    Evening guys.

I’m sorry, I’m just getting round to seeing the opening segment from The Daily Show with Jon Stewart last night.

I’ve had and still have my issues with Jon Stewart’s whole “both sides…” shit, but the segment last night…

Good on you Jon, good on you!

Discovery cancels ‘Sons of Guns’ after Will Hayden’s rape arrest

Will Hayden — Red Jacket Firearms owner and the Discovery Channel’s “Sons of Guns” reality star — was arrested in East Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on August 8, 2014. He was accused of child molestation and was charged with a crime against nature. Hayden was released on $150,000 bail. On August 27, 2014 Discovery canceled his show after Hayden was arrested on a charge of aggravated rape of his daughter.

The show is based on Red Jacket Firearms, a custom weapons company Hayden founded and ran in Louisiana. The show ended its fifth season in May.

The gun company posted a statement on its website Wednesday saying it has “initiated and received full legal separation as an entity” from Hayden: “With heavy hearts, we will be continuing to operate and ensure the fulfillment of new customer orders, back orders and to provide support to those affected by these new developments. WE are the Heart and Soul of Red Jacket and will remain steadfast in our commitment to quality and our customers, for years to come.”

    h/t Dan Lee Uhl
    (From Raw Story):

The star of the Discovery Channel’s reality show Sons of Guns was arrested Tuesday on charges of aggravated rape of his daughter.

According to FoxNews.com, the East Baton Rouge, Louisiana Sheriff’s Department confirmed that Hayden is accused of raping his 14-year-old daughter in a series of assaults that began with him taking her virginity at the age of 11.

TMZ reported that Hayden’s daughter is backing up the allegations, claiming that her father forced her to participate in oral and vaginal sex “almost daily” for the past three years.

When asked why she didn’t report the sexual assaults earlier, the girl said that she was afraid her father would hurt her.

“Don’t tell them nothing,” he reportedly told her, “because I’m all you’ve got.”

Republicans paid someone to tell them this? Every single comment Republicans make and every action they take speaks of their contempt and hatred of women. Did they think this was going to go unnoticed? Maybe they think they’re also winning the Latino vote by showing their cruelty to Dreamers and refugee children. They can gather all the reports in the world, but if they continue to sell hatred, they’ll continue to turn people off. Keep it up, GOP. You’re doing a great job making your party a closed and very exclusive club that nobody wants to join.

They all seem to believe the propaganda FauxNews and the rest of the media spews 24 hours a day. Most of them were convinced PBO would lose reelection in 2012. They are getting high on their own supply of horseshit. More and more it seems the only people who believe the GOP propaganda is the GOP. They are stuck in a vicious cycle of alienating huge swatches of the population in an never ending quest to appease their white racist and sexist base. The media likes to pretend that these are the only people who matter, but I believe a lot of the people who are pissed at the GOP’s outrageous behavior (women, AA’s and Latinos) are being motivated to purge these rat f*ckers from Congress. We will soon learn the limitations of propaganda in influencing voting behavior.

Don’t worry, a lot of whites have a lot of buried rage over this stuff, too, that it ever began and that it’s still going on because of the haters … still going on, in the lives of little children … makes me want to hurt somebody. If one child isn’t safe, no children are safe. Profoundly heartbreaking.

I think Jovie said he was interested in visiting Death Valley National Park.

Here’s another reason to visit during winter (the photo in the tweet was taken last year on the winter solstice).

Winter would be a great time to go (freezing though) — I was there over President’s Day holiday during the last time Los Angeles had a rainy winter (late 1990s) and it was the oddest feeling to feel and see rain hit my yellow windbreaker but evaporate before it hit the ground (and I barely clear the surface of the land). The Panamint Mountains to the west were snow-covered — a wonderful experience, would encourage anyone whose a nature lover to go.

    • August 27, 2014 at 10:46 pm

Was Death Valley once part of the ocean?

Yes, Jovie in an area in Los Angeles, CA there has been fossils of whales and all sorts of sea life found deep inland many miles from the ocean. Maybe one day I will have ocean front property 🙂

Stopping this won’t be easy, Arapaho
It is not only private prisons but the “charter school” system that has the same aim. Take the taxpayers money and put it in the pocket of the rich.
Sports arenas paid for with taxpayer money and roads not paved. The list is very long.

