Good morning all. Got so caught up following up on last night’s thread, I missed the door–again. Everyday I see the poster of PBO on the right–the one with phone in hand and vote 2014–and I think it would be perfect to hang in the window of Dem headquarters across the blue and purple states. Unfortunately, I can’t find it anywhere. Hope everyone has a good day. There are aggressive voter outreach efforts in our area in the days ahead and lots of opportunities for people to make a difference. Even if there are no national races on your ballot, the state ones are important, too. Republican governance is slow death to our states and we need to vote to get back on a healthy course.

      GM, JackieG,

As you know, I’m tech-challenged, so probably the last person who should be offering advice.

If you right click on the image, you can save the image as a png. file on your computer. Like this…

YES!!!! Thank you, Arapaho. If I save the image, I can take it to the local UPS which will make a poster for about $12.00. That’s actually cheaper than buying and paying for postage. This poster is perfect in areas where people still don’t get that the Democratic Party is the party of President Obama and knowing that makes a big, positive difference.

          Such a great idea, JackieG!

UPS offers such great services; it’s such a shame that USPS is hogtied when it comes to innovation, because they are truly the only distribution center everyone in America has access to. Some of the remotest parts of the US (I’m thinking of my wonderful trip to Alaska a few years ago) literally have nothing but a local “diner/bar” and a USPS office.

Hope you post your results on a thread that more eyes will see (i.e., not at the crack of dawn on a holiday morning) to give lurkers a great inspiration.

Just bringing this over from the bottom of the last thread because it illustrates united opposition to Israel’s decision to disallow rebuilding in Gaza.

Looks as if Turkey is leading the effort to rebuild Gaza strip in spite of Israel’s opposition.

      GM Jackie…

This are the kind of efforts that deter the rise of terrorism…IMO…I think that terrorism can rise in the absence of HOPE….
There was no mention if whether there was US representation at the conference…I hope there was…

      This is from the article…
The two day forum, which was attended by 250 participants from 35 countries representing more than 70 foundations, was sponsored by Qatar Charity.

The participants presented research papers highlighting the Israeli aggression and its implication on the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Gaza.
The forum aimed to unify grassroots efforts to provide a helping hand to the Gaza Strip and to organise and accelerate the delivery of aid to the needy as well as to identify the enclave’s needs. The event included a presentation of the Miles of Smiles convoy’s efforts which includes more than 50 charitable organisations from more than 15 countries.

Pf, I’m sure that if the US wasn’t actually there, we were in the background cheering on and supporting the effort. Hope this is on Kerry’s agenda when he visits Turkey.

Totally. We need all those truthful perspectives out there – not just the fallback “blame the victim” pieces. If only White America would be forced ~ via a chokehold, perhaps ~ to read this.

Good clear explication. Makes total sense. And yes, the election of PBO has unleashed this white rage, I think.

Remember how, in 2008, politicians and newstainers almost bent over backwards congratulating themselves and the country for the election of President Obama? This was our big breakthrough, this PROVED the country was beyond racism, etc, etc. Now…..they are resenting this election and trying to divide the country. The very people who are constantly criticizing PBO were just hysterically thrilled at his election for a few weeks…..I’d like to see clips of Tweety, Ed, and others, and compare them with today.

Thinking back to GWB’s tenure and how little overt criticism there was. One reason Keith Olbermann became so popular was because he DID speak out against GWB. We looked forward to his weekly editorials in which he excoriated W, and was about the only one speaking truth to power. Of course, that’s what got him fired, and that’s what he did the night Gabby Giffords was shot. What he said was prescient. He has been proved absolutely correct in his statements from that long ago evening. We need him back. In my considered opinion, he’s wasted in sports.

^^^THIS. You got it right, in my POV. And I, too, really miss Keith and wish he were back. He just couldn’t play “the corporate game” – which is another reason we loved his doing politics (not sports!).

Haven’t read the article yet (will do so), but it looks like it’s coming from the right angle.

Those in power need to do some self-examination from the perspective of *why* they’re in power.

Good Morning everyone – hope you are enjoying labor day. We celebrate labor day on the 1st Monday in October – used to be 1st Monday in May – no sane reason for the change other than the govt decided we have too many holidays early in the year.

Today was the 1st of Spring in my world and the temps got to 27C – which is 80F – so methinks it will be a warm summer.

Happy Spring, 99ts. We had a break from “summer” last week, but it’s back to suffocating weather again. It really saps what energy I manage to harness each morning.

JOB, by 9:30 I’m either out for a walk or off to the gym. Do this 7 days a week, even Christmas morning. If not, my back would be stiff with arthritis so it’s a defense mechanism. For a few hours afterwards, I feel a little pumped up, but its ALL gone by 9:00 p.m.

Well, then 9:00 p.m. must be right for you! You go, girl!

I’ve always been a “night person,” thwarted for 30 years when I worked for the military. You had to be at your desk in an upright position sounding lucid at 0745 … at least, M-F for my first 25 years, until somebody finally heard about Flextime!

I like the heat until it gets over 90F – then I am done. Thus said – August has been cold – so I am pleased to have some warmth. Takes me forever to get out of bed in the winter!

Doesn’t all this Syria war-mongering by the news media/pundit class remind you of the “threat of mushroom clouds”? Seems like the fear tactics are becoming louder and more insistent, with warnings that an ISIS attack could happen here, maybe within the next couple of months—-and then mention that a 16 yr. old girl from France was stopped trying to leave her country to join. As if. Chris Jansing keeps reporting that PBO is under pressure “even from members of his own party”, without clarifying that “members of his own party” is Di-Fi. I see Richard Engel has joined the chorus also today. Looks like the Iraq war drumbeat all over again to me.

    • 49 jackiegrumbacher
      September 1, 2014 at 9:20 am

Fortunately for all of us, PBO doesn’t bend with the wind. He sets an intelligent course and sees it through. Frankly, fear is all the GOP has and they will play that one note from now until election day because they have nothing else to offer or say.

      • September 1, 2014 at 9:25 am

That’s it Jackie. Whoever votes Republican is surely doing out of hate, fear or both because it should be obvious to even the most die hard tea partier that the GOP is devoid of anything else.

    • September 1, 2014 at 9:21 am

Where’s the color coding? I wasn’t sure which level of paranoia to put on until I saw the color code bar.

And Di-Fi and the rest are going to be surely disappointed because The President is not playing that game.

    @latimes Op-Ed today, which opens:

“In late August 1921, long-running tensions between pro-union miners and anti-union West Virginia coal operators erupted into an armed confrontation totaling well over 10,000 men, a mess of bullets and a still-unconfirmed number of dead and wounded during five days of gunfighting at a spot called Blair Mountain. It was, in terms of people involved, the largest violent showdown between capital and labor in U.S. history.”

And goes on to discuss a court ruling last week which overturned an earlier decision to bar The National Register of Historic Places from designating Blair Mountain WV as a National Historic Landmark…
