The Leftovers has got to be the weirdest show I’ve seen to date and this is from the same HBO that aired True Detective (great show, has the weird factor but nothing on the weirdness of The Leftovers).

It’s a very curious show for sure.

    This is me, every scene.

NW, I felt just like this guy in this photo when I watched it. I decided to take this one off my dvr. I watched the entire show and still do not know what I was watching. The short summary on wiki says that it is a show which will concentrate on the people who were left instead of the folks who disappeared. Made no sense. 🙂

“Ukrainian Jewish Leader Josef Zissels in Toronto: The Truth About Ukraine”

          “TORONTO, Canada. May 2, 2014

UnknownJosef Zissels, a former Soviet political dissident, Vice-President of the World Jewish Congress, Chairman of the Vaad (Association of Jewish Organizations and Communities of Ukraine), Chairman of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress, Freedom Prize, and Order for Courage winner visited the Ukrainian Canadian Research and Documentation Centre (UCRDC) in Toronto, Canada to give a 3 hour interview for its Oral History Archive. He The Persecution of the Ukrainian Helsinki Groupwas interviewed by Iroida Wynnyckyj, UCRDC Archivist and Christina Isajiw, the former Head of the Human Rights Commission of the World Congress of Free Ukrainians. Isajiw had worked on behalf of Zissels while he was a political dissident in the 1980s and presented him with a book on dissidents that was used in the West to aid their release entitled, Persecution of the Ukrainian Helsinki Group, in which his photo and bio appear as a member of that group.

During the interview, Zissels was relaxed and open while answering questions and sharing insights that he has obviously thought long and deeply about. He is clearly someone who has truly found his own identity and place in the world and speaks from it with a quiet confidence. Approachable and sincere, reflective with a gentle sense of humor, he is clearly committed to the truth, and just as equally to Ukraine. Candid, profound, fair, he could easily have continued sharing stories and views for another three hours and those present would have happily listened longer. There is a kind of intelligent sincerity of honest thought in how he speaks which is deeply refreshing and quietly riveting to listen to in person.”

Worth reading all of it: http://maidantranslations.com/2014/07/06/ukrainian-jewish-leader-josef-zissels-in-toronto-the-truth-about-ukraine-2/

If you don’t have time, then his comments about NATO and the ‘bandits’ (aka #TzarVlad & gang) then do read this:

““First above all, the informational front, then the economic. And the position of NATO that is changing, today it was that the representative of the Secretary-General of NATO said that NATO already sees Russia not as an ally, not as a partner, but as an adversary. This is very important. NATO as an organization is created to protect democracy and Western civilization ought to clearly and transparently announce that it will protect democracy at any point on the global sphere. Because you can’t sacrifice democracy in some country that is not a member of NATO. Because if today they capture a country there, tomorrow they will come here. And this is easier to stop there than it is if they come here. And this is very important, and NATO is starting to understand it. NATO is not ready to fight, but it’s important for us to maintain this consequent position, that they are ready to protest up to armed confrontation. Because NATO and the West are a lot more powerful than Russia both on the economic plane and on the plane of war. Simply that audacity which is working now, with NATO laws and principles, only these give advantage. How can you compromise, or have to negotiate? You’re meeting in a dark alley with a bandit, who is pulling a weapon on you. How can you sit behind a negotiating table with him and say, ‘Ok, C’mon, we’ll negotiate, and possibly we’ll find some compromise.’ He wants to rob you! And if there is no police reach that can curtail him, or even apply weapons against him, all of your postmodernism, all of your vast civilized compromising, are worth nothing. Understand with whom you are dealing, you are dealing with bandits.””

Bobfr – you’re on a roll! How is your business venture coming along? I’m always amazed you make time to check in here so often and keep us so well informed along with the BTs.

    • July 6, 2014 at 10:54 pm

Thank you for asking, Judith. We are making solid progress, though the path is steep and many challenges remain.

The only reason I’m able to contribute the tad that I do is because of the information technology we are striving to make even more accessible and comprehensive. A true blessing is the existence of very large viewing surfaces and multi-tab browsers!!! I can have all kinds of stuff updating, all the time, and when I have a brief break of even 3 or 4 min, I can scan a bunch of stuff and post a link, tweet or comment and dash off – truly hit and run cybersocializing 🙂

DF posted this fascinating article on the previous thread, and it’s right up your alley, Dr. Bob, about a Seattle doctor who is crowdsourcing to help neurosurgeons identify cancerous regions in the brain.

        From the article:

“A scorpion-venom concoction that makes tumors glow sounds almost too outlandish to be true. In fact, Olson explains, that’s what troubled the big grant-making organizations when he came to them for funding. But when those organizations dismissed his ideas as too bizarre, Olson started accepting donations from individuals—particularly the families of current and former patients—quickly raising $5 million for his research. It was a bold and unprecedented tactic…

        snip /

Olson was battered by his first full year of caring for dying kids. Pent-up grief would overwhelm him at odd moments; he once turned into a blubbering mess upon discovering that the tomato plants in his front yard were afflicted with blight. ‘I can’t even take care of a plant!’ Olson thought as he kneeled in the dirt by his discolored tomatoes.”

