Morning super early birds. The president left Washington in mid-afternoon EST and it is having a press conference in Poland at virtually dawn, EST. How does he do that? How is he coherent?

    • June 3, 2014 at 6:47 am

Morning Jackie! I have absolutely no clue how he does it, he’s remarkable!

Amateur artist that I am, I have painted a couple portraits of PBO. I used them for the postcard campaigns. When drawing or painting a portrait one becomes very aware of facial details. I notice changes from those I studied closely upon making the portraits. PBO’s eyes show when he is stressed or tired. When I see more of his eyelids than usual I can tell there is a change.

Wow – a US question about the President’s trip!! Bloomberg news – but part gotcha – trying to get the President to say he will provide military assistance. Why do they think he would do this.

    • June 3, 2014 at 7:09 am

Their lack of basic manners towards their host country – and continent – is something else, every single time they completely ignore the purpose of the trip and spew out attempted domestic gotcha questions. I wish the rats would just stay at home.

They’re the ultimate “ugly Americans,” Chips–self-absorbed, pompous and totally disrespectful of other people and cultures. They’re like the tourists in wrinkled shorts and too-tight tees who complain about ‘foreigners’ while they traveling (in noisy groups) to other countries, desperately looking for a McDonald’s.

President Barack Obama has announced plans for a $1bn (£600m) fund to increase US military deployments to Europe, during a visit to Poland.

Mr Obama, who will meet Nato leaders amid concerns over the Ukraine crisis, said the security of America’s European allies was “sacrosanct”.

In April, 150 US soldiers were sent to Poland for military exercises amid growing tensions with Moscow.

Mr Obama will also visit Belgium and France during his tour.

*You* forgot to remind me (when I said good night last night) that I had to sign in early this morning for PBO’s presser, so there I was disciplining myself by reading and lolling around BEFORE signing on! Sigh, I’m tempted to fire you from this role, really I am; however I’ve decided to give you another chance. 😀

As for 99ts /smh/ – I suppose you deliberately didn’t wake me up because *I* didn’t wake you for the goodbye waves!

Morning JackieG and Roberta! Your slates are clear with me. 😉 😉

I will not take the blame for those who oversleep 🙂 – I was truly impressed that Chips had worked out the time for the conference – fortunately our evening TV programs are seriously vacant on Tuesdays – so I was here to abuse the goons in the WHPC.

Forget blame….you didn’t even tap me on the shoulder. That’s what hurt. 😥 😦
Truth is when I signed off I wasn’t thinking Europe (only that PBO had waved to me) ;). I’ve restrained myself from signing on when I wake up in the night (which I always do 2 or 3 times) except when POTUS or FLOTUS are traveling. 🙄

Not sure why I stopped by – but I sure wasn’t expecting a new thread from Chips at that hour. I can translate to E coast US – but Europe – not so much. I used to be good on the UK times but they are slightly different to the continent (I think).

Good morning TOD, thank you Chips for the heads up on this presser- I was able to catch the last bit of it. I want to apologize to everyone here- last week when Gen Shinseki resigned I was quite upset and wrote here that for the first time I was disappointed in President Obama.. my disappointment was short lived after both Dudette and Nerdy walked me off the ledge. I hadn’t yet listened to POTUS’ presser about why he accepted Shinseki’s resignation. Again, I’m sorry. I do know better, I’ve trusted this man/ President unconditionally for years, but I was just so disappointed about Shinseki and furious at repubs/dems and the hateful media. I’m very proud of POTUS bringing home POW Bowe.. still disgusted with repubs/media and their continued BS. Anyway, just wanted to get that out.

      June 3, 2014 at 8:21 am

It’s all good, Sherijr. Don’t beat yourself up. 🙂

The VA issue and resulting consequences blindsided a lot of people. It was sad to see a true hero be spit upon by cowards (GOP and media) who have never known and will never know what it is to sacrifice everything in defense and love of one’s country.

      • 61 COS
        June 3, 2014 at 8:26 am

Hey NW And Sherji. I saw a chart re interest in the VA issue on Rachel’s show yesterday. It showed how the interest faded as soon as Sec. Shinseki resigned. It appears that the media and critics only wanted a pound of flesh and was not really interested in fixing the VA.

