Night owl chat – Rest in peace, Paco de Lucia

As an avid PBS watcher growing up, it seemed that Paco de Lucia was always on some program or another. The renowned guitarist died at the age of 66. (I could go into the fact that there are a legion of others who deserve death far more than Señor de Lucia, but I’ll refrain.) In his honor some of his amazing musicianship.

Entre dos aguas

Concierto de Aranjuez

Impetu y panaderos

Mediterranean Sun Dance

Servillana a dos guitaras

Almoraima (Buleiras)

Rio Ancho

And so many more. Thank goodness for the Internet. Artists like him will never truly die

Chat on, night owls.

Terrific reply, HF. There had better be 100 percent of Dems who want both houses of Congress in 2014.

I tried to get a sense of the internals on that and OMG, look at these weightings:

The poll included a general population sample of 1,003, along with additional interviews to yield the following sample sizes: 519 Republicans, 515 Democrats, and 610 independents. The additional interviews were obtained through callbacks to people indicating party id on a previous poll. The total sample was then weighted to party distribution targets from the general population portion of the poll.

      Total Republicans
      519 (unweighted) 400 (weighted) (24%)

      Total Democrats
      515 (unweighted) 517 (weighted) (31%)

      Total independents
      610 (unweighted) 727(weighted) (44%)

Never got an answer to my question.

NEVER should a poll be “balanced” in relation to political affiliation – this is where pollsters who fail get it wrong. You balance via many other factors (age, sex, race – which are usually based on the census or equivalent. I think Nate Silver (among others) wrote this when the “skewed polls” guy decided too many democrats were being polled so he weighted based on his vision of the GOP % of the voting population – as did other GOP pollsters and this is why Romney was convinced he would win.

I just read all that again meta – anyone who polls this way should not be in the polling business – “calling people who indicated party id on a previous poll” – now there’s a not random idea!!!!!!!! Yikes!

Excellent question meta – and something tells me that you won’t be getting an answer from them any time soon.

Wonderful reply, hopefruit2! I am sick and tired of 2016 and Hillary Clinton! We have an election to win in 2014, which will make it that much easier to elect a Democrat in 2016, after President Obama’s policies, especially those intended to grow the economy, are enacted and implemented.

      • February 26, 2014 at 10:28 pm

        Could not agree more, nathkatun.

I purposely avoid anything about 2016 because it’s nothing more than meaningless speculation at this time.

It’s hard that people are drawing a salary in doing so.

One thing I like about Rachel Maddow is that she has a pledge (universal no sign over 2016) to NOT cover 2016 politics this year.

Wish all the media were like her and not waste their time and ours on this. But it does grate me that mediapeople earn a living on reporting meaningless stuff.

I would tell the 82% to worry about 2016 when it gets here, right now we want to keep control of the Senate and work our butts off to get the House back. It would be nice if those Dems would finally get over losing to Barack Obama in 2008.

AH! I have to weigh in on this thing…Brewer did what the $$$$$ told her to do. Plain and simple. If she could have gotten away with this POS offensive bill without pissing off the power brokers, she would have done it in a heartbeat. Money won, not morals or because it was the right thing to do. If she wanted to do the right thing, the moment she heard the fucking lunatics in the legislature passed this thing, she would have said right then and there that it was stopping at her desk and she wasn’t going to sign it because AZ doesn’t discriminate….THAT would have been what she should have done, if she was a leader…..instead, we got the dog and pony show….like she really needed to hear all sides of the issue??? There IS only one side….!!!! Honest to god….I can barely contain myself……and I truly would love it if every LGBT person moved to this state…ASAP…make their teeny tiny heads explode…..I’d love that so much….just walking around with the biggest smile on my face…..I have to say, they have overstepped the boundaries for most people here….and I hope that as people learn more, they start to connect the dots… just too many hate filled bills…..fear and division…..most people don’t want that, even here. There are good people here, you just hear about the lunatics all the time…..I hope this all comes back to bite them in the ass…BIG TIME! It might be done, but I hope this isn’t forgotten.

Df, the haters go too far because their hatred knows no limits. That’s when more people begin to see how truly evil they are and why they must be stopped. I hope that’s beginning to happen in AZ.

That’s what I’m hoping is happening, jackie….they always go too far…people need to PAY ATTENTION! And VOTE!

    • February 26, 2014 at 9:20 pm

Agree with everything you said, DF. I tweeted pretty much the same message. Yay for Brewer vetoing the bill, but the real point is that the bill shouldn’t have made it that far to begin with.

LL, thank you for this tribute. Concerto de Aranjuez is one of my favorite pieces. My son is an excellent guitarist and learned to play this piece very well while he was in high school. It brought me to tears each time he played.

i see ‘the news” is kicking the “inevitable hillary” into overdrive already. the billionaire “news” owners sure want her to be the democratic nominee, don’t they? i always ask her supporters, why is that? why does rupert murdoch hold fundraisers for her? i never get an answer.

i’m hopeful though, just as in 2007-2008, we’ll stop them once again, especially after we win the house and keep the senate later this year in the midterms.

