David Gregory just told Chgo NBC that Boehner’s plan to sue PBO was because PBO “is not implementing laws that Congress passes”. What? What laws that Congress passed are not being implemented by PBO???

      June 29, 2014 at 8:31 am

Oh, well then, if David Gregory is on the case then this suit must be taken seriously.

    • June 29, 2014 at 9:14 am

To do that Boehner would have to actually bring something to the floor and pass it. No surprise that Republican shill Gregory is spouting GOP talking points. Don’t get worked up over it.

    • June 29, 2014 at 9:19 am

Dudette posted this on the last thread (so it looks like #SoSueMe hashtag was coined by none other than PBO, LOL).

Great clip, except at the end where it cut away to Andrea “sourpuss” Mitchell and David “remind-again-why-I-make-big-bucks” Gregory, at which point I wanted to gag.

The photo above is dated 2009, President Obama has been in this fight since at lest 2009. I don’t think no other President has put his name to the issues facing for gay brothers and sisters so early in their presidency. If I’m wrong please correct me.

9 in 10 hopefruit… Why are Americans so stupid?

      • 33 Linda
        June 29, 2014 at 9:15 am

Which party controls Congress? Only 4 in 10 Americans know

Americans may be disgusted with Congress, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they know who’s in charge in Washington.

Just 4 in 10 Americans can correctly say Republicans control the U.S. House of Representatives and Democrats do the same in the U.S. Senate, according to the Pew Research Center’s new comprehensive political typology. The study sorts voters in groups — from Solid Liberals on the left end of the spectrum to Steadfast Conservatives on the right.

About one-third of Americans can correctly identify the majority party in at least one chamber of Congress, while 28% don’t know who controls either the House or the Senate.

      • June 29, 2014 at 10:06 am

They’re not stupid. It’s the old “my incumbent is alright it’s just that your incumbent sucks.” All politics was and remains local.

          June 29, 2014 at 1:05 pm

So true….the American people loves THEIR representative and senator…they just hate other people’s.

        • 36 vcprezofan2
          June 29, 2014 at 1:14 pm

Quite true, DerbGuy. Or my incumbent is a ‘normal/average guy/one of us’, as in the case of Rob Ford in Toronto.

    • June 29, 2014 at 11:14 am

this happens because we have a cynical electorate…who believes that they their vote does not count…or that it does not make a difference…they have lost faith and hope….however as the President has shown…when we inspire our citizenry…and fill them with hope and convince that their vote does matter….the outcome is very different….This also happens because those incumbents bring out their folks to vote…if we bring out our folks to vote…the outcome would be different…

Worst Supreme Court in my lifetime

      • 41 jackiegrumbacher
        June 29, 2014 at 9:37 am

Another good reason, Linda, why we have to keep the Senate and regain the House. Supreme Court decisions can be overturned by other courts and by legislation if there is the will. When there is a SCOTUS that routinely works against the interest of the American people, then those decisions must eventually be reversed. Let’s keep the faith.

Morning! Last night’s “sosueme” party was the best therapy ever!! People here have been hurt, angry, frustrated and depressed by the disrespectful treatment of our president and we finally got to the point where we could see the absurdity. Republicans and the media have been TRYING to depress and demoralize us, so for us to laugh at them is the biggest spit in the eye imaginable and one they did not expect. So instead of letting ourselves be hurt, we have three courses ahead: 1) laugh at them; reach out every day to inform and register voters; and GOTV. Oh and if we can donate to Dem candidates along the way, that’s good, too. Going to a big fundraiser to Manen Trivedi later today, so donating comes big on today’s agenda. Have a good one.

    • June 29, 2014 at 9:24 am

      Good to see you, JackieG!

It’s been awhile since we’ve been here at the same time (my fault, entirely).

Could you give me an update on how the fireflies in PA are doing? Have fond memories of any place I’ve seen fireflies, and I’ve only seen them in eastern Tennessee and central Pennsylvania in August.

I got the sense that their peak was earlier in the summer, though.

BTW, has @CarolMaeWY been here recently? I want to get in touch with her, but my schedule didn’t allow me to be diligent in that effort.

      • 45 jackiegrumbacher
        June 29, 2014 at 9:32 am

Arapaho, good to see you, too. In our area, the fireflies get very active around the fourth of July. We can stand outside on our deck, which faces a meadow, and get our own firefly fireworks display in early July. As for CarolMaeWY, have you tried a direct message on twitter, or, Chips will have her e-mail. Haven’t seen her recently. Have a great day.

I have tried to DM CarolMaeWY and haven’t heard from her. Am worried too.

