WOW., I am so impressed by these young people at the #WhiteHouseFilmFestival…they are so fresh with ideas, inspiration, earnestness, and not one hint of hubris (Chris Hayes, take note).
Somebody please talk me down…I’m being bombarded with emails from DSCC as I can imagine you all are as well. I’m just so pissed at the general lack strong support for the President from so many Dems that I don’t want to give their asses a red farthing! I know how important fund-raising is, but dammit, they need to be out there fighting as hard as the President.
Sad to say, but I’m not even unpset with this type stuff anymore. The people of Arizona voted themselves into this type of situation, and now they must vote themselves out of it.
It’s like the WaPo poll Benen was flogging yesterday. Non-TP Republicans are actually relatively sane. But, if they do nothing to take back their party, then they deserve all the shit they get.
Armed men seize Ukraine airports, president accuses Russia of aggression
“Tribune newspaper and wire reports

SIMFEROPOL, Ukraine —
Armed men took control of two airports in the Crimea region on Friday in what the new Ukrainian leadership described as an invasion by Moscow’s forces, and ousted President Viktor Yanukovich surfaced in Russia after a week on the run.
Ukraine’s acting president accused Russia of open aggression on Friday and said Moscow was following a similar scenario to the one before it went to war with Georgia in 2008.
Urging President Vladimir Putin to stop “provocations” in the Ukrainian region of Crimea, Oleksander Turchinov drew a comparison to Russia’s intervention in Georgia over the breakaway Akhazia region which has a large ethnic Russian population.
“Russia has sent forces into Crimea … they are working on scenarios which are fully analogous with Abkhazia, when having initiated a military conflict, they started to annex the territory,” he said in televised comments.”
“UN Security Council holds emergency session on Ukraine
Reuters — The UN Security Council will hold a closed-door emergency session on the escalating crisis in Ukraine on Friday at the request of the new Kyiv government, which warned that the situation in Crimea threatened Ukraine’s territorial integrity.
Armed men took control of two airports in Ukraine’s autonomous Crimea region earlier on Friday in what the country’s leadership described as an invasion and occupation by Russian forces. Russia denied involvement in the airport seizures.
“Due to the deterioration of the situation in the Autonomous Republic of the Crimea, Ukraine, which threatens territorial integrity of Ukraine … I have the honor to request an urgent meeting of the Security Council in accordance with Articles 34 and 35 of the UN Charter,” Ukraine’s UN Ambassador Yuriy Sergeyev wrote to Lithuanian Ambassador Raimonda Murmokaite.”
If you go to 36 Lispenard Street, in New York’s Tribeca neighborhood, you will find a plaque erected by the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission.
The plaque honors the work of the people who, during the time before slavery was abolished, helped shelter women and men who were escaping from the horrors of the South. The house served as a crucial station on the Underground Railroad; the LPC estimates that over 1,000 slaves passed through its door.
The plaque specifically mentions a man named David Ruggles, a remarkable figure in the history of New York City, journalism and the epic, heroic battle that abolitionists fought to defeat the scourge of slavery.
Ruggles’ story is incredible. Born in 1810 in Connecticut, he became a fearless and tireless campaigner against slavery and discrimination. A century before Rosa Parks, he deliberately sat in the “white” section of a train, and then sued the railroad company when he was thrown off.
It’s called “Russian Spring”, by noted scifi author Norman Spinrad. It was published just before the Soviet Union imploded, and posited a near future world in which the Soviets were integrated with the Europeans, and the US was a deadbeat, isolated nation run by a very presciently predicted Tea Party-like GOP.
The novel’s denouement involves Ukraine trying to break away from the Soviets, with the Soviets threatening massive bloodshed to hold together the empire. Somehow, an Obama-like figure ascends to the US Presidency (after the elected President dies of a stroke brought about by an argument with his then VP). And this new President has an ace up his sleeve: a fully functioning Star Wars anti missile system. I won’t ruin how he saves the day in case you folks want to pick up the book, but the book has been in my mind ever since PBO took office. And now life is imitating art in the most alarming fashion.
What is happening in Ukraine is somewhat what I thought would happen. Putin basically believes that he can do whatever he wants and the world is too weak and soft to stop him. He’ll make a small step, see the reaction, and if it is muted, will take the next step.
Meanwhile, we have Senate Republicans block a bill to expand benefits fior veterans, for whom they profess a deep and enduring love, ostensibly because they are concerned about costs (who the hell cares, take care of the folks you sent into war). Actually it was because it didn’t include new Iran sanctions, which, if implememnted would open the way to more bloodshed.

Well I had my Metamucil dump of the day. 🙂 If you keep taking on a daily basis, it works. It has to get into your system. [“The cynics may be the loudest voices – but I promise you, they will accomplish the least”, Barack Obama, May 5, 2013, Ohio State University commencement]

Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) declared Friday that “we are all Ukrainians” in response to the news that Russia had taken over parts of Ukrainian Crimea.
“We are all Ukrainians,” McCain said in an interview with TIME magazine published Friday. The comments came ahead of President Barack Obama’s announcement that he would address the events.

I stopped donating to the DSCC/DCCC and now donate only to individual Dems (once I’m familiar with their campaign platform).
Dakota, I hit delete, delete, delete. They don’t hear us, why should I support them.
I support the OFA
Thank you! I actually do delete just about everything and I do support OFA as well as local Dems. A damn shame it has to be this way.
I delete because I’m sick of the doom and gloom messaging.

I guess PBO must be getting updates on the volatile situation with Russia/Ukraine, hence the delay. Hope it starts soon. Live-streaming has resumed. 🙂
Here he is!

That’s the truth japa!
Just In: PBO to deliver a special statement on Ukraine at 4:45PM ET.
… while MSNBC covers GITMO. And – who knows – more on the Oscars.

Russia to the world: Who ya gonna believe? Us or your lyin’ eyes?
Kristen Welker is a ass…….she is already spewing before he even makes a statement. !….Mute.
MSNBC was so bad I switched to CNN and accidentally (before I spared my brain) heard Jake ask Gloria “what the President needed to do next.”
Here’s the President – let’s ask him!
Gloria Freakin’ Berger is supposed to know what to do next in the Ukraine? OMG, they are hideous.
They are so full of themselves and their hot air, I’m sitting here hoping they’ll just burst like balloons and fly away.
Make it stop.
A war will break out and Americans won’t know it.
Sounds about right. For FoxNews. For the rest of the world? Not so much.

Ummm COS did you mean to post this?? 😆
No, I did not post this. I wonder if my email has been hacked.
Thank you, Mr. President.
Mute.
I’m sure the jackals were told “No Q&A,” but still they yelled out in their idiocy.
Kristen Welker said ” That’s the headline ” ” That’s the headline “…..We heard something ” New ” the President is ” Deeply Concerned ”
” That’s the headline ” !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you, resident mainstream media!

NW, I think PBO also said VP Biden spoke with the Ukraine PM today?
Did you hear that or did I get it wrong?
I heard it too.
Yes, he did say so.
