I was going to ask you to bake me something special, and decided against it.

Don’t bother. Seriously. Do. Not. Bake. Me. Anything.

I was just trying to be respectful of your busy schedule. Sheesh!

Here’s the silver lining: no longer will globs of batter on the floor cause any difficulty – Danny to the rescue!

            • February 27, 2014 at 5:55 pm

😆 I was making a salady type creation last night, 57, and dropped a chunk of red pepper on the floor. Yup, he pounced – and appeared to enjoy it very much. I’m afraid to Google ‘are red peppers dangerous for dogs?’, I fear the answer would be OMG! YES!’.

My dogs LOVE red peppers. And they have all lived to a ripe, old age. They’re a good treat, especially if weight is an issue.

I’ve been afraid to Google carrots and dogs – Mr. 57 goes through Costco-sized bags of carrots by giving them all carrots just for being cute. Which is, in my house, a minute-by-minute occurrence.

                • February 27, 2014 at 6:04 pm

Ha, I’m afraid to Google carrots too, 57! He found a safely stored – huh – bag of them the other day and when I looked out at the garden a bit later I wondered why it was completely orange. He didn’t appear to swallow any, just spat them out, but loved the crunching part of the experience. I have no vegetables left with this fella.

veggies helped to keep my dogs healthy. When my beloved Pilgrim had insulinoma (a tumor on his pancreas) I swear by the fact that, with the help of the holistic vet, he ate certain veggies that kept him with us longer. He loved all veggies – his favorites were brussel sprouts and beets! I would have to feed him by hand as his illness increased (and he was already quite old) and we’d call him ‘beet face’. You’d think you were giving him a piece of steak, the way he carried on for brussel sprouts!

I got brave and went to the Google machine: peppers (and carrots) are safe. Although carrots are high in sugar, which may be contributing to Mr. Kasper’s waddle. If spring ever comes to Chicago, he’s going to need a lot of walks to walk off the effects of this winter.

                • February 27, 2014 at 6:09 pm

You hero!! Some day we have to have a competition between Mr Kasper and Danny’s waddles – my money is on Danny’s being more waddly. I still can’t really believe the vet said Danny’s weight was fine, he looks chubby-ish to me, but I’ll bow to the professionals!

                    February 28, 2014 at 10:57 am

It’s because of his age and how fast he’s growing – I would think the vet believes it will even itself out. God knows, it’s not for lack of exercise!

I came home last night, and Nickelby and Kasper had created a ‘structure’ in the middle of the living room out of all their toys – all lined up in a neat semi-circle. They managed to find a pair of my shoes which were incorporated in this piece of art, with a doggie stuffed bone toy sticking out of one of the shoes. I took pictures. Wish I could post them somehow.

                    • February 28, 2014 at 11:01 am

Oh wow 57, they are artists!! That is the funniest thing ever, the shoes and the bone cracked me up!!

Wish you could see it – it was hysterical. And I swear I’m not making this up (I watched Kasper do this): he went to my shoe in the middle of the ‘structure’ and adjusted it so it would stick up instead of on an angle. He was quite determined.

                      February 28, 2014 at 11:31 am

Close….. In all fairness, it was Nickelby who started doing this with the toys and taught Kasper. After we adopted Kasper, Nickelby decided he was ‘too good’ to play with the toys and/or any other dogs. Until this interminable winter – he’s playing again and contributing to the artwork on my living room floor.

The bad thing lately, however is the cabin fever: Kasper has taken to attacking Nickelby for no good reason. I pull them apart, but when he escalates from 0 to 20, he does not submit easily. The advantage of little dogs – I’m a whole lot bigger and he ain’t gonna win.

Okay Chips – this is uber hilarious:

They broke up the structure this morning, spreading the toys to the four winds. I’ve been working on the computer for about 20 minutes – there is a new structure with a couple of different toys in the mix – a straight line this time.

Are my dogs brilliant or what?

                    • February 28, 2014 at 11:45 am

Oh crikey 57, you have to record this activity, you would have 96 gazillion hits on YouTube in five minutes – this is majestic!!!

I have to figure out the video on my my phone and camera and teach this old broad how to post on youTube.

Wait – there’s more: I went to adjust one of the toys in the new sculpture. Kasper came out of nowhere and put it back the way it was – you would not believe the dirty look he shot at me. “Don’t you know art when you see it? Sheesh!”

I sent Mr. 57 to the office today (he’s supposed to be contributing to the consulting/research job that we have). I am having the absolute BEST time watching these guys. It’s better than a vacation.

Pearl is doing what Pearl does: she’s ‘observing’, formulating a plan on how to beat them at this game. As usual, the boys won’t know what hit them when she engages…….

