LMAO Hey Toon, come on over; join the fun, don’t be a killjoy – we know it’s Wednesday and you probably wished it were Friday but it’s all good.

I’m going to watch this video – AGAIN 🙂

Hey, I’ve got a meeting at 11 “tomorrow” morning, which I have to chair, i.e., in five hours – and I still have to go to sleep 🙂

        • March 12, 2014 at 11:32 pm

I thought about this some more.

Perhaps not everyone understands that I shut off Television over 30 years ago; I got Internet-at-home 22 years ago (that was text-only, at the time).

Web video’s are only something of the last 5-7 years.

The reason I found the initial subtitles were funny was because “Barack Obama (SP?) Community Organizer” brought back the memories of the (then community organizer) Barack Hussein Obama trying to explain the spelling of his name to his “constituents” – and the discussion about texts on cars like “Jesus Christ was a community organizer, Pontius Pilate a governor” during the 2008 election cycle.

A lot of humor is recognition – and then the upset (what’s different from the continuation you’d expect).

The rest brought an occasional smile (“I won’t let you near Michelle”), or “a third term would be like Hangover 3”.

BTW, Television is on its way out. Last year I was in Las Vegas for a meeting of the Fortran Programming Language Committee meeting, I noticed one channel on the hotel TV supply for the 50+ crowd: Memorable Entertainment Television (M*A*S*H*, etc.). This year there were three. This medium obviously is going the way of the Dinosaur.

          Off to bed now …

Well I may as well take a hit – I’m taking heaps in my world at the minute for all sorts of things.

I didn’t think the “ferns” was very funny – but found that related to the other guy – not PBO. I did, however find the right wing reaction hilarious – they made sure every person on the planet watched to see what they were ranting about – and consequently helped spread the ACA word around. Mission accomplished – as had been said. That there are now many discussions on how, when, where and why it was done – all the better for the show and for health care in the US. I’ve never seen a so called comedy dissected in this manner.

I don’t find that type of show amusing – might be where I live – the long domination of british comedy in my world – or my age – but if the target audience gets the message – who cares.

Well, today was a bad day in my neighborhood. A shooting went down right near the library we were supposed to give our Climate Reality presentation in, so we had to postpone it. The area is still a crime scene and being processed. The policeman only suffered a would in his upper arm. He took out the shooter who may have been the creep reportedly stalking teenage girls this week in his van. Not sure yet. Too many crazies with guns!

Our POTUS and FLOTUS are out there immersed and engaged with the American people and culture. And people respond POSITIVELY to them. Every program wants PBO & FLOTUS to come on their show. They drive traffic wherever they go. And it’s a good thing for the country! 🙂 🙂

i so love that our first lady is reaching out to children in military families. may dad was a lifer in the marines, and i never felt we were part of the community, part of the fabric of the nation, part of anything but the marine corps. it’s amazing that flotus has recognized this hidden, sad reality, borne stoically by most military families. and she’s addressing it with kindness, humor, and a determined toughness that means business. best first lady ever!!

thanks anniebella. i know he faced the most horrid situations with valor, and i know my own lost feelings were nothing next to that. yet when you’re a child, without that perspective, the beautiful first lady acknowledging your feelings is a great gift of compassion and support.

Anyone interested in listening to part of a discussion re healthcare comparison… Check out the segment (on the C-Span vid) starting ~ 1:00:15

By far the high point of the morning was an exchange between Sen. Richard Burr (R-N.C.) and Danielle Martin, a physician and health policy professor from Toronto. The exchange, in which Martin bats down the myths and misunderstandings about the Canadian system that Burr throws at her, starts at about the 1:00:15 mark.

(The reference to “Premier Williams” is to Newfoundland Premier Danny Williams, whose decision to have a heart valve procedure in Miami, near where he owns a condo, rather than Canada, is widely viewed in Canada as a rich man’s failure to investigate the care available to him closer to home.)

Here’s a lightly edited transcript of the key moments, which start with Burr asking Martin about the observation in her written testimony that wait times for elective surgery in single-payer systems will lengthen as doctors move out of the public system:

On departing, perhaps one of the best ways to support Ukraine is to dispel all the distortions about just what Ukraine is.

“Each of these examples leads to an utterly and irredeemably inane result. Yet the predicate model institutionalized by the Kremlin has been accepted with myopic, monosynaptic conviction by all. The theft of another country’s history and its essential disappearance has ensconced a larcenous litany. It has been fully absorbed, nurtured and then repeated with breathless conviction by all Western institutions, from elementary schools and Ivy universities, to CNN and FOX News, and to Congress and the White House.”

      good night TOD

Before departing, would also urge all of you to read Charles’ essay …

Could not imagine a better time for all of humanity to reflect on the most essential survival tool we have – the tools that separates us from mere Darwinian expediency – EMPATHY, COMPASSION.

        YES WE MUST

“In the end, I realized that we humans are the only thing that can break away from the Darwinian cruelty of the world; we can help each other, we can support each other, and we can all benefit from that. From either a selfish perspective, one of rational-self interest, or a human, empathetic, and sympathetic stance, it makes sense to provide for the destitute, to educate the ignorant, to help the sick, and to otherwise do what we can to catch those who fall through the cracks.”

Gosh, he sounds like someone who wants the real christian ideals to be at the forefront. I read Ayn Rand at 18 and had almost exactly the same reaction. It wasn’t until I had a child that I realized that rational self interest meant caring and helping others – that our world can only survive if we care about others – that altruism is truly a virtue.

    Hi Toon:

I read the commentary regarding ‘Between Two Ferns.’ These ‘interviews’ are intended to be awkward and uncomfortable, even cringe-worthy. Galifianakis is Steven Colbert on steroids. He was an excellent foil for PBO.

I love and admire my President and First Lady. President AWESOME and his FANTASTIC First Lady.

    NO apologies. NO qualifications.

And it’s about DAMN TIME Democrats stop ‘qualifying’ their support for Obamacare. (BTW, I love this. I think it has backfired on the Rethugs, like most of what they do. A minute in the shadow of their hatred, a lifetime in the hearts and minds of the people whose lives have been changed)

Ed Shultz said Dems need to stop talking about ‘fixing’ Obamacare. I agree. The Affordable Care Act is a minor miracle. They should talk about how Wonderful it is, and about what it has already achieved. (Stop making lame speeches. Act like they understand 21st Century media. MSM will not change, so we must speak to them as though they are children. Clearly articulated and coordinated sound bites. It’s time to get down and dirty with the Rethugs.) As Amk said quite aptly, they are redundant and quickly becoming obsolete.

The Rethug intentions are clear. They want to tarnish PBO with their pathological lying. As a consequence of our midget-media, they have largely succeeded, but only in the short term.

The unintended consequences are far-reaching. The more they bitch to the MSM to create false narratives and FAKE scandals, which are duly ‘reported’, the more widespread the publicity for the very policies they want to destroy.

    Also, too, Benghazie.

I watch Ed show when he said those things and I agree. I would like to see Democrats find real people who are please with the ACA (Obamacare) let them talk about how it has help them. Let’s see people talk who have never had health insurance before and now thanks to Obamacare they do. Let put these people forward, instead of all the time seeing the right wing haters putting forth lies, and liars.
