    WASHINGTON (AP) — The Senate intelligence committee has voted to release parts of a classified report that harshly criticizes CIA terror interrogations after 9/11.

    The vote to declassify the 6,300-page review’s summary was 11-3. The “torture report” argues CIA methods were often cruel and ineffective. The agency disputes the findings.

    President Barack Obama supports releasing the report.

    Spokesman Jay Carney says the president will instruct intelligence agencies to conduct declassification work quickly.

    I wonder who voted no….

    “Yatsenyuk says evidence against Yanukovych “crystal clear”

    The top officials of Ukraine’s interim government held a news conference today at which blame for the large number of protester deaths by police sniper fire was a direct result of orders that came from President Viktor Yanukovych and his close advisors. Also today, Prime Minister said that the evidence against Yanukovych in the matter is “crystal clear”.

    SBU Chief Valentyn Nalyvaichenko said that an anti-terrorist operation announced by the top leadership in the former ruling regime results in mass killings of people during protests in and around Independence Square with the SBU places all the blame for what happened on then-President Viktor Yanukovych.

    “The planned anti-terrorist operation, and in fact the organization of mass killings of people, was directly led by former President Yanukovych,” Nalyvaichenko said at today’s press conference.

    Three members of the Berkut special police are reportedly custody of the 12 said to be involved. The SBU chief also reported that there is evidence that advice and the provision of supplies came from members of Russia’s FSB, a charge the FSB immediately hotly denied.”

    Thanks to National Rifle Association-backed legislation, commanding officers of the gunman responsible for the latest mass shooting at Fort Hood were barred by law from asking him about the privately owned handgun he used to carry out the shooting.

    In 2011, at the behest of the NRA, the must-pass National Defense Authorization Act of 2011 was amended to prohibit the Department of Defense from collecting or recording any information “relating to the otherwise lawful acquisition, possession, ownership, carrying, or other use of a privately owned firearm.”

    In practice, commanders could no longer ask soldiers about privately-owned firearms kept off base. In celebrating the law’s enactment, the NRA’s lobbying arm, the Institute for Legislative Action, said that the legislation was “developed by NRA-ILA and pro-Second Amendment members of Congress” and that the law would “protect the privacy and Second Amendment rights of gun-owning military personnel and their families.” It is impossible to know whether Lopez’s commander was in a position to ask him about privately owned guns, but the circumstances of the shooting do highlight the NRA’s nonsensical foray into interfering with the judgment of commanding officers.

    April 3, 2014 at 4:45 pm

    is this story true?

    if so, then may be we need to ask the networks why they :

    (a) give time to simpletons like Christie and refuse it to POTUS

    (b) devote time to announcements of declarations of wars but not one for health of ordinary Americans

    (c) whine when PBO ignores them and seeks out the non-traditional media;

    ( d) been routing for Obamacare to fail – highlighting only the fake stories or the expected hiccups experienced during implementation;

    such behavior demonstrates what we have said all along, the media is working hand-in-hand with the gop to undermine Obamacare

    • 91 hopefruit2
      April 3, 2014 at 4:51 pm

      Indeed, Linda. I just posted above, but your list is spot on! The media gave Christie 90+ minutes on two separate occasions to self-exonerate, and 60 minutes on a third occasion to announce that he was not going to be running for President in 2012. They chase Sarah Palin and her Tea bag rallies all over the country.

      Yet, they cannot devote 30-40 minutes for the President of the United States to announce a significant advancement in a law that stands to benefit millions of ordinary Americans?

          Well if it turns out to be false, then I will take back everything I just posted here. But I have absolutely no reason to think that it is false, just based on the way the media has been treating this President, and particularly their nasty, disgusting attitude towards Obamacare.

        • 94 globalcitizenlinda
          April 3, 2014 at 5:22 pm

    good morning todville!
    have you folks seen this article yet? i’m horrified and furious, of course, but also appreciate the depth of this conversation about rumsfeld and the upcoming film.

    ‘ As we edited, I became more and more fascinated by the smile. I became fascinated by his attempts to reimagine what he was doing—to convince himself of his own rectitude, his own correctness. Even the story about the fallen soldier becomes a story about him. Not a story about death, destruction, or failure, but a story of triumph over adversity, a story of persistence, a story of hope. It’s just one more story in which the disaster of that war is transformed into something more suitable to his way of thinking. I’m sure that he would be delighted if the war had never happened. Actually, wait, no, I wouldn’t put it that way. I think he would only be delighted if the war did happen. ‘

      This makes me so angry I want to spit nails. It’s beyond infuriating. But considering the source, it’s true to form. The media did nothing to educate the public about the ACA. Then they looked the other way while the GOP lied, distorted and made stuff up. Disgusting.