Here is a bright spot: Sam Brownback, the Koch-owned idiot Governor of Kansas seems to be faltering in his re-election bid.
This pathetic politician enacted the most vicious tax policies. Rich people enjoyed large cuts so they could keep their money and the entire cost of running the government was funded by an unending stream of fees, assessments, licensing cost, fines, usage taxes folks couldn’t avoid, you name it.
Revenue fell. The state is falling apart and the people of Kansas are starting to wake up. Here’s hoping the people of Kansas vote in a better government this time.
That’s how we will get our country back.

      August 28, 2014 at 1:02 am

      Thanks, Vicki.

It’s the wee hours on the east coast now, so I doubt you’ll see this.

I like the phrase “poverty capitalism” — it clearly describes what’s happening in the US, in a quick sound-bite.

If the MSM weren’t Koch-owned, they would report on the success of California under @GovJerryBrown while they proclaimed that CA was “ungovernable” under Schwarzenegger after the 2008 financial meltdown.

CA was hard hit by the great recession, but now things look a lot different for the state — we’ve got a budget surplus and a rainy day fund, both of which were requested/promoted by Jerry Brown.

There’s still residual impact to many people after the financial meltdown, but it’s not the scary plummet that happened in 2009, when so many businesses and car dealerships went belly up.

Well, hello to everyone in the TOD village! You all deserve a medal! See, because I know you were waiting on line, and because once I sign on it’s hard to sign off, for the FIRST time in my traveling history I got ‘stuff’ done before 1-2am and can now play with a free conscience!

    >> luggage packed ….✔
    >> travel outfit ironed …. ✔
    >> sandwich filling prepared …. ✔
    >> juices stacked in cooler …. ✔
    >> kitchen cleaned & floor washed ….✔
    >> oven self-clean turned on …. ✔
<< front lawn mowed … ½ 😦 – lawn mower wasn't cooperating so we gave up!

I feel as free as a bird (or at least how I imagine a free bird feels). 😉 😉

So, what have I missed that I really, really, really should know about?

    JackieG and JO’B:

Did you see BigDaddyRich’s post on the R&S thread this morning about US savings bonds — that they’re no longer printed certificates but instead are online, and sales have plummeted?

I responded by saying that interest rates are so low now, few people would want to invest in them. I mentioned that I uncovered a $100 US Savings Bond that my mother had given me in the mid-1990s and when I redeemed it at the bank in April it was worth $115.

The only people making money now on investments are those who contribute to the casino mentality of Americans (i.e., the stock market), not on safe investment opportunities.

Good evening, TOD. 27M???? Congrats, Chips, Nerdy, LL, Zizzi, AMK, Lovely Plains, and anyone I may have forgotten! If she has not already done so, I hope HZ drops by with a special blessing for us all.

    • 48 HZ
      August 28, 2014 at 1:18 am

Hi Alycee. I hope we will all be grateful for all that our Chips has given us in this beautiful space. I am so grateful for her, Nerdy, LL, Zizi, Amk, Lovely Plains, Donna Dem, Tally, Bobfr, DF, Judith, Don, CarolMae, Carolyn J’OB, JackieG, and all of our brilliant TOD family members from all over the world.

I have not been commenting much because of the difficulties with my medical jewels; but I quietly come in when I can just to make sure that I have all of you in my space. I have learned that it is better to move those wonderful gifts of the positives into my space as much as possible each day I am graced with the gift of life.

We all have been drained of our wells of goodness of our emotions in these last few weeks; however, we will not give in to despair. We have too many people all around this nation and the world who need our beautiful threads of loving humanity. We have been gifted with one of the most decent men walking amongst us, our President. But his gifts are not our gifts, and ours are not his; but if we all put our gifts of goodness alongside of his, we will make a glorious difference. I know that.

