I understand, COS. When you retire, you tend to wake up at the time you did when you were working. Problem for me is that I get sleepy earlier than I did then and miss all the good stuff on the late TOD editions.

    Good morning, TODville.

Congrats, COS and Roberta MN on #1 at the best, most informative place on the Internet.

I understand completely about getting up early — I twisted my knee yesterday and by yesterday afternoon when I was commenting here was really aching, so I went to bed before it was dark outside.

Felt pretty stupid doing so, but the good news is that my knee doesn’t hurt this morning — kind of like when you’ve got the flu, the only thing you want to do is sleep, which is the best thing for you.

Agree with AMK about the pic. The baby girl’s eyes have such a deep affection for PBO, at such a young age (don’t know the backstory, she might be older than she appears) it’s truly astounding. R-money, Paul “Weasel” Ryan, McCain and the Tundra Twit can only dream of getting such an honest, heartfelt response.

So Israel says it will “allow” Palestinians to rebuild their homes if Hamas disarms. This is serious and unmitigated gall and a violation of international law. I’m praying for massive aid to Palestine so that Palestinians can not only rebuild their homes, but tell Israel to shove it while they do so.

Yes, jackieg. i feel the same way you do.
The pricetag for this re-building offer is the continuation of the bloclade by land and by sea and Gaza giiving up its weapons. In other words, total surrender by Gaza. Israel knows this is absurd, but they have to offer something so “rebuilding.”

You do know they’re puppies, don’t you?

It worked based on when we adopted our various pups, that I had about 8 solid years of dealing with older, ill dogs. I was cleaning up pee and everything else for all those years. When we lost my beloved Pilgrim, and Nickelby was about 5 years old, I said, “I want a younger dog. I need a break from heartbreak and cleaning up all the time!

Do we adopted Kasper, a bichon-maltese mix. About 9 months old. The problem: Kasper pees when he wants to, unless you are fortunate enough to read his mind and get him outside. He sees no reason to tell you ahead of time. So here I am, still cleaning up.

A word to the wise: don’t adopt a bichon. They are ‘above’ housebreaking.

and then what do I do? I adopt a (then) 7 year old yorkie who had been a breeder in a puppy mill who had lived in a cage her entire life. and she’s better housebroken than Kasper.

gm all – just caught up with some of yesterday. Great post from Mr Pierce here

“For all the fervor of his followers, and for all the tearful wonder that greeted the election of the nation’s first African American Chief Executive, this president believed in nothing more than he believed in the power of cool reason.

His belief that his good faith would be answered in kind was damn near indomitable. I don’t believe it ever occurred to him that reason would be met with unreason, that logic would be met with illogic, and that facts would be met with fantasy.

I don’t believe it ever fully occurred to him that action on the crisis of climate change would be met, not with a debate over the best way to limit carbon emissions while not demolishing the economy, but with a fervent denial that the crisis even exists.

I don’t believe it ever fully occurred to him that adopting a health care reform that (at the very least) had gestated on the Republican side of things would be recast for the masses as one step short of the Nuremberg Laws.”

Worth reading – and the end of the story surely must change

    • August 6, 2014 at 8:41 am

I think this President being a forward thinker knew from day one what he was going to run into but he was never going to change his approach of trying to reach out to the other side. Here we are almost two years into his second term and the President still wants to work with the other side. That’s how he rolls. Shell shocked? Not even a little bit.

      • 83 99ts
        August 6, 2014 at 9:05 am

I probably wouldn’t choose to say “shell shocked” but it gets attention – I do not think the President expected the level of absolute opposition from the GOP in congress – when he spoke of working for ALL Americans – that is what he was expecting to do – with help from both sides of congress.

      • 84 jackiegrumbacher
        August 6, 2014 at 9:09 am

I 100 percent agree with you, derbingle. This Pierce article is another way of saying that the President is naive when he is the farthest from that of any leader in the world. Barack Obama was no dewy-eyed beginner when he became president. He knew what he was going to have to face in the way of extreme racial resentment, but he was determined to persevere to get as much done as he could in the time he had. He made the most of the few years he had of a Democratic Congress and then he consistently outmaneuvered the dysfunctional Republican Congress he’s had to deal with. One thing people consistently ignore is how much this president has accomplished by persuading and partnering with business to reach his goals. When he’s thwarted by Congress, he uses his influence to get major companies to raise the minimum wage or extend nondiscriminatory policies or fight climate change. No president I can remember had this much sustained influence with the business community.

      • August 6, 2014 at 9:58 am

        I AGREE…with you Derbingleguy…

this has been a meme of the professional left…that the President is naive..that he does not know what he is doing ….that he has been bamboozled….

whereas on the right….the meme is …he is in over his head….he is illegitimate….that he is an incompetent dictator….

2 sides of the same coin…..

I see CBS is trying to get in on some of the ‘Obama is doomed’ weekly polling——today somehow insinuating that PBO is to blame for Israel/Hamas death and destruction—-because there was never any conflict in that area until PBO became president, I guess they want us to believe. Whatever is happening anywhere in the world—–media is now releasing polling results to show PBO is somehow responsible. It’s a real shabby and dishonest way to run a news organization.

      • 103 hopefruit2
        August 6, 2014 at 9:07 am

I’ve been saying from day 1 that this I/P conflict has been hyped up and used by the US media and certain factions to bring down PBO and to drag down his popularity for the midterms. I’ve been cautioning folks here and on Twitter to not get caught up in any propaganda on either side – because those who are leading those propaganda wagons have one (and the same) agenda: To HELP THE GOP in the November midterms.