It’s amazing how the little things can send us over the edge. By this I mean that if Dr. Olson weren’t confronting dying children and their families every day, he certainly would not have overreacted to his dying tomatoes.

This is the kind of breakthrough we need for all cancer surgeries.

And aren’t ashamed to do it.

            I’m glad we’re not them.

            • July 7, 2014 at 2:21 am

Delusional people, or people afflicted with perceptual distortion, are incapable of experiencing shame. For example: people who dropped out of college, like Karl Rove, Rush Limbaugh, and Glenn Beck, are absolutely convinced that they are way smarter than President Obama. The reason they think so is because they are “afflicted with perceptual distortion.” As far as they know, no Black person can be smarter than them because they are white.

Thanks for giving that explanation … it won’t change them, but when we understand there’s no hope for them, we can go on and WIN all of the political majorities in the country … and not stop until we do!

And if Republicans had stood up years ago when this was starting,(remember the Tea Party rallies) it wouldn’t be as bad as it is now. But Republicans every where remain silent, either because they agreed with the racism or they were just concern about these people votes. You have Republican politicians showing their racism too, so these people feel it just fine to do it also. It is a racists disgrace.

‘ Bloomberg has since started the new group, Everytown, merging the mayors coalition and Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America. Everytown’s goal is to create a grass-roots movement to pressure not only Congress but also state legislatures. It is using data-driven organizing techniques from Barack Obama’s 2008 and 2012 campaigns to expand its network of supporters, which now totals nearly 2 million.

“We’re going to be very, very data-driven, metrics-driven, making sure that we identify the people who care about this issue,” said Mitch Stewart, formerly the Obama campaign’s battleground-states director and now a political consultant advising Everytown. ‘

the future of politics– super-wealthy single-issue advocacy?

Oh my. Just stumbled into some bigot’s TL on Twitter … old hateful white guy was wearing a Navy shirt, which he probably bought at a flea market. Felt like taking him on, but why give attention to the bigot. Not tonight, anyway, too sleepy! Besides, they’ll all consume themselves and each other soon with their hatred.

Saying a prayer tonight for President Obama and his family ~ actually, it’ll be a prayer of thanks because I know they are all under heavenly protection. Goodnight, all.

    • July 7, 2014 at 2:52 am

Goodnight JOB! I am so glad you didn’t waste your energy and precious time on haters. I am slowly learning the importance of focusing my time and energy on positive things. Yes, haters who know better, like those in the mainstream media (MSM), deserve to be confronted. But there are so many brainwashed and ignorant right wingers, who regurgitate everything they hear on Fox, or on right wing talk radio. It’s these right wing brainwashed individuals who should be pitied for their ignorance and their inability to focus on advancing their own interests. Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck, WHPC, are all making obscene amounts of money under President Obama, despite the fact that they are constantly bashing him 24-7.

Excellent advice for all of us, nath. And, as you mentioned, we’re on a “bigger assignment” to refocus, focus, keep focused, and never de-focus until we get the job done – Ha!

Morning anyone up late or rising early. A break in the busy night is giving me a chance to catch up. The week in review was fabulous. Loved the way the graphics were put together. There are some pretty amazing people here.

    GM everyone…

I am sickened by so called freedom loving Americans baring their hatred to the refugees fleeing from Latin America….sicken at the hatred that first caused…3 Israeli boys to be kidnaped and murdered and then a Palestinian boy to be burned alive….reminds me of the night riders lynching and burning blk people….

sometimes one feels so helpless with all the mayhem around us

I’m going to ask the Republicans for the chapter and verse in the Bible were Jesus gives money to the rich,he tell the poor to suck it up, and ask Caesar’s birth certificate, just so I can read it.

    • July 7, 2014 at 6:45 am

      GM Annie….

I believe that this is NOT about faith….it is about power….and control…hatred……Religion has been used many times as a reason for hatred…brutality and …atrocities….I cannot forget a pic I saw long ago of a lynching by the klan…in which members held the bible in their hand…

    • July 7, 2014 at 6:52 am

You know I’m not satisfied with that Congressman who went on CNN Sunday morning blaming the Obama administration for the people from Central America crossing the border into this country. Rep. Henry Cuellar is his name I believe. Place the blame were it belong, John Boehner , the Tea Party and the House Republicans. Now all you will hear from the media is both Democrats and Republicans are blaming Obama for the problem happening now. Just watch the talk now about President Obama heading to Texas for fundraising, but won’t be visiting the border. They are already saying it.

Helloooo TODobots! Is it real morning now? My eyes are half-closed because I was rudely awakened at 4:12am and not allowed to go back to sleep. Teenager starts her summer course today and felt she had to get up then to get ready to catch train at 6:30am!!!!! Ay yi yi yi yi. This too shall pass.

TY, Cindy. As you’ll see below, I’m almost back on track. My night’s sleep is always broken, but my mind, or whatever, prefers to do the ‘breaking’ itself as opposed to being helped by outside factors. Weird, but true.

It was encouraging to read somewhere that you were/are recovering nicely from the bout that laid you up. Continue to take good care of you, of course! Have a SPLENDID and Healthy Monday!