We must always remember where we have come in this journey. Remember how we started out? Sure we cannot forget that mess that was handed over to him; but he did not mumble but he moved in and immediately to continue to work on the mess. And he will work on it every day he is in the Oval Office. He does not quit. And we must not quit either. Our work continues. We just have to really put greater focus and determination on the finish line.

So continue to enjoy your family times together, and count the blessings there. But remember there is a family who may not have any of those blessings. Please do not ask me why because I have not figured that one out yet myself. But I do know that we here within this TOD family know what blessed means. We all have had our taste of it here. Just meeting each other here where Chips is the reason for this great meeting, that is a blessing in itself. So we give our graces of threads that run through this beautiful, gifted, brilliant TOD family and try with all of our might to help PBO weave a strong, compassionate, and just quilt of humanity for all people of this nation.

We cannot control the vile and evil deeds, words, and thoughts against this president, but we can surely keep our focus and make a strong statement in Nov. We know how we did it in 2008 and 2012, and we even have more young people who are of voting age, so let us show them and the world that we can bend the arch of justice by showing up now, and then to help this great president finish the job.

When we get weary, step into whatever light you may carry in your heart and walk, shout, sing, and do your goodness. Whatever lies within your inner sanctuary come out on this stage and do performance of your life. Tickets go on sale this very moment, so go ahead and purchase all that your soul will allow you to release so that a child, senior, service person, and middle class family can stand up with a little more pride and applaud themselves because we gave the performance of our life with the 44th President of the United States. Justice just wants a part of our performance;, and do not forget the part for feeding our homeless; our men and women who have given us protection while their families gave us their sacrifice, these all are our conscience for this great performance of our lifetime. Come on, pick up your scrip tonight, tomorrow, and study hard and show up Now because we have a Performance for Humanity to make right in Nov. Quiet on the set: We Are Here To Move Forward with PBO. ACTION. HZ

      August 28, 2014 at 7:48 am

oh, Jeff, my heart goes out to you.

See your vet, of course. I don’t know where you live, but if possible also find a holistic vet (to work with your regular vet). There are supplements, acupuncture and physical therapy that can help a great deal. You can increase your dog’s quality of life by incorporating less invasive techniques or meds with side effects.

Finding a good holistic vet isn’t easy – and you don’t want one who eschews all traditional medicine. But I know of many cases where alternative medicine can really add to quality of life.

In Chicago we have a facility called Integrative Pet Care that specializes in orthopedic problems. We had a great relationship with one of the founding vets (she has since moved to Arizona) when my Pilgrim had insulinoma. we were there a lot for acupuncture and dietary changes for my sweet, old guy and saw first hand the many dogs who were helped orthopedically.

      Keep us posted.

These tweets from our Ambassador to Ukraine are a BIG DEAL ….

That he is using Twitter is a validation that the 21st Century is unprecedented in the history of humanity’s connectivity.

We each have a role in shaping the future of our species, a role that no previous generation of humans has ever had.

    Don’t WASTE it.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch continues to do an outstanding job of investigative, accurate reporting on Ferguson. They also are giving people a platform who want to talk about problems of race and work through them and people who are working for positive change and finding solutions. I must say I think it is has to be one of the best newspapers I’ve ever seen. I’m very impressed. This is a wonderful article about the many groups and individuals stepping up to find solutions. I could fit just a couple of the groups in my tweet. There are many ways offered for anyone who wants to walk with others to bring healing, love and respect.

….On Wednesday, a storefront on West Florissant Avenue opened as the office of #HealSTL, which grew from a Twitter hashtag, and is being developed as an outreach center, including offering voter registration…..

….French said the new group was focused on teaching the community how to get involved in local government. Right now, the startup is being funded by selling $9 T-shirts. But formal fundraising will begin soon, French said….

If you are interested in the volcano in Iceland, they have live cams. It’s 4 AM EST here and light there. Nothing showing because most of it is going on underneath the glaciers right now. Rei lives in Iceland and is very knowledgeable about the situation. Her diaries are incredibly detailed and the discussions in the comments even more so. I’m learning so much. If you look at the diary I’ve tweeted, you can click on the link of her name under the title of the article and it will take you to her diary stream to see if there is a more current report. She updates often.
