Cindy, I’m so glad you decided to call 9-11 and a feeling better after your scare with heat stroke.

My thoughts and prayers for those that are affected by weather in their areas.

          Happy Thursday to you sjterrid!
Thank you for your kind words. The problem escalated because I “did not” call 911. I actually thought that it was a bug. The following day I was still ill, not as bad but not feeling well, so I had it checked out. That is when I found out what was going on. Today, I am feeling better, not 100% but much better; staying close to home this holiday weekend and drinking lots of water : )

          Thank you again.
Wishing you and your family a WONDERFUL, safe and blessed 4th of July weekend-ENJOY!!!

Big Eddie is all but dancing in the endzone tonight.
Great opening segment on the wonderful economic news.
His pudit was a Repub Bruce Bartlett I think his name is who chimed in in the praise for PBO and called the GOP liars and mocked their hideous always wrong predictions.
    How sweet this is!

        July 3, 2014 at 5:52 pm

Bruce Bartlett said he hates GWB. He wrote a great article back in 2009 telling what really went down with the Medicare Part D Bill.
        Jobs were threatened….lies were told.

The human capacity for self-delusion never ceases to amaze me, so it shouldn’t surprise me that so many Republicans seem to genuinely believe that they are the party of fiscal responsibility. Perhaps at one time they were, but those days are long gone.

This fact became blindingly obvious to me six years ago this month when a Republican president and a Republican Congress enacted the Medicare drug benefit, which former U.S. Comptroller General David Walker has called “the most fiscally irresponsible piece of legislation since the 1960s.”

        It is a short read.

“Great to hear that Ed is lucid today.” That is the key phrase Nena20409 and the key word is “today.”

He is so unpredictable that he makes me ill. One day he is promoting President Obama and the next he is chewing him up and spitting him out.

Just saw this great news—-all Chicago Public School students will get free breakfasts and lunches starting this fall——reimbursed by U.S. Dept. of Agriculture, expected to serve 72 million meals.

      July 3, 2014 at 5:40 pm

This is great news. When I think of Chicago schools the first thing I think about is Rahm’s efforts to close so many of them. This shows another side.
All in all, Dotster, what is your assessment of the Chi. schools?

      • 54 57andfemale
        July 3, 2014 at 5:41 pm

I am so disappointed in Rahm. I knew what he was, but I still expected better.

      • 55 dotster3
        July 3, 2014 at 5:58 pm

That’s a tough question, and I hesitate to wade in because I have no first hand knowledge—-just impressions from news stories. I lived there years ago but am outside the city now, all 3 of my daughters lived there also post college but all are now elsewhere because of marriage and jobs. There are some great public schools, the ones who are always in the news with high achieving grads and honors etc.—–and some not so great ones. Rahm has his fans and his detractors. My thinking on the school closings was that when you’re in charge you have to make some tough, unpopular decisions—and he closed some of those not so great schools—but I’m sure he was trying to improve education standards in the city, not make it worse. So the school closings were hugely unpopular with those affected——but after the initial uproar I haven’t heard much. I think kids adjusted and were likely pleased with the updated facilities at their new schools, improved teaching. That’s my impression anyway, others may have a completely different view.

Thank you for this helpful response, dotster.
At the same time, i see where you are coming from 57.
I like to get the thoughts of TOD residents on a city they live in. Best news source ever.

        • July 3, 2014 at 7:02 pm

I can’t wait to vote for ANYONE against Rahm. The sooner his term as Mayor ends, the better.

            July 3, 2014 at 7:27 pm

As I said, others with way more knowledge than I may have a completely different view. But I don’t hate Rahm. I don’t think he’s perfect, and there are valid criticisms. But it’s tough duty being the one who’s running the show—-unbelievable number of differing segments to try to please, and everyone’s a critic, as we have seen with President Obama. I feel he wants to “do good” for Chicago. We will see.

            • July 3, 2014 at 7:29 pm

It’s probably been there for months Dotster, but you know me, slow on the uptake –

“I love Barack Obama and my family – in that order (says my family).”

