      Good Afternoon TODVille,

Anyone has a link to the President’s event? I mean, one that shows the crowd in waiting.

Dotster, in response to your question about how people around him when he visits food places appear to be acting as if nothing is happening, I’ll give you some personal (second hand) experience.

In 2009 President Obama came to the “Five Guys Restaurant” here on the first floor of the building where I work. This place went crazy. Yes, I lost my mind and grabbed my purse and ran down 10 flights of stairs. No not my cellphone to take pictures but my purse because for some crazy reason I had this notion that he was going to take me with him. Yes, as I said for a moment there I lost my mind but I digress.

A couple of my co-workers were in Five Guys ordering food when he arrived. They said the SS came in and told them that the President was about to enter the Restaurant. They were instructed to not make any sudden moves or lunges at the President. They said that he would probably greet them but to try and be as normal as possible. They were told they could take pictures but to wait for the President to acknowledge them otherwise try and enjoy your lunch.

This is why so often you see people just eating like nothing is happening. But yes, there will always be some people who don’t share his politics and resents him invading their eating time but they are few and far between.

That’s what I wondered about – whether people were explicitly instructed to “act as normal.” Thanks donna for confirming it!🙂

Thanks for sharing that story Donna. I remember him visiting that particular Five Guys early on in his presidency. I think there are some footage of that visit somewhere on youtube.

I laughed at you grabbing your purse——important to have in case——just in case—–he was insisting you leave with him and ride off into the sunset. 🙂 (I think I’ve had that same dream)
And thanks for the first hand explanation——-I won’t hate on those disinterested appearing co-eaters any more and will stop calling them “lamebrained piggies”.

    • April 2, 2014 at 3:34 pm

hahahah……what was your time down the stairs Donna…..i do understand…i do not think i would be able to move…i would be stunned…yup i would be

It felt like seconds. When he left Five Guys I was standing out on the street and he drove past me in the Beast (he looked so tiny in that big car) I waved at him and he waved back and I just about died right there on the street🙂

There must be something lost in this Comedic skit.

Fallon likes POTUS and FLOTUS. He was probably trying to be like Stephen Colbert or something. Or he was sky high on some chemical.

Ugh, cheap and lazy writing by the Fallon staff.

This Fallon clip is much better. It’s Stephen Colbert talking about how thrilled he was at getting to sit next to FLOTUS at the French state dinner. I saw that Amk was trying to share this on a previous thread but only had a tiny image with subtitles. Here is the YouTube clip and Amk was right, funny and touching:

GOP original idea: Repeal Obamacare…because they haven’t tried that 50 times. The President is on a roll !!!!!

President Obama IS DEFENITELY saying that the campaign is ON !!!!!!

Great speech. It’s so wonderful to see him in good spirits. He has been working so so hard and has taken so much crap. The good news of yesterday have obviously made him very happy ….

  28. April 2, 2014 at 3:25 pm

I am really enjoying how vocal the audience is in their agreement with what the President is saying.

Watching the President speak on raising the min wage! We truly have a President who is a man of the people. Only one I’ve seen in my lifetime.

I can’t thank you enough Chips (and all of your helpers) for providing us with this blog and with these important clips and links and all the news. I am so much more informed that most of my friends who are intelligent, educated well read people, but who rely on television news and mainstream newspapers and news sites for their info. I know this is a lot of work for you and I appreciate it so much, your work is noble work.

I said the same thing to the rep from CoveredCA I spoke to this morning. She resolved a minor address change issue I had and she, like everyone I have talked to there, was so helpful and professional and friendly. Best customer service I’ve ever experienced. When I thanked her for her hard work during this enrollment period, she said she was going to cry!

I was very glad to hear the President celebrating no fatalities in combat in March. Plus PBO made no mention of Karzai or staying in Afghanistan.
Wars are over. Troops are coming home.

To echo dotster: Could I love My President more?

Our President is going to be kicking butt from now until 4 Nov, that is perfectly clear after yesterday and today.

Yep !! My goodness this was a CAMPAIGN speech for sure !!

Maybe people could phone their democratic elected official, and their democratic candidates, and ask them ONE thing: JUST WATCH THIS SPEECH !! THAT’S HOW you’re going to WIN !!

I’m all pumped !! Could the President , AGAIN, defy conventional wisdom and lead democrats to victory in 2014 ??

I’ve read somewhere that OFA is reconsidering its “non-partisan” statute. I understood the noble principles… but given how furiously the republicans are opposing change, I don’t think there’s any choice. OFA has to go back to partisan politics for a while…

Folks, I get the feeling that the President’s is more hopeful than he was a few weeks ago. He still had determination and courage, but I sensed he was becoming more modest in his goals. Today I feel he’s completely reenergized and he will try to reenergize all democrats. He will campaign like crazy !

WASHINGTON, DC – The Department of the Interior today announced that quarterly transfers of funds to the Cobell Education Scholarship Fund are set to begin this week with a first transfer of nearly $580,000 to the American Indian College Fund. The Scholarship Fund was authorized by the historic Cobell Settlement, approved in November 2012, to provide financial assistance through annual scholarships to American Indian and Alaska Native students wishing to pursue post-secondary education and training.

“The Scholarship Fund is an important tool to help students across Indian Country pursue higher education opportunities imperative to their success in the workplace and to the creation of the next generation of Indian leaders,” said Interior Solicitor Hilary Tompkins, who helped negotiate the Cobell Settlement on behalf of the Department. “While there was much debate in the settlement negotiations, there was no debate among the parties that we must do something to support Indian students in their aspirations and dreams.”
