A 97-year-old man, who is among India’s oldest voters, says he is getting ready to cast his ballot for a 16th time in a general election.

Shyam Saran Negi is a retired teacher in northern Himachal Pradesh state.

He has voted in every single election since 1951-52 – when India held its first general election after gaining independence from British rule.

For those who may not recall those late August days in 2012, the Republican Party arrived in Tampa dedicated to creating a seamless launch for the national presidential campaign of its standard bearer, Governor Mitt Romney, and to do all it could to insure at least the appearance of a united party as it moved toward the November election.

To make that happen, Chairman Reince Priebus—along with a number of national committee members on the Mitt Romney bandwagon—made the determination that anyone or anything associated with libertarian Ron Paul was bad news for the GOP’s chances and, as such, were to be avoided at all costs.

To meet that goal, Paul was denied an opportunity to speak at the convention unless he promised to allow the RNC to edit his speech.

Led by Romney loyalist and pitbull GOP lawyer Ben Ginsberg, the RNC made changes in the rules that would not only insure an orderly convention for the front-runner in 2012 but would make it extremely difficult—if not completely impossible—for an intra-party challenge to be mounted against a President Romney in 2016.

Apparently, it never occurred to the majority of the Rules Committee that there might not be a President Romney in 2016 to protect.

Ironic, AMK, because no matter what they tried to do, the convention was a dud and their candidate about as inspiring as flat ginger ale.

You should read the whole article to see how incompetent the gop is with its shoot from the hips answer to everything. Amazing how nearly half the americans think they should run the country.

Absolutely! They do things for the short term “fix” think it’s good and problem solved:)….alas, they haven’t managed to think past their greedy little brains and are left with an even BIGGER problem. Fucking clown car of incompetence….and arrogance in this case.

I actually hope that this all come to fruition just like Rick Unger thinks it will….in plain sight for all to see the absolute disingenuous of this party…SOMEONE will have to explain to the people just WHY this stupidness side show is taking place during this nomination process! Put it out there for everyone to see!

Good morning all. Yesterday was an epic battle to get some kind of working devices and decent internet connection back in our house. Drove out to Comcast to get a working, updated modem. Then, since my laptop is shot, we had to resurrect an arthritic CPU that I haven’t used in years and required hours of updates to get going. Husband’s laptop went on the fritz yesterday (cosmic timing) and that goes to the shop today. Meantime, my notebook was acting skittish and couldn’t keep to a page long enough for me to read it. We have a little IPAD, but I can’t master that tiny keyboard without creating jibberish. As one of the world’s most technology challenged people, I was very frustrated by it all. Still, it’s a new day, the old CPU is doing its job and life goes on. Have a great day.

      • April 8, 2014 at 9:09 am

and even if it had been true…which it wasn’t…it is has always been implied….there are many ways to call him “boy” without using the words….and we blk folks know all of them…

          April 8, 2014 at 9:42 am

Exactly. There are a million and one ways in which our President has been called “boy” without the word being ever uttered. For example, the constant scrutiny of his vacations and how much taxpayer money is being spent whenever he and his family travel – that was NEVER an issue for ANY other President, Democrat or Republican.

    • April 8, 2014 at 10:09 am

The Chait piece was horribly “researched” and by that I mean that the whole thing was BS.

For those waiting to hear updates on my confused robin guy, trying to mate with his reflection on my window yesterday——no one??? 🙂 ——well, anyhoo——I am happy to report that he did manage to find a real live robin gal this a.m.——I watched the courtship and ummm, the finale, happen in real time in my backyard just now. I felt a little like a voyeur, like I was watching bird porn, but knew you would all want to know how it turned out, so I watched. 🙂 It looked like he liked her more than she liked him because she kept flying away——maybe playing hard to get—– but he pursued with determination, and he appeared to be successful—–ka-boom! True love! May they live happily ever after. The end.

Philippine top court defies church to back birth control

The Supreme Court in the Philippines has approved a birth control law, in a defeat for the Catholic Church.

The law requires government health centres to distribute free condoms and contraceptive pills.

The court had deferred implementation after the law’s passage in December 2012 after church groups questioned its constitutionality.

Supporters of the law cheered as the court found that most of the provisions were constitutional.

The government of President Benigno Aquino defied years of church pressure by passing the bill.

It says the law will help the poor, who often cannot afford birth control, and combat the country’s high rates of maternal mortality.