Me too, Hopefruit! Didn’t see the speech live as I was working. Just finished watching it right now on TOD! What a wonderful man we elected President! As some one who is approaching 70, I voted for a great number of politicians. But the three votes I am most proud of in my life are the ones I cast for President Obama. The first was during the 2008 Democratic primary in CA. The second was during the 2008 general election. The third was during the 2012 general election.

As my grandmother used to say, “talk is cheap.” I refuse to waste my energy on all the people who are busy attacking President Obama when most of them have nothing to show for their deeds.

I tremble when I think of where this country would be if Barack Obama had not been president for the past five years! He rescued us from the abyss, and people need to remember that. Now…..he can do the things he has always wanted to do with and for the country. People need to realize that too. This is nothing new in his head and heart.

    • February 27, 2014 at 5:55 pm

The question, “Why didn’t he do [x] in his first term,” has a simple answer: HE WAS SAVING OUR SHIT! FDR faced a Depression when he entered office. PBO faced a looming Depression AND TWO WARS. But yeah, he was supposed to shunt all that aside and assuage people’s fee fees. Or, more likely, do everything, because the country’s first black President was by definition a superhero, and God help him if he didn’t live up to every cockeyed expectation people had.

I’m pretty sure this is going to become an essay.

I’m doing my shift on our online librarian service. I get a question from someone in the UK. He says that he doesn’t have a library card with us, but he needs to use our online tutoring service. I say that you have to have a library card and live in California to use it. He replies “Well, how nice of you guys.” Yes, because we’re supposed to use our tax base to help a schmuck in the UK. Agitate for the same types of service in your libraries.

Bringing over from last thread because I am so annoyed with the critics of our PBO.

To the left wing Liberals commenting on TV…West and Smiley followers:

When was he supposed to do ‘MY BROTHER’S KEEPER’ in his first term?
While he was rescuing Bush’s broken economy?
While he was saving the Auto industry?
While he was bailing out the corrupt financial industry?
While he was trying to end Bush’s two wars?
    While fighting to get Healthcare?

Please tell us what time he had on his calendar while he was trying to get us out of the BUSH/CHENEY Hell Hole.
Maybe we missed the moment of free time or we just were not bright enough to observe it.

A totally devoted OBAMABOT… and proud of it.

By Nance Greggs (August 11, 2013)

If Obama makes a speech about a specific issue, he’s just spewing pretty words. If Obama doesn’t speak on a specific issue, he’s trying to hide something. Or he should have spoken about something else entirely, because when he gets specific about one issue, that means he’s ignoring all of the really important issues he should be speaking about – those issues being whatever it was he didn’t mention.

If Obama did it, it must have been the wrong thing to do. When it turns out to have been the right thing to do, then Obama never did it. And if he did do it, he did it the wrong way. It was too little, too late – or it was too much, too soon. It went too far – while, at the same time, it didn’t go far enough. And even if it turns out to have been right, it’s still wrong.

Until you are able to (1) Secure $350 M towards CONCRETE empowerment initiatives for young minority males, (2) Bring together a room filled with community activists, corporate leaders, tech experts, educators, government officials, and people from opposing ends of the ideological spectrum (including Bill OReilly and Al sharpton), (3) have a young man break down on national TV and hold on to you with gratitude, inspiration and hope because he feels that someone finally and genuinely cares, then don’t preach to us from your Twitter account about what “isn’t perfect” because this is as perfect as it has ever been…

It always seems to me that most non GOP critics of the President think he is that mythical being – who can leap tall buildings in one stride, solve international problems with a nod of his head and undo all the problems generated by past administrations (since about 1960) in a couple of weeks. They cry when it takes a little longer. On the other hand, the GOP critics also think that way but they try to bring him down via insults and racist attacks – and they cry when that doesn’t work.

Those who appreciate all that PBO has done – see him as a man of intelligence and vision – who does what he can – with what he has available. I am just so amazed that he keeps on keeping on. History will show the brilliance of PBO – such a shame that so many who live with it now refuse to recognize it. As I so miss my parents now they are gone – so we never fully appreciate what we have – until it is gone.

I think we on this blog and many others are lucky to witness, appreciate, and support this President. Down the line we will know we were on the correct side of history. Others may try to claim they were too as they do today with civil rights and other areas they were on the wrong side of. I believe our modern technology should make it harder to achieve a complete rewrite of this history.

Senate Republicans Kill a Bill to Expand Veterans’ Benefits

How many platitudes are we going to hear on the stump between now and November about America’s Heroes and Our Wounded Warriors? This bill was a put up or shut up moment.

    It failed.

Only two Republicans were willing to vote with Sanders, and the bill died a procedural death. The final straw was an attempt by Republican legislators to hang an amendment onto the bill calling for increased sanctions on Iran. There was also some cheap bullshit thrown around about the budget, most notably by Senator Jefferson Davis Beauregard Sessions of Alabama. There also was, spectacularly, some debate time taken up by, believe it or not, Benghazi, Benghazi!, BENGHAZI!
