Just another example of how different polls can convey different results.

Yesterday, I commented about some ads that are currently being televised for Michelle Nunn. Someone commented that she was polling 6 points behind David Perdue. Here is a poll that says the opposite:

β€œPoll: Nunn widens lead over Perdue”

    Posted: 6:19 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22, 2014

    ATLANTA β€”
A new poll in Georgia’s U.S. Senate race shows Republican candidate David Perdue is slipping further behind Democratic candidate Michelle Nunn.

The Landmark Communications poll conducted exclusively for WSB-TV asked active Georgia voters who they would choose if the election were held today.

Nunn received 47 percent of the vote and Perdue received 40 percent. Libertarian candidate Amanda Swafford received 3 percent and 10 percent of respondents remain undecided.

The poll shows Perdue with a 7-point advantage among men but trailing Nunn 52 percent to 34 percent when it comes to women voters.

Nunn has a 65 percent advantage when it comes to African-American voters while Perdue maintains a 20-point edge among white voters.

I tried to go on the C-Span website to watch the Journal this morning, now you have to have a cable company in order watch on line. ABC does the same think. What a rip off this is. Must be losing money with people watching on line. But this is ridiculous. Has anyone else run into this problem? I haven’t had cable for 2 years.

    • August 23, 2014 at 7:54 am

I do have a cable provider, but I have noticed online sites that used to allow direct access to shows now requires me to sign on through my cable provider. I had once looked at it as an alternative to my cable provider.

Same thing with on line access to most newspapers. You now have to have a paid subscription to access many of the articles.

It’s just disgusting. A lot has changed since Comcast got so darned big and started putting the screws to the networks. But S-Span is supposed to be for the public consumption. They have really gone off the rails in the last couple of years.

I took a gander at Wikipedia last night after seeing your “private” conversation with amk about jackfruit trees, and…

. their fruit can weigh up to 80 pounds
. they only grow in the tropics — they sound too enormous to grow as a houseplant, but since it sounds like they can’t survive frost, I think they can survive in only a few southern (as in Cali-east-to-Florida)
. Polynesians imported them to Christmas Island, but it was too cold for the jackfruit 😦 . (I had no idea it got cold there.)

‘I think they can survive in only a few southern (as in Cali-east-to-Florida)’

So does this mean you are volunteering to plant one in *your* backyard? πŸ™‚ Thanks, Arapaho. I’m just realizing what a gem you are!

                  I’ll ask Amk to direct my tree to you, and then you and I can negotiate how and when to get some (I won’t mind sharing) fruits to me. Oooooo, this is sounding so, so promising! {/whisper/ I was actually beginning to think I’d have to see about setting up a greenhouse in my little yard, but your solution seems much more realistic.}

                  Thanks! πŸ™‚

                    VC, you’re too funny.

Actually, in anticipation of the winter solstice, I bought a mini-greenhouse at a local DIY Center (which used to Builder’s Emporium in Cali) — it’s about my height (i.e., not tall) and was about $50. I’ve recently gotten into gardening and the prices seem to be pretty good there, and it’s not the total zoo that Home Depot is.

                    • 47 vcprezofan2
                      August 23, 2014 at 9:29 am

I’ll have to see if we have a Builder’s Emporium here. Our Home Depots are okay, I guess, but any less-crowded option is worth investigating, if only once.

Never was interested before since I’m not a gardener, but does your greenhouse come with all that you would need to get started or would one have to know how to ‘furnish’ it?

One of my concerns about the grand jury is re: the evidence presented…if no reports have been filed…what evidence are they looking at…as someone pointed out yesterday…even if DW did not file a report the other officers on the scene should have. And the PD should have done an investigation….so if none of this was done, what are they reviewing…

    • 64 arapaho415
      August 23, 2014 at 9:32 am

      Absolutely, PF58.

Posted this last night about this @Lawrence segment Thursday night re: no police report filed by Darren Wilson that included a couple tweets @Lawrence sent last week β€” that based on Chief Tom Jackson’s incendiary press conference no police report was filed based on advice of lawyer.

It’s damn infuriating that DW, on paid leave, has the luxury of waltzing into the Grand Jury and make up (i.e., lie) any story he wants to based on publically available info (actual witnesses, autopsy, etc.) β€” he can fit his story to match what’s already known.