  13. February 26, 2014 at 9:30 pm

So this happened and my heart burst open. still looking after the pieces. Hang in for first 3 minutes or so.

o/t can anyone tell me how to post this, or something llike, with the image (all i know to do is copy/paste url- thanks!)

      • February 26, 2014 at 9:54 pm

If you right click on the video at your link – there is an option to “copy video URL” click that – you can then paste into your post. There are probably other options – but I go for copy/paste cause I understand it 🙂

🙂 I couldn’t get it off the site that you posted from, so I went to the link in the story and got it from YouTube. Just clicked on the “Share” option on the video, and then cut and pasted. There you have it!

Yes, Jan Brewer is odious and vetoed the bill solely out of financial concerns.

But the shpadoinkle-tossing across the Right is a wonder to behold. This whole sordid affair drives another wedge between the people who tell the lies and the people who believe them. Those who tell the lies don’t have enough bodies to win elections. And those who believe the lies are now starting to see that they’re being used.

Here’s my contribution toward #Ukraine updates.

GCL posted a tweet earlier today from @MarkMackinnon who is on the Crimean Pennisula.

Here’s some tweets from another Canadian reporter who left Kiev on Monday and is now in the same area:

Check out his timeline for an interersting, quick look at the situation there.

Are there any American reporters in Crimea now? Or other English-langauage reporters to follow on Twitter? Thanks.

  18. February 26, 2014 at 9:53 pm

And I posted this just nanoseconds before NW posted the news about Jan Brewer’s veto on previous thread, LOL.

No response from TODville, so am posting again.

MSNBC really needs to get some seasoned producers on their new shows that reflects something other than East Coast limousine liberals.

Also, I’m distracted by how much Ronan favors Frank Sinatra.

    • 57 hopefruit2
      February 26, 2014 at 10:11 pm

I agree Arapaho415. This is nepotism at work. MSNBC is drawn towards the young privileged types because they can use them to undermine the middle class while pretending to be “liberal.” Nerdy Wonka had to correct him the other day when he tweeted some nonsense about PBO or the ACA – can’t remember exactly what it was.

    • February 26, 2014 at 10:19 pm

Oh, I take back what I said about no responses. Dotster did respond and said we should give Ronan and his staff to iron out the wrinkles, which is very fair of her.

I see zero MSNBC daytime shows, so I have exactly no opinion on any of the shows in their daytime lineup.

The only reason I posted this (twice) is that it’s another example of how myopic and un-selfaware the northeast elite are.

Yesterday I ranted about Michele Cottle’s attack on Michelle Obama last year, telling the First Lady that her children’s iniative was a blow to feminism and beneath Michelle Obama’s status. So I compared FLOTUS’ childhood obesity/let’s move campaign to that of JFK’s Phyical Fitness initiative which was pervasive in the public schools of the 1960s and even made it into a comic book.

Drip drip – more bridgegate documents tomorrow. Christie still ranting about his “internal” inquiry (the one that wants to talk to the Mayors – who sure aren’t part of the Christie administration) that will find out what happened – because he (Christie) was never going to ask his staff what/why they did – guess they would have told him!

He said he didn’t fire Bridget Anne kelly – he told someone else to do it – most bullies are cowards at heart.

“The politicians also noted that the proposed composition of the government does not include “a single oligarch, a single person who worked in Viktor Yanukovych’s government.” “The government does not include a single person who would be following some political trading”, he said.

“Such a government that has just been presented has never existed throughout the entire history of Ukraine’s independence. For the first time in the history of Ukraine, the government is being formed in this manner”, he added.”

It’s ~ 525am in Ukraine as I’m posting this … so we should know whether the new government is formed — in the next few hours.

    – hate on teh gays
    – stop people voting
    – hate on teh women
    – pollute more waterways
    – avoid health care

No services, no transport, no roads, no jobs

      Defies all logic

    • 77 Nena20409
      February 27, 2014 at 1:17 pm

      Nope. It doesn’t defy logic.

Dean had a 50 state strategy. Today, Dems do not. In many of those states, Dems have no candidate or the money to make the Dem Candidate viable. There are today about 49-59 races that Dems have no one contesting or even giving some push-back against a TBGOPer. In AL, TX, FL, SC, etc.

Dems Need to start defining issues in simple, LOGICAL terms that are easily digestible. It is also true that many will believe what they see on TV/Cable or hear on the radio. Since 1986…….GOP has created a Medium to drive their Jingoism to the populace.

Most of my fellow citizens lack basic Civic Lessens of how our system of government is to work. With a lazy, lame and corrupt media, Dems have got to develop a better way to communicate with the Majority of the people who naturally agree with Them.

I swear the GOP Obama-Hate-Parade never stops! Even vetoing a bill from her own state legislature that woman finds a way to blame the President!
