Man, it’s getting kind of hard to keep up with all this new spelling! At the rate you and Amk are going I’ll pretty soon lose my vaunted reputation as a spellster. 😉 Nowadays I find myself actually thinking ‘eggsacklee’ BEFORE thinking the real thing!

Grrrrrr! Just realized that middle word was not a version of ‘woof! woof!’

DannyO, I hate to be the one disillusioning you, but /whisper/ ‘Your mom is not always a good influence/role model.. Okay? Trust me on this.’

Morning, hope everyone has a good week. If you celebrate Easter or Passover and you’re getting together with family and friends, have a glorious time. Our son called to say he’s flying home from California for my big birthday at the end of the month and I’m over the moon about it. Best –present–ever!!! It’s still nine days away and I’m running around cleaning and planning special treats and meals. This is better than Christmas when he couldn’t make it home due to work. The prodigal son is going to be feted, although no calves will be harmed in the process.

Good Morning, Jackie! Anticipation is such a good thing – you’ll be in birthday mode from now till the day, and having lots of fun – enjoy every moment!

Thanks, VC. You got it right about anticipation–remember when we all used to feel that way as kids when a birthday was coming (and we actually longed to be older) or Christmas or even the Easter bunny, who I had a lot of faith in when I was five. Forgot what that felt like until I got the call. Have a great, great day, VC.

Goodness. I was reading it as “abs”, the things I haven’t seen on my stomach area in YEARS.
I felt like a dork scratching my head and thinking, I don’t get it

I finally realized ABS = Automatic Brake System.

    GOP: heartless. Murderers.

My good friend’s brother is 58 years old. He’s a little ‘off’ – don’t even know what you’d call it these days. He functions but at reduced capacity. His parents protected him his entire life. He worked for his dad, repairing motorcycles. The parents are now dead. The home is paid for and his siblings pick up the real estate taxes for the home in FL. He earns $8,000/year mowing lawns at a local school. He manages on what he earns because he doesn’t want or need much.

My friend tried to get him health insurance through ACA. “Not eligbile for subsidies” because he earns too little money. But without the Medicaid expansion in FL, he is not eligible for any health insurance.

GOP and the Roberts Court that allowed ‘opting’ out of Medicaid expansion have created this heartless, killing situation. It makes no sense that someone earning a little over the poverty line can be subsidized as to afford health insurance, and someone making $8,000/year is ineligible for any help at all. At his age, the rates are the highest for any insurance since age and tobacco use are the only qualifiers now allowed. If he were to take the lowest available plan, what he earns would not cover the premiums.

My friend in NH was in the same situation. NH is finally expanding Medicaid, but not in time for the lifesaving surgery he is having tomorrow to remove a mass from his kidney.

GOP CREATED THIS. How DARE they call ACA an ‘abomination’ when the abomination is the GOP.

All because of politics. These Republican are evil heartless men and women.

        April 14, 2014 at 8:49 am

The way they hate on poor people is shameful. And alot of them run around talking about being a christian.

          April 14, 2014 at 8:55 am

Talk is all it is, because all the Republicans care about is the rich. People like us are that 47% free loaders Mitt Romney talked of with such distaste.

    • April 14, 2014 at 8:56 am

I am so sorry…57…i pray for some relief for you and your family….your story and others like yours have to be told….we have to shift our battle to getting states to take the Medicaid expansion….PA is another state that has not accepted Medicaid expansion….

      Lives are on the line….

PF, we have until 2017 to do it, which is why it’s so vitally important to replace Corbett and get as many Dems as possible into the state senate and assembly. So much is at stake and so few people understand that this is not just another election. It’s a very, very big deal as we all know.

    • 43 jackiegrumbacher
      April 14, 2014 at 9:06 am

57, this is heartbreaking. I’m hoping that Charlie Crist wins in Florida in November and reverses this atrocity. The right wing justices led by Roberts are out to undermine this country and deepen poverty and despair. It’s why we must keep electing Democratic presidents and senators. One day, one of these wingers will retire under a Dem president and Dem Senate and we’ll begin the long, hard road back to justice. If your friend’s brother could qualified as disabled, couldn’t he be eligible for disability Social Security that includes Medicaid? He would have to be evaluated by an MD, but I’ll bet it’s possible.

      • 44 57andfemale
        April 14, 2014 at 2:04 pm

It will take more than Crist winning. One of the fig leaves Skelator hid behind was that the legislature wouldn’t let him expand Medicaid. People have to start realizing that absolutely every little election matters, no matter how small the municipality.

You may be recall I wrote last fall about my friend who won one of the seats on his minuscule county board in rural PA. But he’s making a difference concerning infrastructure, environment, etc. You need ‘progressives’ who have lived in these small towns and who know how to communicate with their neighbors. Remember, the GOP started small, one little election, one little school board at a time. Dem’s need to do exactly that. Be patient and keep working and never wavering……

A doctor poster at DKos would blame Obama.
Anyone else see that “Opal” diary?

57, I’m so sorry about your friend. It’s not fair at all. I hope there is SOME remedy for him soon.

I haven’t gotten into it over at dKos in ages, but I did with that diary. I flat out said it sounded like a ‘troll’ to me. The newest version of “I’m a small business owner and I listen to both sides” troll that calls in to progressive radio is the now the “doctor in……”

Tamron Hall’s real thought provoking question on Today——“Which celebrity would you want to crash your party?”
    Wow——–no wonder….
(and she insinuated we could include any of the Today Show staff as that preferred ‘celebrity’ when we leap to respond on twitter)

I can’t believe ABC has hired Laura Ingraham. At the very least she is the very definition of a b-word. But what she is really is a hate peddler, dealing in constant inflammatory speech, stirring up the bigots, a divisive and damaging influence. What was ABC’s purpose in hiring her?

    • 55 jackiegrumbacher
      April 14, 2014 at 9:23 am

Dotster, maybe ABC has a new policy to consciously reduce its audience and turn away every one under 50 as well as nonwhites over 60. If that’s what they are attempting to do–reduce audience and become increasingly unwatchable and irrelevant–they have a good chance to succeed.

Thanks for this, Desertflower. It was easy if one got access to credible news and paid attention instead of being blinded by Obama Derangement Syndrome. It also showed how network news and CNN are misinforming viewers and how much damage they did with their breathless coverage of birthers by giving legitimacy to those racist nut jobs. The state of some media in this country is abysmal.

The questions some respondents missed was quite puzzling.

Anyhooo….take the quiz, TOD and if any of you miss a lot of questions, I will be ashamed of you and will point at you all day. 🙂
