Night Owl Chat: Eric Burdon & War

One of these nights I’ll do an Eric Burdon & The Animals post. But I think he did his best work when he left that British Invasion group and explored richer territory with War. So a bit of Mr. Burdon & War to send you off to sleep.

Unless, of course, “Don” was infected, and then he’d be the first to demand return to this country. #Prick

Here’s another article talking about the African summit and the President’s vision in Africa. Lots of goodness here.

I know a girl from Iran at the college I attend to. She told me she was going to go visit for the summer and told me much about the culture and the great things about it that much of the West doesn’t know. Unfortunately it’s marred by ugliness as well. As I got to know her I realized our cultures aren’t that much different.

      • August 3, 2014 at 10:58 pm

Keep getting to know her, Jeff. The majority of Iranians are young, well educated, eager for democratic governance and do not hate Americans. They are also beautiful people with an exceptional heritage.

It angers me at how our media lies and deceives everyone. I also have another friend whose from Iran he’s Bahai. Is extremely upset what’s happening in Gaza. So many think that Iranians are all Muslim or Arab. None which is true.

          • August 3, 2014 at 11:08 pm

Don’t get angry, spread the truth, Jeff. We are the media and we prove it every day.

Indeed, Iranians (Persians) are not Arabs!!! Educate all you can to that fact, and many other facts. By educating, we can overcome fear and hate, as our President knows all to well.

Most wonderful people:) My coworker was Iranian and his wife as well…nicest, most kind and respectful people you will ever meet. I will miss him…he retired from teaching this year. Don’t believe the hype that some would have you believe about the people of this country. They are smart and young and inspiring and love the West…some people have an agenda of fear and loathing for others that serves their purpose. Don’t be fooled.

Yup, and Twitter is quick to suspend accounts making fun of media folks, but they take their good ol’ time suspending the nastier accounts that promote racism, homophobia, bigotry, misogyny, xenophobia, advocate gun violence, murder, or make threats against our President…

        That’s Twitter for ya….

For amk. How cool is this?

Jovie’s link to the ThinkProgress article on Siberian craters is quite worrisome — scientists have determined the cause to be collapse of tundra due to methane gas (the location is in an area rich in natural gas) — it’s been 9 degrees Fahrenheit warmer than usual in that part of Siberia…

Despite forecast for rain in Ventura county CA, weather.com informs me that we got a whopping .01 inch of precipitation, almost all before sunrise today.

What twitter account was that? Recall there was @blackchucktodd, but haven’t been following many MSMers recently.

BTW, did you see how much rain Ventura county got today? Flash flooding below the San Jacinto mountains extending into San Diego County is not unusual for August, especially on very hot days, but the rain usually bypasses this area.

Hi Everyone! Back from a pretty amazing family day.

Took my nephew, one young cousin and one not so young cousin with me to the National Center for Civil and Human Rights today. Saw amazing young poets and was floored at how interested and knowledgeable my two young dates were in the civil rights exhibits. Thought I’d have to drag them in and force them to read/listen to the materials in the exhibits. Boy did they surprise me! Brought tears to my eyes.

The kids were particularly blown away by one of the artifacts from the Martin Luther King Jr. Gallery — a transcript showing he got a C+ in public speaking (I think it was from seminary)! 😀

Young cousin: Wow, if he got a C+, I’d like to see who got an “A” in THAT class! 😀

CORSICANA, Tex. — For more than 20 years, the prosecutor who convicted Cameron Todd Willingham of murdering his three young daughters has insisted that the authorities made no deals to secure the testimony of the jailhouse informer who told jurors that Willingham confessed the crime to him.
