ObamaCare Has Your Back Even While Changing Jobs

Amy Lynn Smith: Changing Jobs? Obamacare Has Got You Covered No Matter What

The Affordable Care Act gives everyone the freedom to change jobs without worrying about finding affordable insurance, even outside the open enrollment period. When Maria changed from a job that provided health insurance to one that didn’t, she wasn’t worried for a moment about getting covered — even though she has a pre-existing condition. That’s because she knew she could get insurance through the Affordable Care Act (ACA) no matter what. “I didn’t go a single day without coverage because I knew what my new salary would be,” she says.

“I could sign up immediately using the estimator tool based on what my income would be to qualify for a tax credit. I didn’t have to wait for my new job to start, which was awesome.” About eight years ago, she was in a job she hated but couldn’t leave because health insurance was out of reach financially. The best she could do with a pre-existing condition was a catastrophic plan for $75 a month that “covered almost nothing” with a $10,000 deductible. She stayed in that job for a year and a half, a choice she wasn’t forced to make this time.

Yes, Desertflower, our gold winner! My son with the serious pre-existing condition left his job at Facebook for one with a small company. It was great peace of mind to know he could get coverage.

My medication is less than 2.00 per refill; some of my mother’s meds are free and others greatly reduced in cost. Obamacare is indeed good to us and good for us. I hope that the ACA will always be referred to as Obamacare to commemorate the man whose empathy, courage, and political savvy brought it to us. I just love, love ,love how a term that the GOP dunces used to try to vilify him will instead allow generations to come to know about his great achievement.

LL, here’s a new one for you…I heard that there is now a war on “God Bless You”, after a sneeze. Apparently the liberals are trying to take the GOD out?? So we’re supposed to just say “bless you”?? Seriously, this is a thing??

      • September 3, 2014 at 4:29 pm

Oh, that happened here in Knoxville at one of our public high schools. Not a school rule, but one teacher’s rule. She had a list of things that were unacceptable for students to say in her class. Can you say “STUPID”?! The last I heard, it’s all been “worked out.” Geez. Like we don’t have serious things to think and be concerned about!!

      “Worse than,” “darker than” Bush/Cheney?

Yeah, whose watch did 9/11 occur on?

Who could care less one way or another if Osama bin Laden was brought to justice?

Who allowed the devastating 2008 financial meltdown to occur (with a huge assist from WJC who allowed Glass/Steagall to be repealed — I firmly believe that President Obama would never had allowed that awful legislation to pass — he knows right from wrong, and won’t play politics just for Dems to “win”).

    Greeting TOD family

Please pass this information along to anyone you know who is working as an “export” team, a group of volunteers who are working outside of their area to help Dems in tight races.

“KeepTheSenateBlue.org is a grassroots effort designed to connect volunteers from across the country with key Democratic Senate campaigns in 2014. We know that the single most effective action for turning out the Democratic vote and determining the leadership of the Senate in 2014 is a human conversation between one voter and another.

    Join us at – http://www.KeepTheSenateBlue.org

Do you want to volunteer or have a group of volunteers who want to make a difference in a critical Senate race? KeepTheSenateBlue.org will set you up with training, scripts and lists to call.

If you are already volunteering with a critical Democratic Senate race we can help you use the site to post your events and recruit volunteers.

Every phone call makes a difference.”

Thanks folks – being connected to this wonderful network is such a blessing. If you have any questions about the website or what we are doing to help, please send me a note at whatisworking@gmail.com.

At the moment only Northern California phone banks are listed, we are hoping folks here can help us spread the word.

    Absolutely agree, Nerdy Wonka.

Now, to supplement it, we need a pension scheme that we can take with us when changing jobs.

Fun aside: Now that the President is in Wales, we’re back into old Europe (i.e., before Julius Ceasar), when most of us spoke a Celtic language. Do you know that (north to south) Finnish, Estonian and Hungarian are older outliers in Europe – they are Uralic languages: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uralic_languages, as opposed to most European languages, which belong to the Indo-European group: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indo-European_languages.

The Basque language is considered a “language isolate”: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basque_language.

I did not understand #3; can someone clarify? We carry all of our stuff ( re: #7) because our mothers taught us that it is better to have and not need than it is to need and not have (plus many of us were Scouts).

We Americans are also taught to be self-reliant, so of course we will carry items for every continguency.

Carolyn, I was taught to “always be prepared.” My kiddos always joked that even if we were in New York city & some one got snake bit, “Mama will dive in her bag & pull out her snake bite kit & start treatment.” But that is just me, no matter where I go, I am prepared for anything!

Vicki, you might get a laugh. Hubby & I are Latino. On our first trip to Spain we thought our Spanish would be adequate enough to let us “pass” as natives. The minute we opened our mouths, people said: “Americans!” We had a great time though. I think Spanish as spoken in Spain as to Spanish spoken in the Americas is like comparing the British use of English to the American version of that same language. I love Spain! What history & the people were wonderful as well as the food.

PBO is all that so many have wished to be: smart, popular, successful, loved by much of the world, has a hot wife, beautiful kids and is sexy. All of the women want him and the men want to be him.

In 2013, Most Americans didn’t want strikes in Syria to save Syrians being gassed by Assad. In 2014, most Americans want Syria struck for beheading 2 American Journos.

No, I don’t get it for in May, many were not happy that 5 Gitmo detainees were released for Bergdahl.

No mention on any evening news programs, as far as I can tell—-switching back and forth between ABC and NBC. Nada.

  47. September 3, 2014 at 6:23 pm

“Presidents give a lot of speeches, and most of them don’t mean very much. They “urge,” they “call on,” and they “challenge”—and, for the most part, their messages bounce off their intended audiences. Congress doesn’t fund the program or balance the budget; the American people carry on wasting energy and dropping out of school. But there are occasions when presidential words are not mere puffs of breath and waves of sound—and today was one of those occasions.

Ever since Vladimir Putin launched his war on Ukraine, the question has been whether the United States would really act to defend its new NATO allies on Russia’s borders. During the Cold War, the United States stationed a powerful army in West Germany to put force behind its treaty guarantee of European security. Then the Cold War ended. NATO enlarged to include first Hungary, Poland, and the Czech Republic in 1999, then the Baltic republics, plus Bulgaria, Romania, Slovakia, and Slovenia in 2004, and most recently Albania and Croatia in 2009.”
