    Anyhoooo, some perspective.

Covington must’ve been reading some of our tweets last night, because that’s exactly what we were saying. Furthermore, the media or anyone else really cannot claim that the ACA had anything to do with Sink’s loss – because since 2000 (I don’t have the data for prior to 2000), the only time a Democratic Presidential candidate WON that district was in 2012, when Barack the Democrat himself RAN on Obamacare, and Mitt the Republican ran on repealing it. Gore, Kerry, and Obama (in 2008) all lost the district when there was no Obamacare to run on!

But most importantly, this result underscores the idea that oftentimes, congressional races have their own idiosyncratic voting patterns which are independent of the President and Presidential races, and this is true for the FL-13 district. The media’s insistence on tying every Dem loss in a local election to Barack Obama is as stupid/juvenile as it is invalid.

The problem is not Obama or Obamacare. The dem candidate and the lazy dem voters are the issue. Apparently, 55 K dems from 2102 didn’t turn up y’day. If they did, we would be celebrating a win today. Obviously, GOTV sucked (especially for a candie who lost last time around and still didn’t learn anything from it) and that there is still the need for a GOTV for dems sucks harder.

          March 12, 2014 at 9:57 am

But amk, the same 55K dems who turned up in 2012 still did NOT vote for the Dem candidate in 2012 – even though they showed up to vote for PBO. The Republican won that seat by 15% in 2012 (when Obama was on the Presidential ballot), whereas the Republican only won by 2% in 2014 when PBO was not on the ballot.

So I don’t think this is so much a GOTV problem as it’s simply a demographic issue which is slowly but surely becoming more Blue. Of course, a more charismatic candidate than SINK for the seat can never hurt.

“the same 55K dems who turned up in 2012 still did NOT vote for the Dem candidate in 2012 – even though they showed up to vote for PBO”

Aarrgghh – that paints a still worse picture, doesn’t it? They voted for Obama and yet did not vote for the local dem or worse, voted for the rethug.

Yes, that’s what it suggests. Either the Dem congressional candidates are so dull that they simply don’t inspire confidence/enthusiasm, or the DEM voters themselves have a strange way of voting.

I suspect that the candidates are (mis)advised to distance themselves from PBO and his policies, which in effect makes them unappealing to the Dem voters who yearn for someone like PBO. People like Allyson Grimes (KY) need to take lessons from this…

President Obama this week will seek to force American businesses to pay more overtime to millions of workers, the latest move by his administration to confront corporations that have had soaring profits even as wages have stagnated.

On Thursday, the president will direct the Labor Department to revamp its regulations to require overtime pay for several million additional fast-food managers, loan officers, computer technicians and others whom many businesses currently classify as “executive or professional” employees to avoid paying them overtime, according to White House officials briefed on the announcement.

    Good morning everyone:)

Good morning. Wish I could speak French well enough to read the whole France GQ story, always supposing I could find a copy in this area. Would love to know what “secrets of youth” the magazine offers about our president. Could some enterprising French speaker let us know? Yesterday when nomination petitions were due in the state of PA, one of our governor candidates–the weakest– didn’t make it, but an unexpected and unannounced one did, so we are still at six going into the May primary, which is way too much. The only African American candidate running for either governor or Lt. Gov had the signatures, but didn’t make it into the Election office in time–a really heartbreaking outcome.

      Oh my gawd:

Then, ABC’s Jim Avila leapt in to ask the worst questions of the day.

“How much discussion was there in the White House about the dignity of the office?” he wondered. (Answer: none, maybe?) “Was the presidency in any way damaged?” (Guess what Carney had to say about that.)

        March 12, 2014 at 9:08 am

It has bothered the WHPC & the media immensely because (1) they didn’t see it coming, so they couldn’t get their talking points PRIOR to the event and (2) it was really, really effective!

        G’morning Chips & TOD!! 🙂

I was watching Jim Avila, but I saw were he was heading and I turn the channel. I did not want to hear his bull crap.

      • March 12, 2014 at 9:15 am

I’ll tell you one thing – the old way is out. President Barack Obama has changed the way presidents interact with the public in a profound way. If future politicians want the youth (or anyone who aren’t political junkies like us) to pay attention to politics, you have to go to them. This Get-Off-My-Lawn mentality has to stop. Since when does providing an avenue for your constituents to obtain valuable information degrade “the dignity of the office.” Give me a freaking break.

It’s 2014, not 1914. Even though Republicans might wish it were 1914. The black folks knew their place back then and it was not in the White House, unless it was cooking and cleaning,

          • 43 anniebella
            March 12, 2014 at 9:28 am

And the media, the MSM don’t like it cause this President goes over and through them to get his message out to the public. They feel ignored, then they start pushing this bogus bull about the dignity of the office.

        • March 12, 2014 at 9:28 am

x 1,000,000,000 Collegekay. That’s precisely what has them freaking out every time PBO bypasses them like this to get his message out – they are slowly learning that they can’t control the messaging any more. They are still recovering from the shock of him winning a second term despite four years of GOP-shilling efforts.

        • March 12, 2014 at 6:01 pm

Damage the Presidency? They have the nerve to say that when they out and out lie about the President’s policies and actions! The MSM has done more to damage the office of the President due to their undermining the reputation of this President.

Indeed – “Why not”. No matter that the world is crazy … Crimea, Syria, lost plane, U.S. politicians, and my siblings families are having lots of challenges with health and unemployment … just waking up with Barack Obama in the White House makes me thankful to be alive. Thank you for the love and labor that you put into this wonderful, uplifting, space. You rock!

Which Is It? Two Polls, Two Very Different Approval Ratings For Obama

Color me shocked that the Chuck Todd, Rupert Murdoch poll has low numbers……

I would say the Bloomberg poll with the higher numbers is accurate. There is just a slight difference in attitude toward PBO I sense overall. And, his numbers on the handling of the Ukraine Crisis are good…..people approve of his diplomatic approach. I suggest that the other poll is tracking too slowly.