        • 62 sherijr
          June 3, 2014 at 8:28 am

of course not, the media & the repubs only use vets/soldiers, that is as far as their ‘concern’ has ever gone.

      • 63 sherijr
        June 3, 2014 at 8:27 am

thank you Nerdy, appreciate those words from you. I will never forgive the media nor trust them for all that they’ve done these several years to undermine this Presidency and further the rightwing.

        • 64 99ts
          June 3, 2014 at 8:46 am

You have millions agreeing with you sherijr. If I hadn’t been on TOD I would never have known just how much the media lies – about anything and everything.

          • 65 sherijr
            June 3, 2014 at 8:51 am

I first realized it back during the debates between Hillary & POTUS and literally stopped watching any tv/media back in 2007. The only way I know anything about the media anymore is from here at TOD and the headlines on msn.com – which are all skewed against President Obama.. so I don’t read their BS either. I do not miss tv at all 🙂

    • 66 arapaho415
      June 3, 2014 at 8:39 am

I’m still behind in my TOD lurking, and didn’t see your comment about Shinseki (or much of anything else last week 😦 ).

Over the weekend, @knx1070, the CBS all-news radio affiliate in Los Angeles aired interviews with local veterans at the VA hospital here. Every vet interviewed had only praise for the VA (spanning from Vietnam to Iraq/Afghanistan wars), no complaints about wait times, etc.

This in the 2nd largest US city.

The media fails to mention that the VA problems may be due to local (i.e., Arizona) management and turn a blind eye to the fact that these vets are suffering due to the abomindable wars started by Bush-Cheney with no consideration for the fate of the soldiers engaged in fighting. The MSM reached back further (to include poor treatment during the Bush Adm.) to try to make it sound that the problems were even worse during the Obama Adm.

Even worse in my view is that the MSM allow the likes of McCain and other GOPers to insist that wounded vets don’t have the right to the best, most dedicated doctors — military doctors — who are part of the military and have the training and first-hand knowledge of the psychological and physical challenges unique to war. Requiring vets to seek out the same level of service from civilian doctors only adds another burden to folks who need support, not more obstacles.

      The MSM infuriates me.

      • 67 sherijr
        June 3, 2014 at 8:48 am

I use the VA for all my healthcare and as I stated here last week- I have been more than satisfied.. yes appointments could be faster.. but we’ve had two ongoing wars started by those same repubs crying about the VA now. And thus far all of the doctors/ nurses and other personnel I’ve dealt with at 3 different VAs in 2 states has been exceptional. So you are right, the media/repubs are not 🙂 When they start putting the money into the VA the way they scream about it (under this President) then I’ll believe they actually care about vets. But that won’t happen without a majority dem congress.

The best pushback IMHO, which I haven’t heard from the media (but I haven’t watched MSNBC recently, so don’t know if they’ve done so) is that prisoners are exchanged when a war is over.

Does the MSM have such a short memory (or do they want their audience to forget) that only last week President Obama announced the end to the Afghanistan war?

See above response to Sherijr on VA conditions in Los Angeles.

President Obama to Polish and American soldiers – “Always together”

  25. June 3, 2014 at 8:51 am

Rev. Al has been doing a great job finding different angles to point out the absurdity of the GOP going against the First Lady’s healthy food in schools program.

Did find out something interesting from Rev. Al’s segment yesterday. I had thought that the standards and everything they’ve been working on are already law. Facts are, the law gets re-authorized in 2015.

I did appreciate Rev. Al’s guest comparing this fight to the fight from the GOP about Obamacare. Love pointing out the parallel.
I also loved the example of comparing the plates. How ketchup was qualified as a ‘vegetable’- yes, thank you Ronald Reagan.
That this is about Big Food.

Celeb chef Tom Colicchio bashes GOP food plan
Republicans in the House have been pushing to roll back some of the healthy lunch standards that First Lady Michelle Obama has championed. Celebrity chef Tom Colicchio explains why he’s speaking out against those efforts, and what makes a balanced meal for American kids.
