      Good Morning AMK.

It is amazing how we have become so dependent on — slaves to — our smartphones. Makes me wonder how we ever survived without them.

Do we need them because the world has become so complex, or is the world more complex because of them?

    G’morning Chips & TOD! Congrats COS on #1 🙂

I see that the NY Times is out this morning with the “Sebellius resigns after troubled ACA rollout” narrative. Something tells me the media is going to be in for a shock later this morning….

      Good Morning Hopefruit!

The MSM has been programmed to be attracted to any semblance of negativity — especially if it can be associated with President Obama — and run with it…no independent thought or rationalization. Their robotic actions (or reactions) lacks emotion, morality, and integrity which is why it is constantly coming back to bite them.

My local rag carried Julie Pace from the AP still bleating about the troubled rollout and Kathleen Sebelius not being President with POTUS and VPOTUS when the announcement was made about > 7 million enrollment. They’re STILL pretending it hasn’t/won’t work!

I’m 2000km or more to the south – so may get some rain but little else. The TV news is having a sad because the intensity dropped from 5 to 4 before it crossed the coast and is now at category 3 – which is still vicious for those nearby – but not the disaster the media wanted. Everyone seems to have been well prepared.

Not that I’ve seen – I’m sure he wants to interview the PM about that airplane – the latter is running around China – in theory on a trade mission – in practise all anyone wants to ask him is about the plane.

Have you seen the Qld Premier? He is Aussie Gov Christie (for bully and RW politics) but is the height and width of a jockey. Little bullying man. He is unlikely to hold his seat next election & is looking to throw out someone in his party with a safe seat – we hope he is not successful. He has been pontificating all over TV for 24 hours about the cyclone – will be disappointed that the “flyover” will not be wanted or needed.

I should have added – thank you for asking – when I first came to Qld we used to get 3-4 cyclones every summer which brought lots of rain & wind but did little damage – now we seem to get a vicious one every 2 years (in any season) – my main suffering will no doubt be bananas selling at $10 kg – which they did after the last cyclone in the north.

The US Congress has sent a bill to the president that would bar Iran’s pick for ambassador to the UN from entering the country.
The House of Representatives passed the measure unanimously two days after the Senate approved it.

Hamid Aboutalebi was a part of the Muslim student group that seized the US embassy in Tehran in 1979.

The White House has told Iran Mr Aboutalebi was “not viable” but has not taken a position on the bill.

Mr Aboutalebi, who previously served as Iran’s ambassador to Belgium, the European Union, Italy and Australia, told Iranian media his participation in the hostage crisis began only after the initial seizure of the embassy, and primarily involved translation.

Senator Ted Cruz, the Texas Republican who introduced the legislation in the US Senate, urged Mr Obama to sign the bill.

“We, as a country, can send an unequivocal message to rogue nations like Iran that the United States will not tolerate this kind of provocative and hostile behaviour,” Mr Cruz said.

The bill’s sponsor in the House, Republican Doug Lamborn, said, “Terrorists, from Iran or elsewhere, should not be allowed to walk the streets of Manhattan with diplomatic immunity.”

Morning all. Got caught up on last night’s thread and missed the door opening. Loved the Koch Bros video Bob posted on the last thread–especially the last line about the brothers having a bigger boss and showing a voting booth with the words “and that boss works here.” If only people could see voting as power and stop being intimidated by the process. People offer lots of excuses about their vote not being important, not having the time, or not ‘knowing enough,’ but a big part of it is intimidation. They’re scared of presenting themselves and having to figure out the ‘how’ of the electronic voting process and Republican election officials do everything they can to heighten the fear. Yet voters really are the ‘boss” if only they would understand that.

The MSM is quick to talk about the criticism directed at Sec Sebellius during the healthcare.gov roll-out, but are silent in giving her any credit for the ultimate success of the ACA.

      April 11, 2014 at 10:09 am

We have to acknowledge that the White House had to “step in” and hired an “outside team” to correct the problems of the website.

However, I hope Kathleen Sebelius will be recognized for all the nitty-gritty work she’s done behind the radar to make the law work. Promotion of the law on the ground, hiring of navigators, vigilance over insurer practices. The ACA is more, much more than a website, despite what the MSM seems to think.

I’m pretty sick of this emphasis on the october roll-out. Now that the initial goals have been SURPASSED, the initial problems are IRRELEVANT. In the end, it didn’t make a difference !! If the problematic roll-out goes down in history, it will only be as a little footnote.

The Obama administration is so competent and devoid of real scandals… so the media, who strives on negativity and drama, is reduced to creating negative narratives and recycling every news about “problems” for weeks and weeks.

I hope that Kathleen Sebelius will be there at the announcement of her replacement and if so, I know that President Obama will do his best to emphasize all the good work she has done.

Just a postscript to the post above. When we put out a brochure for Latinos equating voting with power, the Republicans in our area loudly objected to the idea of our telling Latinos that they had power. They themselves were threatened by the idea of an empowered and voting Latino community. Needless to say, we printed more brochures and distributed them more widely.