The provisions will make virtually all forms of contraception freely available at public health clinics.

This guy is deluded. Who does he refer to by “center-left” and “center?” The privileged (mostly white) Limousine Liberals like himself? And that’s the most important metric he uses to assess the quality and veracity of his bullshit article? Whether your media friends like it (or not)?

Magnificent, NW. You gave it to that self-satisfied Chait right in the solar plexus. I hope it hurts for days. He’s typical of a lot of know-it-all leftists who think their privilege gives them them insights into things they know nothing about. One reason the idiot didn’t get a response from the right wing is that they know he’s not important enough to waste time on. And frankly, ask any random 1000 people if they know who Jonathan Chait is and they’d give you a blank stare. And wow, NW, I would want you on my side in any argument. You are a fierce fighter. Brava!!!!

Jonathan Chait and his article is full of alot of B.S. He didn’t ask what black people think cause he wasn’t looking for the truth, and he knows exactly what most black people think is behind the disrespect POTUS, and his family have gotten since they have been in that White House. You just don’t see hate with these people, when it comes to Obama you see crazy ugly make no sense hatred.

    From Greg Sargent this morning:

AND HOUSE GOP WON’T ACT ON UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE: Last night the Senate passed its UI extension, but House Republicans don’t plan to act on it, and Roll Call gets to the heart of the matter:
While a band of House moderates have written to leaders asking them to consider the issue promptly — either with the Senate’s bill or an alternative — Speaker John A. Boehner has been clear that the Senate measure fails to meet his tests of creating jobs and being fiscally responsible. The Ohio Republican hasn’t put forward an alternative of his own.
Only seven House Republicans has signed a letter urging a UI extension, Roll Call notes, another sign of how many are cossetted away in safe districts, where they don’t have to worry about the political repercussions of abandoning the long-term jobless.

What a useless, spineless POS Boner is.

My brain cannot comprehend how these people are supposed to survive? What do they eat? Where do they live?

And the GOP wonders why people turn to crime? How else do you feed your family when you have an income of $0?

    GOP logic

The man who ran on his family values and became a member of congress is going to run for re-election – despite having an out of marriage relationship with an employee. He has asked for forgiveness.

The woman involved – has her name and address plastered all over the internet – and has been fired from her job.

The woman ALWAYS pays the price.

I am just this morning catching up on the Jonathan Chait article. 😯 🙄 😦

The anger that stirs in me is palatable. My first inclination was to respond to this ridiculous article but 140 characters simply won’t do. So instead I am going to request that Jonathan Capehart or Eugene Robinson respond to this article with truth.

someone please ask Mr. Chait if PBO’s supporters are also just imagining the huge increase in threats directed at POTUS and huge growth in hate-groups – as documented by the Southern Poverty Law Center and other institutions.

And just for the NOTATION by Chait, himself that after 3 yrs things will be back to NORMAL ……..in itself impeaches Chait’s whole diatribe.

Since 1779, US has had 43/44 presidents. Only one is of a different pigmentation. Instead of calling out the racists and those race-cringe-challenged wicked idiots, Chaits…….probably including himself amongst them, has chosen to write a 10K page piece to welcome his fellow members who are severely uncomfortable that a President Barack Hussein Obama was elected in 2008…..beating HRC and later, John McCain and in 2012 beating the lying Bishop, Willard Mitterrand Romney with record votes cast in both respective elections.

Chait is using his clout to try and mainstream racism. Before 1968 racism was Obvious, Institutionalized and Overt. After 1968 per Atwater, with the Southern Strategy, racism morphed into Coded words. After Sen Obama won…….and before his win was about to become a reality, Birtherism was born and Today the blatant racism is ignored and the pretense and now that charges are Reverse racism, calling those who object; race hustlers, and denying racism while using racist terms are what the first African American president is experiencing.

It is always darkest before the dawn. Pres Obama is not going to stop racism. But pres Obama has made it possible for every THINKING Human Being in US and outside US are now able to see…..struggling…..but unconsciously are able to see what racism is all about. The next POTUS who is not Male or White will NOT ever face this type of blatant racism or sexism.

Pres Obama has no baggage as Clinton. Clinton gave them cause. Pres Obama’s only crime in Chait’s and may of his fellow closeted/open racists is that they have issue with pres Obama’s pigmentation.