Oh, I think these polls are because the African Leaders Summit is in town, and there are so many dark people being entertained at the White House. Certain people just cannot stand that. The White House is for white people only, doncha know? The timing, to me, is pitifully obvious. It’s another racebait, with no substance whatsoever. What they cannot tolerate is not only PBO’s color and mixed race, but that so many others of color have been guests in the White House. I’m an old white woman and I can see this connection, easily.

  26. 122 Vicki

Good morning TOD. Usually I stick to actual data when i make a political comment but not today.
Here is my unsubstantiated but firm feeling about November, 2014 and my supporting —not exactly evidence—-but belief.
The Democratic party will do much better than we think.
    The GOP knows this.
That is why a primary election night received muted coverage last night. As far as I know.
In previous years and earlier this year Rachel displayed enthusiam. She called the election music MSNBC uses when it displays results—her favorite sound.
This year, on the biggest primary night of the summer I tuned in for 5 seconds and saw Steve Kornacki sitting in and in the few seconds the TV was on saw that the first story was not the primaries.

Democrats will have a great election night.
The GOP is going into Primaries Don’t Matter mode.
Sort of like their permanent position that PBO doesn’t matter.

    You know. Benghazi, IRS—They matter.
    ACA, not so much.

We have them on the ropes.
If this strikes you at TOD as completely nuts I hope you will let me know.

    • August 6, 2014 at 9:34 am

^5 (vc told me this means “high 5,” first time I’ve used this expression ๐Ÿ™‚ ).

GOP/MSM and I guess “little Nate” (haven’t clicked on his site) are all in a state of denial.

They will know what “shock and awe” is like (no disrespect to the thousands of US troops who were despicably used as pawns by Rumsfeld/Cheney/Bush) after #2014LandslideDems, their biggest nightmare.

How many articles will there be about PBO “leading from behind” during the last 2 years of his Presidency? Heh.

Vicki I tend to agree with you. I was also wondering about the elections last night and why it got virtually ZERO coverage in the media. I’ve also noticed a couple things, which point to the media and TPTB’s efforts to demoralize Dems as much as possible:

      1. The international conflicts are being exaggerated and played up by the US media because they are easy to demagogue and make PBO seem at fault, while the domestic issues like ACA, jobs, CIR, are virtually ignored because PBO and the Dems look too good relative to the GOP.

      2. The stock market should be responding positively to all that great economic news coming out in the last several weeks, but instead it’s dropping in response to ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and middle East. I don’t get that at all…

      3. The “polls” put out by the networks are disturbingly ridiculous and seem completely unrelated to what’s actually happening. For example, Chuck Todd’s latest propaganda poll claims that 76% are “blaming Obama for a bad economy.” Which bad economy? Yet at the same time all indicators point to rising consumer confidence, increased spending, dropping unemployment, more jobs created, etc…

      4. Some of these “expert” polling gurus insist on reporting their outdated “Good news for the GOP” models – in an attempt to boost GOP morale and demoralize Democrats.

      • 126 Vicki
        August 6, 2014 at 10:02 am

Okay, hopefruit on your points—here goes. International conflicts are dramatic all on their own. Even the least informed among us won’t believe that PBO is at fault. Not that the GOP isn’t doing its best. The slurs are only going to reach that small old dying sliver who never will like a black president.
Yes. yes. And yes on the downplaying of domestic success. However, families getting healthcare for the first time have probably caught on that the ACA is a good thing. People getting paychecks won’t care what Toad says. Reality will be more persuasive.

The stock market is a mystery to me. My guess is that a response to the talk for the last 6 months that the market is “over-valued” may be what is happening now.

And polls??? We know these are bogus. Entirely fake. Marketing tools used to get a result not explain any facts. Just ask President Romney.
And leading by 30% no longer a member of congress, Eric Cantor.

To be more specific on your fear that unmasking Israel will harm POTUS. If I thought that, I’d never type “Israel” again.
Today, now that the air war seems to be over The New York Times is up with a story on repression of dissent in Israel. If Americans make the connection between Fox, Adelson and press repression by the RW in Israel it is possibe we can halt or slow down the RW press takeover here.
Nena posted Fox dropping out of bidding for TimeWarner, for example.

Good points Vicki…but I just wanted to comment on one of the first points you raised.

“International conflicts are dramatic all on their own.Even the least informed among us wonโ€™t believe that PBO is at fault.”

I would like to believe that’s the case, however, I’ve seen some PBO supporters on TOD and on Twitter imply that PBO is not doing enough to help GAZA and is in some way enabling the Israel malfeasance. In any case, my comment that the US Media is using the conflict in an attempt to drag down PBO/ demoralize the Dems still stands, as evidenced for example, by this:

Whether they will be successful in doing so remains to be seen, and as you indicated, might not make a difference at all. However, I think the more people are aware of the MSM’s using this conflict to generate negative sentiment towards PBO, the more resistant they will be to the propaganda.

Agree with these points. But the Polls? Why believe they are anything more than GOP tools?

I don’t. They are bogus – but many people don’t know that and believe the crap. I’ve seen some PBO supporters react to those polls as if they’re legit – and I have to set them straight.

The MSM is counting on people’s gullibility to sway public opinion. But the more people are aware of the MSM’s agenda with these polls, the more resistant they will be to the propaganda. That’s all! ๐Ÿ™‚

Vicki, here is an example of what I’ve been talking about.

This person is someone I follow on Twitter, and she is a PBO-supporter. But on this particular issue, she has been directing much of her frustration and anger at PBO/SOS Kerry, not at AIPAC or the AIPAC-controlled congress. If you read her TL on this issue, you will see what I’m referring to. There are others like her, whom I’ve had to correct on a few things, but they remain convinced in their own responses and reactions. It’s with people like these that the MSM hopes to peel off/erode/undermine PBO’s and/or Dems’ support, going into the midterms.