It’s it amusing, Dotster, how obvious their agenda is now. No attempt to hide or disguise it in any way. A few years ago while leaving a ballgame at Nat’s Stadium I had the honor to meet Sec. Sebelius. I learned from her that evening that she is a big baseball fan. She’s a lovely lady (quite petite). She took the time to greet and shake hands with those of us who knew who she was. This is when I first realized that cabinet members get a full secret service detail. They were guarded but allowed her to stand there and chat for a few minutes with us. Apparently everyone in the line of succession to the Presidency has secret service detail and sec. of health & human services is 10th in line to the President.

I am grateful for her great service to the Nation and our President and am happy she is leaving on her terms. #7.5MillionandCounting

I give you all credit for letting us know whats going on, if I want to watch a specific segment, I can do that on You Tube or go back to their website stations. Thank you all for keeping us informed and having the stomach to watch this stuff. While I was in the holding stating to go in for surgery yesterday they turned the TV on for me and what pops up but FOX. Turned that off immediately. Then I turned it to MSNBC and who was on but Andrea Mitchell interviewing John Lewis. And was really surprised about his answer on Hillary, I was really disappointed. Did anyone else see that segment?

Told them that even if I’ve gone round the bend completely, FOX news must be banned in my vicinity. Husband understood. Kids laughed before they realized I was not kidding.

Good morning 🙂 decided to take the day off work today so that i can tend to some other work around her that needs tending….thought I’d share this. She is a GREAT Sec of HHS…and worked so hard to make sure that millions got the healthcare they deserved.

Sebelius didn’t have much D.C. experience, but had an impressive track record of working across the aisle as a Democratic governor in a red state.
And while the united GOP opposition to health legislation eventually overwhelmed any goodwill Sebelius had built up within the Republican party and the rocky rollout of Obamacare has come to dominate the discussion of her tenure as secretary, that bipartisan quality proved essential to the implementation of the law. Sebelius leaves the office having enrolled some 10 million people in health care coverage. This was only possible because she convinced numerous Republican lawmakers in bright red states to extend health care coverage to the poorest Americans. No one is talking about it, but it is her biggest and most impressive achievement as secretary.

In the aftermath of the Supreme Court’s 2012 decision invalidating Obamacare’s compulsory Medicaid expansion, most Republican-controlled states refused to extend health care coverage to residents below 133 percent of the poverty line. But Sebelius traveled the country, urging Republican governors to reconsider. As of today, eight GOP-controlled states have approved expansion — in no small part because of the flexibility Sebelius and her team provided.

      April 11, 2014 at 9:09 am

DF, you will NEVER hear this side of the Sebelius story in the US media–they can never, ever give anyone in the administration credit for a job well done. But millions of human beings will receive health care in those red states and lives will be saved because of her. I’m willing to bet that matters to her a whole lot more than nasty comments from nasty minded people in the media.

        April 11, 2014 at 9:28 am

Agreed:) Well, unlike so many others in Washington, she actually HAS a legacy to be proud of and can look at herself in the mirror every single day and know she did a great job during her time in office. She truly earned her paycheck on behalf of the American people! She should be proud, and the MSM and the obstructionist takers in Washington will get their due sooner or later…what goes around, comes around. Always does. She did what did what so many others REFUSE to do, and that it work across the aisle to make life more fair for everyday Americans. Nothing but praise from me…and I’ll bet those 7.5 million others:) and counting……

Paul Krugman has article # 6 praising the ACA today, which stands in stark contrast to his newspaper, the NYTimes which has as its frontpage headline “Sebelius Resigns After Troubles over Health Site.”

First the Times headline is a lie—-Sebelius resigns after 7 Million paid signups and 7.5 heading to 8 million enrollments—is more like it.
Second–Krugmans relentless truth telling might be jepordizing his place at the Times, I worry.
Professor K. is the only reliable honest voice the Times has left.

PK’s title today is “Health Care Nightmares” sarcastic—subtitled “Obamacare is doing fine. America isn’t.” The conclusion is chilling. The real Obamacare nightmare is the ugliness of spirit and spite that the ACA has unleashed.
    Well worth a read.

Chef/owner Ryan Hildebrand first became aware that Obama was considering dining at Triniti on Tuesday. “They came in yesterday and scouted it out,” Hildebrand tells CultureMap. “They really didn’t want to tell us who it was.

“When I found out, I was honored. Personal politics aside, she’s a classy, amazing lady who could go anywhere she wants to go. I was honored she chose to go to Triniti.”

    What Republicans are saying…

Here’s Eric Cantor: “I thank Secretary Sebelius for her service. She had an impossible task: nobody can make Obamacare work.”
Here’s Chuck Grassley: “Anybody put in charge of Obamacare would be set up to fail.”
Here’s Mitch McConnell: “Sebelius may be gone, but the problems with this law and the impact it’s having on our constituents aren’t. Obamacare has to go too.” As always, with McConnell, the law’s beneficiaries simply don’t exist.

Pay NO ATTENTION to those millions of people that just got affordable healthcare…many for the first time!!
