

Chuck Thompson—dubbed “savagely funny” by the New York Times and “wickedly entertaining” by the San Francisco Chronicle—spent two years traveling the American South to determine whether, as he’d long suspected but not yet proven, the whole country might be better off letting Dixieland make good on its two-hundred-years-old threat to secede. The result is a long overdue and serious inquiry into national divides that is deliberately provocative and uproariously funny while making a compelling case for “a kind of no-fault divorce for nation-states: no hard feelings, just two adults who can’t quite make the relationship work, shaking hands and walking away” (The Oxford American).

If the military budget cuts go through, they’ll find out just how much welfare they get from the government. 😉

What gets me is that every one of those states survives basically on the welfare given them by the Northern states, and yet they lecture us on ‘responsibility’. Disgusting.

My state would dry up without the federal government. The federal government is the biggest employer in the state….Tinker, Altus Air Force, Vance Air Force, Fort Sill Army which trains a good number of recruits, McAlester ammunition manufacturer……and our Senator Inhofe will be the biggest crybaby if the Pentagon tries to make any cuts here, all the while yelling about “deficit spending.”
              Texas is the same way.

They love to say that not everyone who disagree with Obama is racists. That might be true, but 99.9% of them are racists. There are to many racists sick ass people like that guy out there.

I would rather be Joy Reid than Ronan in this situation. Ronan reminds me of what happens almost every fall. Some freshman arrives with flags waving and trumpets blowing about how wonderful he/she is….how this person is going to blow the top off of every course, win all the contests…..you know the drill. By fall break, or T’giving break at the latest, that person has either gone home, or has settled into a very mediocre cee level existence.
Meanwhile, there will be two or three who come with no advance press, and quietly, persistently, consistently work and begin to make a mark both in classes and on the campus. I’ve seen this happen over and over again. It is hard to live up to hype!

Once again I just love that President Obama. Once again I could listen to him talk all day. I love the way he explains complicated things, simply, clearly, makes me interested in subjects I would not normally be thrilled about. And I love how he always interjects some humor—–re. the reference today to Chgo’s Goose Island Brewery. President Obama is way way up there, and his critics are way way down there—–in the 2nd subbasement. Not even on the same planet. He is a gift.

I hold GoBrooklyn responsible for this.

It’s shear madness! Brooklyn’s hipster beard craze has grown so popular that men in New York are rushing to doctors for “facial hair transplants” — surgery that helps make beards look thicker and less patchy, sources said.

Stubble-challenged guys are forking over up to $8,500 for the beard-boosting procedure, which has spiked in popularity in recent months, plastic surgeons told The Post.

“Brooklyn is probably the nucleus of the trend, it’s the hipster ‘look’ guys want. If you have a spotty beard, and you let it grow out, it looks sloppy, ” said Dr. Jeffrey Epstein, a Midtown-based plastic surgeon.

And the NY Post’s writing style is aimed at the middling 3rd grade level. Awful.

Why don’t they just keep shaving so that it grows in longer and thicker? Like my arm pits or the cut on my chin where hair grows. The more I pluck the thicker and more hair grows in that spot.

Things are getting interesting in the race for PA governor. The presumed frontrunner, Congressman Allyson Schwartz, is not catching fire with Dem voters and is falling behind in latest polls. Surging ahead is businessman, Tom Wolf, the very richest of the Dem candidates, who has managed to outspend all of them on highly professional ads that are giving him state wide name recognition. This, despite a lot of Dem county chair endorsements of State Treasurer, Rob McCord and Schwartz. Wolf’s positions are very straight forward progressive, unlike the former old style pol, Ed Rendell. At this point, which is still a long time before the May 20 PA primary, Wolf has the potential to buy himself the position that others in the race can only dream of. Prettyfoot and I will get to see all of them in action at a Friday night Governor’s Debate.

Federal health authorities on Tuesday reported a stunning 43 percent drop in the obesity rate among 2- to 5-year-old children over the past decade, the first broad decline in an epidemic that often leads to lifelong struggles with weight and higher risks for cancer, heart disease and stroke.

“This is the first time we’ve seen any indication of any significant decrease in any group,” said Cynthia Ogden, a researcher for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the author of the report, which will be published in JAMA, The Journal of the American Medical Association, on Wednesday. “It was exciting.”

President Barack Obama has ordered the Pentagon to get ready for an “orderly withdrawal” of U.S. troops from Afghanistan by the end of this year, as the chances the countries will reach a security agreement appear to grow slimmer. Obama spoke with Afghan President Hamid Karzai — who has appeared unwilling to sign the bilateral security deal — by phone Tuesday morning, and afterward, the White House signaled that Karzai was no nearer to signing the deal. That deal, if signed, would give the U.S. a legal basis for keeping troops in Afghanistan beyond this year, although fewer than the more than 33,000 still in the country.

Tell me that Pope Francis won’t be as important to the Church as PBO is to the US. From TPM:

This is much less accessible to a mass American audience than Pope Francis’s statements on gays or the poor or a lot else. But this headline ‘Founder of Liberation Theology Hailed at Vatican’ would have been unimaginable at any time in the last 35 years.

John Paul II and Benedict XVI worked doggedly to sideline liberation theology, equating it with communism. That this pope welcomes its founder at the Vatican is a real sea change.
