Wow, look at that, Chips. You are first AND second. A modern miracle!!!

  4. August 6, 2014 at 2:26 pm

LL I commend your comment about the disrespect shown President Obama by some in the immigrant Latino community. They attack him, when he is already in their corner and doing what he can do towards equity and justice for immigrants and refugees.

Bil, I don’t want to sound like a stuck record, but this is why it’s so important for Democrats (not just our President who’s working his heart out) to actively reach out to their Latino neighbors and build relationships of trust. None of us can sit back and wonder why this group or that group doesn’t understand what the president is doing. We have an obligation to tell people as well. It’s just so important to attend Latino events, make sure every campaign handout or information brochure you have is bi-lingual, or help out at a Latino Center if there is one in your area. It’s harder for people to build encrusted attitudes if we all keep getting out the truth.

        Bravo, Jackie!

      • August 6, 2014 at 3:32 pm

Exactly. Politics are boots on the ground, talks over fences, volunteering. That’s how you counteract gerrymandering and Citizens United.

        August 6, 2014 at 3:42 pm

Jackie you make an excellent point about the Latino community in general. I have no reason to doubt that the large majority of Latino immigrants respect this President and see him as being on their side in their quest for CIR and other progress for the immigrant community. Of course, there are probably areas of confusion, and you pointed out, and these people require reaching out to and building of trust. It’s a responsibility we all have.

Having said that, I will also state that this woman (Erika Andiola) does not represent the “Latino immigrant community.” She may be an “undocumented Mexican immigrant” as she calls herself, but everything tells me that she is a well-versed political activist, and probably intimately knows someone in a position of power at Univision (which is also owned by MSNBC/NBC’s Comcast). She speaks and writes English as well as any university educated born-and bred American. She strikes me as an attention seeker, use attacks on PBO as ways to get further media attention. She’s a mole – and we need to be aware and skeptical of people like her.

If you notice, the tweet that LL referenced elicited a range of negative responses from PBO-supporters, but the one person who came to her defense seems to be an Obama-hater. He claims to be concerned about “his community” and calls PBO “Deporter-in-Chief.” He sends out a series of tweets chiefly attacking PBO, playing the “both sides do it” game and essentially ignoring the GOP’s role in the problem. Then in next breath he says he’s a US citizen and veteran. Hmm…There’s no question in my mind that this guy is either a Republican or a Libertarian left-winger who never supported PBO. So these “Dan Chois” of CIR are being circulated around by the powers that be to cause problems and confuse the people on the ground as to who’s really on their side. We have to be mindful of that…

        • 28 pkayden
          August 6, 2014 at 4:07 pm

I agree with your comments about Ms. Andiola. I really don’t believe that her confrontation with Rep King served her very well. He stuck to his talking points, even though they were repugnant and Rep King and his ilk will never support her position. I really don’t know what she expected to achieve by catching him off guard.

And I didn’t like that she put down Democrats in that video and said something about “both sides” being the problem as if Republicans and Democrats are on the same side of the immigration reform issue.

I would warn Latino immigrants about attacking President Obama and Democrats as if we are their enemies. We are their friends. They need to focus on their true enemies — Republican politicians and their supporters who have been very vocal in their anti-immigrant sentiments.

            August 6, 2014 at 4:13 pm

If you go down her Twitter TL (over the past week) it’s filled with “Obama should, Step up Obama, Obama must, etc.” and that video of herself staging the stunt with King. I wonder whether King himself wasn’t in on the stunt…

Andiola is the Dan Choi of CIR. She’s a paid activist and does not represent the Latino immigrant community as much as she pretends to. She does this for a living and to raise funds for her “advocacy” organization.

I am there, D-ette. I have been there since I returned, but………SILENCE! That’s why I’m having my mini tantrum – don’t want to miss anything, like yesterday when we were waiting and they started 1/2 hour earlier /latter said with great outrage/

Oh sorry. Right when I posted this link, they were showing PBO shaking hands and chatting with attendees.
The message on screen now says “Resuming shortly”. Guess we should keep checking.

            August 6, 2014 at 3:15 pm

Thanks. Them and their ‘Resuming shortly’! I’ve spent most of my day looking at that message – while doing other stuff of course, 😉 😉 😀

I saw that! It’s the sort of game they’ve been playing with me (nobody else, just me 😉 ) since yesterday. Trying to tick me off I guess. The only part of it I’ve liked is when they come on and say ‘We’d now like the press to leave’ or something similar. 😀 😀

IL was terrible getting the word out. I’m particularly mad at Rahm – he did NOTHING to inform Chicagoans of what they could get through ACA. The least he could have done is demand that the aldermen hold regular sign-up days in their wards. It was completely up to the individual alderman and there was virtually nothing in my area.

Our state legislature, too: Quinn could have done more to have the districts hold sign-up sessions.

And my U.S. Congressman? Gutierrez: he cares nothing for the immigrants and other constituents in his district. If you’re not undocumented, he doesn’t give a damn. Not a word from that miserable little twit. Understand I live in a lower to middle class neighborhood. We’re the United Nations. I know there are hard-working Latinos, working two jobs, who have no idea that they could have gotten decent health care for their families.

Our own peerless Bob has been joined by Chuck Hagel in his concern that Russia will invade Ukraine shortly. Bob & Chuck hagel worried? Now I am worried, too.

Also distressing were reports that the search for remains at the downed plane had to be called off because of increased firing. This has been intolerably rough on the families still looking for their loved ones to bury properly.

    • August 6, 2014 at 4:27 pm

It’s s*&t or get of the pot time for Vlad, Vicki.

He cannot sustain the level of troops on the UA border indefinitely and his economy is tanking. Only open issue is he ready to kill a lot of people because Ukrainians will fight to the last person, of that I have no doubt.

The smart folk see him moving in the next few days, if he’s going to invade, full scale, as opposed to continuing to trickle supplies and mercs and provide sporadic air and artillery support.

The trickle approach will fail because Ukraine is close to sealing both Lugansk and Donesk. Once sealed, they can simply wait for the mercs and separatists to surrender.

Like you, I want her to win. The Clintons have pull there. They speak Southern and Bill, specially, can bring the populist rant as well as anyone. And Warren was there as well.
Whoever is running her campaign is doing a mighty fine job. They are speaking to the wallets of the Kentuckians and doing it well. It will still probably be a nail biter on election night, but I don’t see Grimes making the same mistakes as Randian Paul’s opponent did.
Grimes is staying on the issues and talking to KY about KY. McConnell is hoping to ride PBO hate to victory. I don’t think it will work.

KY and GA turning blue in the Senate would be a delight and there is even an outside change that, due to all the acrimony on the GOP side, a Dem can come to the Senate from MS. That’s a long shot, but it could happen if the Dems in the state work their butts off.