              Cracked me up 🙂

It could have been mr. dotster too as he is So Jealous of my affection for the prez. He keeps saying that he could beat him at golf—-like I’m supposed to be impressed with that. 🙂 And yes, it’s been there from the get-go. Where have you been?—-raising and chasing Danny and searching for hairbrushes? Baking? 🙂

There are very very few, if any, foreign critics of Barack Obama (c.f. GWB) – the media can ALWAYS find a way to attack something that is good – they really hate any good news related to PBO.

WASHINGTON — President Obama on Monday boasted that during his time in office the US budget deficit has been cut in half. In remarks commemorating the fifth anniversary of the onset of the financial crisis of 2008, Mr. Obama cited the deficit reduction as a sign of progress for an economy that’s still struggling toward full recovery.

“Our deficits are now falling at the fastest rate since the end of World War II. I want to repeat that. Our deficits are going down faster than anytime since before I was born,” said Obama.

      July 3, 2014 at 7:45 pm

And they just had to use the term “boasting” – yet again – turning a positive into a negative. PBO gives out facts – he neither boasts nor apologizes for the good that he does. I am truly aghast at the media today – not only in the US but throughout the world.

The Koch brothers had to pull an ad they were running against Rep. Pete Gallego (D-TX) after a television station refused to air it because it was dishonest. The Kochs responded by editing the ad to make it even more dishonest.

WASHINGTON (AP) — In an abrupt retreat, the House Ethics Committee said Thursday that it was dropping changes it had made in how lawmakers publicly report trips they take that are financed by interest groups.

The bipartisan panel said House members will have to continue filing brief information about privately financed trips in the public reports they file annually on their personal finances.

Just Tuesday, news organizations reported that the ethics committee would no longer require that information on those forms. That drew howls from open government advocates and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., though Republicans noted that Democrats on the ethics panel had signed off on the change.

I am sure Leader Pelosi had a few choice words for the Democrats that signed off. Only one was needed….

Happy 4th of July Eve my TOD Family. What a truly wonderful economic report for PBO, VP Biden, DEM Leaders, and the American people. I can feel and see the economy getting better.

I hope everyone will be safe from the hurricanes and bad weather as well as those in very hot areas. Cindy, thank you for bringing your scare here I know it will help our TOD family to remember to call 9/11 if they have your same symptoms. Yesterday our own dearest HZ was affected by the SoCal heat. ((((Love & Big Hugs to HZ)))). I hope you are resting but still able to lurk on such wonderful good news and support for PBO. Isn’t wonderful family that whenever the media dumps on our President he is greated with good news that those assholes have NO control over.

Love you all and please have a safe, happy, restful 4th of July. Happy Birthday to Malia, America, and any TOD family members born on the 4th.

“I can feel and see the economy getting better.”

This is so true, jojothecat! Yesterday I received a notice from the County of San Diego Assessor’s office telling me that my property taxes will go up 2% because the value of my home had gone up 26%, between January 1, 2013 and January 1, 2014. By way of contrast, in June of 2009, I received a letter, from the same Assessor’s office, lowering my property taxes because the value of my home had plummeted by more than 45%.

It Never Used to be that way. Is there any wonder that College Tuition is out of reach?

These are Public Universities. The same is true for Coaches in many State Universities. I remember in the 1970s and early 1980s, hardly any public Job paid more than the $250K a POTUS was paid.

    • 94 99ts
      July 3, 2014 at 7:54 pm

Our current government is trying to send our public universities down the same path – they are copying all the worst of the GOP from the US and thinking it is wonderful. We currently have a system where public universities have set fees for particular courses and all students have access to (at the minute) low interest loans – which only become payable when they are earning in excess of a certain amount. It still buries students in dept – but it is manageable. Under the proposed system each university can charge as it pleases!

    • July 3, 2014 at 9:26 pm

“It Never Used to be that way. Is there any wonder that College Tuition is out of reach?”

Sorry, Nena, but it has been that way for quite long time! If I am not mistaken, the President was making $200K in the 1970s and 1980s. And the Gov. of California in the 70s was making $49K.

It’s already the 4th July in my world & reminds me of the one time I celebrated same in the US – at Fort Belvoir about 40 years ago. Every time Knoller mentions golf at Fort Belvoir I tell myself – I have been there – just one step of separation from PBO 🙂