        • June 29, 2014 at 10:22 am

I am soooo jealous of your firefly display.

Your description reminds me of my experience in central PA — we were at a high school teacher’s home which overlooked the local football field, and it was just magical (and mesmerizing) to watch the fireflies from his porch.

Of course, this was in late August, so the fireflies were few and far between, which made their dancing appear to be in slow motion.

Hope to hear more about your firefly display — there’s been a lot of soccer discussion here recently (which completely eludes me, the only thing I know about soccer is that only goalies are permitted to use their hands), so hopefully TODville can supply some “glories of summer” descriptions.

MTM, do fireflies make it as far west as Montana?

CarolMaeWY, I know you’re under doctor’s orders to limit your computer time, but it would be great to hear from you! (Thanks for the update, MTM — I’ve missed a lot here at TOD for the past month, so wasn’t sure if I had missed some of her posts.)

    • June 29, 2014 at 9:58 am

I’m not hurt frustrated angry or depressed. I expected this the day he was sworn in. Not because I’m clairvoyant but because I know the history of this country too well. All that ugliness had to eventually be exposed. Fortunately it fell on a man with a spine made of ramrod. A lesse pperson would have been crushed by now.

The wonderful surprise to me is witnessing the greatest President of my lifetime emerge as one of the greatest Presidents of all time. In the face of unparalleled obstruction this man has made landmark accomplishments. And he’s not done.

Boehner filing a lawsuit (which probably won’t amount to much until PBO has left office) is the equivalent of waving the white flag. A strategy he should have saved until after the midterms has become a desperate cry for help in June. PBO has broken him.

And he ain’t done. Chuckle, snort, two giggles and a guffaw.

He is one of the few politicians of my lifetime – who has done – or attempted to do – what he said he would do. Some folks are really shocked when politicians legislate/govern as they said they would – because so few do.

The one who did the same in my world was brought down by a conservative opposition & a few misguided acts – but he accomplished 90% of his promises in just 3 years – including health care for all. President Obama has achieved so much despite all best efforts of the GOP – and as you say – he ain’t done yet.

      • June 29, 2014 at 10:36 am

You and ericfive are two people whom I always agree with here. It’s as if I wrote the post myself, if I had thought of it, LOL.

Dudette posted this last night. It must have been painful for Bobby Womack to see the way our President has been treated by the GOP, and enabled by our thoughtless media.

However, it was great to hear that Bobby’s mother was in the audience to see him accept this eternal honor.

I had no idea that Bobby Womack was “a guitar player for Sam Cooke,” one of my alltime favs. IMO, no one can beat Sam Cooke and Nat King Cole’s singing voices, phrasing, style, etc. (never understood why Frank Sinatra was so lionized, give me Sam or Nat from that era anytime.

GM Linda and TOD. So is she criticizing PBO’s middle class message and how he is meeting with working families? I only watch MHP when she is a guest on Rev Al’s show. Her opinions are different when she is talking to Rev. Al. She is a hypocrite.

I don’t know what her point was because I turned her off while she was saying something about ” Everyone does not have a Whole Foods Market in their neighborhood.

She is very judgmental of others.

MHP is VERY patronizing with this “Whole Foods” remark. And her arse should be called out for it. You don’t have to have a Whole Foods to have access to vegetables and nutritious food.

What is wrong with MHP? Do they listen?Barack Obama or Michelle Obama does not come from lots of money, they understand people like us because they’ve walk down that road. People act like they have been President and First Lady all their lives.

        “What’s wrong with MHP?”

Lil’ girl is singing for her supper. She wants her contract renewed at MSNBC, and if bossman orders her to be nasty towards PBO and spread lies about him, while groveling to jerks like Willard and his Republican allies, she will do whatever bossman says because she doesn’t want to lose that paycheck.

    • June 29, 2014 at 10:43 am

Agree with annieb — what is *wrong* with MHP?

Good Lord, dredging up a manufactured “controversy” from the 2008 campaign that was only a “controversy” because the media treated/hyped it that way.

Next she’ll be criticizing PBO for having said he’d been to “57 states” (when he obviously meant 47) after no sleep during the 2008 campaign. My favorite statement/video from that time was David Axelrod saying that he was beyond exhausted during that grueling campaign, and that after landing at their stop, Senator Obama looked at him and said something to the effect that Axelrod needed to get some rest, that he shouldn’t accompany him (Senator Obama) to whatever stop he was going to — that Axelrod should catch up on his sleep.

Can just imagine R-money saying that to one of his aides — not.

MHP is doing Drudge’s work for him

Was that round table with those 4 women supposed to be informative ?

It was more like a mean girls sorority gossip fest.