The man on the panel said something to the effect of: β€œAll this (police) information (that incriminates DW), where is it? In the arch? It’s all disappeared.” He also said that DW probably did suffer injury to his face β€” either from hitting his head on something in the car or from the kickback when he fired his gun.

      • August 23, 2014 at 10:22 am

Even if DW did not file a report…the PD still should have done it’s job and not only filed a report but did an investigation…I want to know why they allowed Michael Brown’s body to lie on the ground for 4 hours…

another question…will the evidence gathered by the Justice Dept and the FBI be used by the grand jury….

I’m probably the worst person to give tech advice, but this works for me:

If it’s a YouTube video, I right-click on the video and there’s an option to “copy URL” which I select, then paste into my comment.

If it’s from somewhere else (like the @msnbc video upthread), I copy the link into a Tweet — but of course this won’t work if you’re not on Twitter. 😦

Almost every Saturday, I see on my TL that people are unhappy with Steve Kornacki’s regurgitation of GOP talking points in attacking PBO. Well, I don’t expect any different from Kornacki – which is why I never watched his show. These young Libertarian hosts on MSNBC are grossly unqualified to give any compelling critique of PBO’s policies, both domestic and foreign. So they have no choice but to lazily fall back on a script laden with GOP-themed talking points, handed to them by boss Griffin.

CORONA’s first mission in August 1960 provided more photographic coverage of the Soviet Union than all previous U-2 aircraft missions.

Satellite imagery was used for a variety of analytical purposes – from assessing Soviet military strength to estimating the size of their grain production. ……………….//

      We have awhile to wait.

Have heard that the Grand Jury will act in two months (October).

Meanwhile, Wilson gets to make stuff up as he goes along (see upthread, PF58 discussion and @Lawrence on Thursday night).

Also heard that Chief Jackson said nothing will happen to Wilson until after the Grand Jury’s decision — this was early on, may have been from his original news conference.

Meanwhile, the public is expected to twiddle its thumbs until just before the November elections…

    Good morning TOD.
I see that in 1/2 an hour Chelsea will be appearing on my TV screen on a channel I didn’t know I had. TOD IS mind-expanding!

In other news, between Labor Day and Election Day lie 9 weeks in which we may see polls that have at least a little relationship to reality.
(GOP pollls will lie up until the moment the votes are counted and perhaps even beyond. This is called Rovian Tabulation.)

I am very encouraged to see that Michelle Nunn has opened up a lead in front of David Perdue. For now I will believe only polls that show Democrats in the lead.

Once you know this, you will understand that every narrative in the media now and in the coming months is about midterm vote suppression. The media (like the GOP) considers PBO the biggest threat to the GOP winning the Senate and making gains in the house. They know that PBO IS THE STRONGEST and MOST TRUSTED DEM POLITICIAN and has been that way for a while.

So people who say that “PBO is not running in 2016” should be made aware that all of these MSM attacks on PBO are really about 2014!!!

    • 99 Vicki
      August 23, 2014 at 10:00 am

You are so right, Meta. 5 out of the 6 front page stories on the NY Times yesterday knocked PBO in ways either subtle or overt. The 6th story had to do with hospital room design so I guess they couldn’t link it negatvely to PBO. Here is a quick snapshot of NYT front page news on 8/22:

      1) US General Says Raiding Syria is Key to Halting ISIS. (PBO is too little? too late?? something, whatever.)
      2) Settling for 16 Billion,Bank knows it will Pay Less…( PBO hasn’t done enough to really punish banks who are still in charge of weak President)
      3) A Terrorist Horror, Then Golf Incongruity Fuels Obama Critics) Speaks for itself, doesn’t it???)
      4) Israel Kills 3 top Hamas and Fighting Turns its Way. (Subtext here is that even in the face of hideous injustice the so-called saviour president cannot do much Why vote?)
      5) Nat’l Guard Pulling Out of Ferguson as Tensions Ease. (See comment #4.)

This is supposed to be the most respected newspaper in USA. If you pay attention you will see that the NUZ dept is undesguised propaganda.

And yes, there was a short editorial on the op-ed page—-bottom of the page—- that discussed PBO’s success in addressing poverty.

Yes, the same NYT who helped GWB lie us into an illegal and very costly war.