    Too early to know the real truth about this week’s Fort Hood shooter, or his background, if we ever learn, but there’s already conflicting “reports” and comments between CNN and MSNBC hosts and guests. Goldie Taylor on MSNBC says there must have been something in the shooter’s record that prevented him from advancement in the Army, since he had such a low rank at age 34. Barbara Starr of CNN explains that he had been in the Puerto Rico National Guard and then at age 30 decided to join the military full time, thus achieving only his current rank in 2014. The sad part is that (1) we don’t know if any of these “facts” being presented are true, yet; (2) if Goldie Taylor, former Marine, were questioned about giving such an answer without anything to back it up, she would say she was misunderstood or speaking in general, even though that’s not necessarily the way she presented it. Barbara Starr has the advantage of working within the news circus at the Pentagon, but who knows where she got the info, either.

    The military man who killed this week at Fort Hood was a person with a family, just as those who were shot and/or killed were. Speaking out of turn as an “expert” just because you are asked is shoddy (whether it’s Goldie Taylor or anyone else) and kind of character assassination, without even trying. Without even blinking. This is just my personal opinion, and why I may peek in at the “news,” just to try to find out what the freak is going on, but really don’t trust it. And that would make me feel helpless as a citizen, if I didn’t have other ways to get to the “truth” ~ but at least I know to keep looking.

    • 112 globalcitizenlinda
      April 3, 2014 at 5:47 pm

      I wish people would take time and let the facts come out – this is what PBO said and what I will stick to;

      the only other thing I can do in the mean time is to send my condolences to the families of the people who died and pray for the quick recovery of the injured

    • April 3, 2014 at 7:16 pm

      I believe that’s the media plan.
      It will fail.

      Happy people will be spreading the word.
      Happy insurance companies will be spreading the word.
      Smart politicians will be spreading the news.

      Plus I am sure if there is a way for the Administration to get around the media roadblock that way will be found.

      Sickening that we even are having this conversation.

      Oh, like everything else about PBO, the Obama-Coalition will find a way to make it stay in the news;

      heck we intend to mobilize voters around Obamacare and denial of Medicaid Expansion;

      in this new day, MSM is not the gate-keeper of information, we all collectively are contributors to what gets out there

  40. April 3, 2014 at 5:40 pm

    Howdy all you O’s! Another great getting up day in TODdy Town!!!

    So I’m not much of a twitterer, but it seems to me that the MSM denying air time to the CIC, leader of the free world, President to all Americans reeks of a twitter brigade effort. Surely there’s a way to media bomb, twit en masse, fb the stations, etc.

    So how does one get something like that going. There are at least 7 million folks who should be more than willing to participate. After the last election, there are at least 12 million voting age consumers of products offered for sale by MSM sponsored industries.

    So how do we do a call to action? There’s gotta be a hashtag out there just waiting to be used for just this type of effort.

    • 123 jacquelineoboomer
      April 3, 2014 at 5:55 pm

      Was wondering a similar thing, cookemom. Maybe a start would be to call out the prime time hosts who got their shows through when their networks were blocking the President’s message at the same hour … ask them what part they played. (Just my going-in thought, since they’re all paid by their network bosses, of course. But their individual ratings are important to them, at least.)

      I must admit I’m too angry right now to think clearly about this!

      See bobfr tweet in comment #109. I would encourage adding the #clickoff hashtag bobfr once introduced. If the networks claim giving primetime to PBO because of losing profit, imagine what profit loss will look like if #clickoff goes viral, and people really DO #clickoff? It. Will. Hurt.

    They will continue to do everything that they can (MSM) to try to pull this president down; however, we will stand in every crack on the road in this journey with him to keep him from falling. He is a good and decent man, otherwise these shit heads would have been in shitland a long time ago.

    Keep a strong drink next to you TODers and a strong word of encouragement. This crap is just reaching its crescendo in this nasty song. But keep the faith in who will be there for you all the way, President Barack H. Obama.

    Excuse my language, Chips and my beautiful TOD family. I am just mad as hell tonight about a lot of the shit centered around our President. But trust me, he will weather it all. I know that for a fact. As Bobfr often reminds us: #TrustBarack. HZ
