Ever since I’ve returned home this afternoon I’ve been trying to read the current thread, catch up on the threads I missed, and make the odd comment on twitter. Ms NerdyW has been thwarting me every step of the way! Each time I think I’m almost there, something tells me to check the end of the thread – and sure enough she has run ahead with a certain glint in her eye. I’m on the verge of giving up…..after I catch up at least with current thread! 😀

Video Shows Buk Missile System In Range Of Malaysian Jet

I have no doubt US & NATO have all the necessary data regarding location of the SAM that destroyed #MH17, but have considerable respect for all those seeking the truth and doing so in a way that demonstrates what a farce US #NEWSTAINMENT is.

“We are reviewing whether any American citizens were aboard the flight.”

We should soon know the facts. My fear is that numerous US families are receiving phone calls that no one ever wants to receive.

  12. July 17, 2014 at 10:46 pm

Official UA readout of call …

“Petro Poroshenko held phone conversations with Barack Obama and Joseph Biden

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko held phone conversations with President of the United States Barack Obama and Vice President of the United States Joseph Biden in the course of which he expressed condolences to American people over the death of American citizens in the crash of Malaysia Airlines aircraft over the territory of Donetsk region.

Petro Poroshenko informed the American party on conversations with Prime Ministers of the Netherlands and Malaysia and said that he had invited experts of these countries, as well as the ICAO experts to join the full-scale investigation of the circumstances of the given tragedy.

In response, President Obama stated that the given tragedy had shocked the whole world. He commended the willingness of Ukraine to carry out maximally transparent international investigation of reasons and circumstances of the tragedy. In his turn, Joseph Biden noted that the call for international investigation was a wise decision and that the United States would consider the possibility of sending American experts from the Transportation Security Administration.

The President and the Vice President of the USA expressed readiness to further coordinate international efforts on the investigation of circumstances of the disaster.”

So, that story about the NBC reporter being let go? Josh Marshall from Talking Points Memo is rightly asking Jeremy Scahill some questions. You can check his time line if you’re on twitter. He thinks there is a big piece missing and I agree. I think it was Glenn Greenwald’s outlet that broke the story and I’ve been skeptical of the story.

brics – brazil, russia, india, china & south africa have formed their own bank to counteract IMF, World Bank, etc. Many justified grouses against these western banks. Let’s see how it all pans out.

They have formed BRICS (for Brazil. Russia, India, Chine, and South Africa), an alternative to the World Bank and it’s institutions (basd on the U.S. dollar).

Is this Sally’s opinion, or something she’s reporting from #NN14 (emoprog hotbed).

I remember very clearly how miffed NN were with Senator Obama when he didn’t grovel at their feet like HRC and John Edwards did.

He’s as progressive as VP Biden, but he needs to incrementally advance his agenda because GOP/MSM/Koch would immediately pounce and say he’s redistributing wealth! he’s waging class warfare! he wants everyone to be on welfare! etc.

RWNJs can’t use the race card against My Man Joe, but they insidiously promote the falsehood @VP is clown without a brain.

This is so wrong. Dems must be united, not undermining the people who are working hard every hour of every day on our behalf. Makes me want to scream.

  35. July 17, 2014 at 11:57 pm

@Kahsai (Kasai) mentioned this on the previous thread.

You can bet your sweet bippy President Obama will not be alone. I wouldn’t be surprised if all cabinet members who aren’t responsible for domestic governance will be there, along with crucial foreign policy strategists/historians.

It’s hard to believe how the events of the past year (and in Israel’s case years) have coalesced into extremely dangerous crises today.

Horrified, as is everyone else about the Malaysian flight, and concerned about what Israel’s actions are fomenting in other parts of MENA.

    Ms. Dudette a/k/aQueen of Sheba,
If you are around, I sure do not feel like a smile right now.
I do feel like James Brown “Bewildered”
I will be transparent and say I have to get in touch with my feelings before I can move on. If not, I get very angry.
And right now I need to stay focus, positive and prayerful. It is too late to go for a walk.
So much death in the ME, the plane being shot down, the children at the border is wearing upon my soul.
I cannot even try to imagine what our President is going through. BUT I totally trust him and know that he will bring us through this as he has done many times before.
I pray for PEACE in his heart. PEACE in his mind, body and soul.
For us here at TOD……Be Calm. Be Patient. Be Grateful. Be Still.

Thank you JOB for sharing Fareed Zakaria’s excellent article. Sometimes, it’s easy, for people who tend to live in the moment, to forget that that the past is not as idealistic as we pretend to remember it. John McCain, should know, and probably knows, better! But he is an angry small minded man who never got over the hurt that a Black man decisively defeated him for President. So goes around peddling hype and blaming everything on President Obama. The poor guy doesn’t realize that no matter how much he hates President Obama, he will never undo the results of the 2008 presidential election. I have never seen another loosing presidential candidate act like John McCain. But then again, most of the blame belongs to the media. It’s the media that routinely pops him up because they love people like him who are always eager and willing to turn everything President Obama does, or for that matter things that take place that are beyond his control, into negative attacks on him.

Any one my age who does not suffer from creeping dementia surely remembers worse crises in the the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s and of course during the G.W Bush’s presidency (2001-2008). Today was a horrific day. But there were many days like that before. Take 1983 foe example. During that year, Lebanon was in a grip of a brutal Civil War ignited by Israeli occupation of South Lebanon. Over 241 U.S Marines were killed by terrorists in Beirut. Iraq and Iran were at war. Reagan invaded Grenada. And if my memory does not fail me, I think that is the year that the Soviet Union is alleged to have shot down a South Korean civilian airline killing over 540 people on board. Also, in that year there were still Civil wars raging in several African and Latin American countries, killing millions of people.

Nath, not only was the Fareed Sakaria article a welcome reminder of how often the countries of this world act to destroy each other, it also, as you say, awakened memories of truly horrific times in our history. Those, like McCain who exploit these unspeakable tragedies for political ends or personal vendettas are no better than sewer vermin, although, unlike vermin, these people have deliberately chosen to live their lives in bitterness and hatred.

Good article this morning from Juan Cole on why the Israeli invasion of Gaza will fail, even if thousands die. Basically attacks like these will never succeed and Israeli MUST move toward a negotiated peace.

I was channel flipping yesterday, landed on Ed’s show to hear Patrick Murphy saying that Pres. Obama needs to channel Ronald Reagan in dealing with current crises. I was surprised, but even more so at the immediate fierce push back he got from Ed saying PBO didn’t need to channel anybody, especially Reagan. That PBO was elected to get us out and keep us out of wars. Wow.
