Okay, m’dears. Back from errands, way too hot again today. Oh, and if anyone would like to add their loving Energy and Light Presence to the transit of my letter to PBO (!), it is heading out today via Priority Mail! Eeeps!! 😉 😉

Good luck, MP! Did you invite him to Seattle? My daughter the public health nurse in South Seattle invited him to walk a day in her shoes before her department is eliminated due to short-sighted budget cuts. He would absolutely love the babies she visits in their homes.

      • July 16, 2014 at 4:43 pm

Thanks, Judith. I didn’t specifically invite him, but he knows Seattle well, he and His mum lived here when he was a wee tot, and she grew up over on Mercer Island. I also forgot to mention his mom and my daughter graduated from the same middle school. There was a lot of other stuff in the letter. Needless to say, I hope he reads it. I leave the rest up to the Universe now! It was wonderful to write, and to feel he might actually find it interesting. We’ll know soon enough, I suppose!

Oh, I hope so! They have to sort through millions of pieces of mail in the correspondence office, so it may take a while to hear anything back, if ever. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to know he was able to read these supportive messages from Seattle? They are worth writing even if they don’t make the cut for the 10 his eyes see each night.

Is the Supreme Court Out of Order?

    By Bill Moyers

This week Bill speaks with Linda Greenhouse a New York Times columnist and Dahlia Lithwick, a senior editor at Slate, about the latest rulings from the Supreme Court, a beat they’ve both covered for years.

“You can’t look at the Roberts court and say that they’ve done anything other than systematically unravel voting rights, women’s rights, workers’ rights [and] environmental progress,” Lithwick tells Moyers.

Greenhouse adds: “I think it’s hard for anybody looking at this court objectively to come away not thinking that it’s a court in pursuit of an agenda.”

And unfortunately, that “agenda” is hate-filled and anti-democracy. This has got to be one of the most anti- people SCOTUSes in the last hundred years.

All-Star Game to Pay Tribute to Glenn Burke, First Openly Gay MLB Player

“There are now enough openly gay professional athletes in America that the phrase “LGBT Sports Movement” has entered our cultural lexicon. Britney Griner, Jason Collins, Michael Sam — they’re all pioneering black gay athletes whose bravery deserves attention. But so too does Glenn Burke, a Major League Baseball player who came out of the closet during the 1970s. Now, 40 years after Burke’s coming out and 20 years after his death from AIDS, Major League Baseball will publicly honor him at this year’s All-Star Game.” […..]

No US/Iran deal this week. Talk is now about resuming in Sept. Oh well. Unless this is a dodge and Sunday at the last minute a deal will be announced.

    [Acts of kindness.]

Vietnam veteran Michael Sulsona was visiting a Staten Island Lowe’s when his wheelchair broke shortly before closing.

Three employees of the home improvement store stepped in and put his wheelchair back together. […..]

[…..] “This whole story is based around three good guys,” Sulsona told SILive. “I think it’s really important that we all be like these people who wanted to help me; things would be so much easier.”

No he’s not playing. And thanks meta for bringing the facts to these arrogant Twitter know-it-alls who would fold after 1 week in the Oval Office.

          July 16, 2014 at 5:09 pm

Yes, and you are doing an excellent job, but he is extremely arrogant and at the same time quite uninformed. He was the one who said that PBO was “acting like a dick” and then referred to him as “Deporter-in-Chief.” There were a couple others and I just had to let them blather on – their rantings were just so filled with distortions, lies, omissions. As usual, there’s a pattern where PBO’s loudest critics seem to be either uninformed, dishonest or both.

          • July 16, 2014 at 5:13 pm

Agreed. I remember unfollowing him a while back but today I was not in the mood to let that crap pass.

              July 16, 2014 at 5:16 pm

I ended up blocking him, but unblocked to follow your convo with him. I will probably block him again by later this evening. Now he’s ranting about PBO taking Executive Actions – this is the same argument the emoprogs were using for DADT. Our President wants comprehensive immigration reform and and these short-term quick fixes do not address the underlying issues. Just like the problem of gun control – our President has already taken over 20 executive actions, but the underlying issue needs to be addressed via congressional action.

      • July 16, 2014 at 5:21 pm

They’ve lost it. Hamas is evil; of that, no doubt. But, Bibi has enabled them, big time, with his relentless settlements and all forms of oppressive behavior. And, the fact remains that Israel occupies territory for which it has no legal justification.

          July 16, 2014 at 5:29 pm

Agree with your analysis. These occupied territories bring the worse on a people that have no more to lose. Hence the birth of all the evil attacks from Hamas and their supporters. But Netanyahu has served as a catalyst, an enabler, a provocateur, an heartless man, and one who has short fuses and a short vision. He doesn’t care about his legacy but as in the case of Tsar Putin is all about show de force against a people that is less organized than his.
