Is that what got Jon Karl so giddy with excitement? A president weighing some decisions about an ongoing international situation, and Karl is jumping up and down like a 12-yr old at Justin Beiber concert? Damn..this idiot needs to get out more…

good point. Mulling doesn’t really mean anything, just considering the options on the table. To the media however this means that he’s automatically going to act the way they want him to.

Afternoon, NCLB. I’ve been here, sitting quietly in a corner watching the action (at least when I wasn’t typing a report for someone).

I’d say you are 100% right! ‘Cause it’s all about HIM, in my book! (What has Sanders actually done, I sometimes ask myself.)

I’m sure you’ve noticed that as soon as the President acknowledges people, they become fast friends with him for a little while … maybe ol’ Bernie will say something good about OUR President for a week or two, eh?

Paul Reichof was also present and smiling. Another sourpuss critic, not always, but too often.

            August 7, 2014 at 1:47 pm

Paul Rieckhoff as “sourpuss critic” is spot on. I have never heard him say anything positive about President Obama. Never. It’s always criticism. PBO just can’t do enough for him. He makes my skin crawl. He is pals with Rachel Maddow. Whenever he is on her show I have to change the channel.

There’s nothing to criticize the President for, which is why they criticize – to deflect from themselves. Ugh.

Interesting. I am glad he did the update to acknowledge that the evidence may not be rock solid. But it is definitely something that I could see Putin doing. of course, come to think of it, only PBO is really capable of doing this kind of stuff, like he did at Sandy Hook or Aurora or any number of other times. At least, to hear the RW talk, he did.

      • August 7, 2014 at 1:37 pm

John, I’ve been tracking the information provided by Ukraine’s SBU for several months and it has been remarkably accurate and free of hyperbole. I agree with Prof Schindler that we need always to be skeptical, but the timing of the release of this info, as noted below, may well be to cause Putin to pause and reconsider his invasion.

    • August 7, 2014 at 1:30 pm

This really is a big deal, Chips and NW.

Putin was to have delivered, earlier today, an ‘important speech’ as announced through various official channels. Then the speech was ‘canceled,’ and then all kinds of ‘it wasn’t going to happen’ nonsense. Would not surprise me if Ukraine SBU exposed the plot and assassination lists as a check to Putin’s speech – a speech that was (may still) announce his ordering ‘humanitarian aid’ into Ukraine, i.e., invasion.

      August 7, 2014 at 1:34 pm

Bob, if this is verified, I have to wonder how Russian citizens will feel about being thought ‘expendable’ by Putin so he could have a cause for war. That Putin would make a deliberate choice to bring down any commercial airline, no matter who was on it, crosses any boundary of human decency. This is an international crime of the highest order.

      • August 7, 2014 at 1:44 pm

As noted above, Jackie, it’s highly unlikely that Ukraine would release the info if they didn’t have the intelligence (and probably have shared it with US and NATO experts whom are advising them). Also, it’s quite consistent with Putin’s MO.

The WHPC are quite angry that Josh isn’t revealing military strategy or tactics in a public press briefing. GAH.

    • August 7, 2014 at 2:19 pm

With this WHPC, all the speculation, opinions, unconfirmed info from “reliable sources,” and rush to be the first to tell what they *think* they know would add to the danger to our soldiers should there be a need to be in a war zone.

So Putin basn import of US poultry into Russia for a year. Devastating to US? Great for Russians?

    Well, not exactly.

Russia currently accounts for about 7% of total U.S. poultry export volume. That’s down from as much as 40% in the 1990s, the council said.
“We do not expect that a Russian ban on U.S. poultry imports will have a great impact on our industry,” the NCC said in a statement. ..
The bigger impact from the ban will likely be felt by Russian consumers. The Russian economy is already fragile and inflation has been heating up. Chicken prices in Russia have been rising at a rate of 2% to 3% a week, according to the council.

Just occurred to me that Putin’s ban on imports from U.S. could be a face saving way to not have to admit that Russia won’t be able soon to pay for its imports, given the financial squeeze that will result from sanctions against Russia.

I can’t help speculating about what would be important enough to bring PBO back to the WH during his vacaation.
I do have some guesses, though no confidence that any of them are accurate.

    1) New Aghan President arrives and an announcement about a SOFA that is in line with POTUS’ withdrawal plans is made.
    2) Representatives of the Iranian government arrive to announce the agreement on nuclear issues and lifting of sanctions.
    3) Netanyahoo comes to WH to announce lifting of siege in Gaza.

    4) President Barack Obama announces the executive actions he will be taking on immigration. (Most likely of all)

    Any other guesses TOD?
