Nerdy, please see my comment on this lawsuit in the previous thread, #126 or there abouts. We need to not take this personally. The head of the “company” is usually personally named in any lawsuit filed against a corporation.

So I just arrived for a conference in DC and am staying at the Capital Hilton which is just 2 blocks from the Obama’s House!!!!! I mean White House. 🙂 I’m so excited that I might not be able to sleep lol. When I walk out of the hotel looking straight down the street is the White House at the end of it. My meetings don’t start until 10:30 so I think I’ll get a cup of coffee in the a.m. and stroll on down…:)

My favorite stay in a hotel room in the DC area became profound when I opened the draperies the first night and right smack in the middle of the window was the big proud Washington Monument, lit up in the night sky. That was pre-Obama, so you’ve got me beat on the sight to see!

That sounds so cool, jb! It’s pretty crazy to be this close to the WH for 4 days! The 4th day I’m taking a vacation day and being a tourist! Coming from National Airport to the hotel I saw building after building, some of them a block long, realinzing that all of them are the responsibility of POTUS. I can’t imagine his realization after being elected and coming to town and everywhere you look, it’s like “oh yeah, they report to me too”.

Isn’t it positively GREAT how proud this President makes us feel – not just of him, but also of all the buildings that are a part of his D.C. world!!!!

          GE forus50.

What a treat for you, temps won’t be scorchingly hot like in the summertime.

I’ve been to DC a couple of times, many years ago.

Thankfully my friend did all the driving so I could just gawk as we drove. 🙂 At night it felt like a real-world Disneyland, seeing the Jefferson Monument and other Monuments lit up and reflected in the Potomac (or whatever the body of water is in that vicinity).

          A couple of recommendations as a tourist…

Highly recommend visiting Vietnam Memorial at night (be sure to take someone — or many someones with you, want you to be safe!). IMO, it’s much more evocative at night. I flipped through the pages of the book that lists KIA in alphabetic order — what I noticed was that almost all KIA were born in the 1940s, killed in late 1960s (mostly 1967) which meant they were teens or early 20s when they died. Just heartwrenching. And most were Army soldiers (as opposed to Navy, Marine, Air Force). 😦

Unless things have changed, all Monuments are open at night, and are less crowded than during the daytime. All museums are free, but you need more than a day just to scratch the surface of what they have to offer.

Thanks for the update, look forward to hearing your whirlwind experience.

When we went for the 50t Anniversary of the MLK’s March on Washington, we stayed at a Hampton Inn a couple of blocks away from the church that that the First Family strolls to on warm Sundays. It was exhilarating just walking through the lovely little park facing the church and standing outside the WH grounds. Can’t wait for our TOD meetup in June! Wooooot!

Open Caucuses Remaining: June 4 – Virgin Islands, June 5 – Puerto Rico
Closed Caucuses Remaining: June 7 – North Dakota

Semi-Closed Primaries Remaining (Not sure what the heck that means):
Apr 26 – Rhode Island, May 10 – West Virginia, June 7 – California, New Jersey, South Dakota

          April 11, 2016 at 11:29 pm

          GE Dudette.

Here’s what semi-closed means for CA:

If you go to the CA secretary of state’s link, it’s extremely confusing because it says that open primaries were outlawed by SCOTUS on June 26, 2000 in a ruling specifically against CA. I guess CA allows open primaries because they give the party the option of allowing or denying.

New Jersey has a closed primary. We do have early voting. It’s basically a no-excuse absentee ballot.

          Morning Dudette,

In California, as you will note in Arapaho’s tweet, the Dems, AIP and Libertarians allow “No Party Preference”, or crossover voting. However the Repubs in California only allow Repubs to vote for their candidate in the primary. So I expect we will see LOTS of Repubs crossing over to do what they can to mess up the California primary. I hope really HRC has it locked up before California.

I have a friend who is married to a black woman, just as deBlasio is and when we get together in LA, he uses our slang as easily as we use them. I have no problem with deBlasio using CPT simply because he knows what it means. I don’t see it in any way derogatory. I think we need to lighten up.

One thing I have been annoyed about in my world is the majority of my tribal council opposed the state requiring the schools change their team mascot names away from Native American references such as Braves, Warriors, Red Skins etc. I am for changing them as it puts us on the level of animals like Tigers, Bears, Ducks etc. Change the logos now and down the line that built-in disrespect should lessen.

      • 53 vcprezofan2
        April 11, 2016 at 11:38 pm

IMO it’s *hard* to lighten up as a group. There are some of us who do find it ‘unprofessional’ – for want of a better word – and derogatory because it’s stereotyping and it’s negative! At this level Clinton, and other politicians, ought to be working on the principle that since you can’t please all of the people all of the time, you ought to try your very best to avoid obvious potentially offensive comments.

        • 54 jacquelineoboomer
          April 12, 2016 at 12:02 am

That sounds like a good principle – and obligation – if for nothing else than to serve as an example for people who would mean it offensively. Lots of them still around, unfortunately.

Brazil’s President Dilma Rousseff has suffered a blow to her hopes of staving off impeachment proceedings, after a committee voted they should go ahead.

The 65-member congressional committee voted 38 to 27 to recommend impeachment over claims she manipulated government accounts to hide a growing deficit.

All eyes will now be on a full vote in the lower house on 17 or 18 April.

The issue has divided Brazil, with police preparing for mass protests in the capital, Brasilia.

This service is used thousands of times a day as most mortgage lenders and investors request (with prior written authorization of the taxpayer) a copy of tax transcripts for full verification of income prior to approving a mortgage.

To me, not being able to get the taxes done and reported as expected for a Presidential candidate and saying they are too busy just shows Bernie cannot handle the job of President as it is much harder with lots of deadlines and things needing to be done at the same time.

I saw a bunch of tweets on Al Giordano’s TL about the fact that the last commercial flights from NYC or Newark to Rome on the night of the debate fly out before the debate is over. So he’s gonna have to fly charter — for a 10-minute speech and no photo op with the Pope – just a couple of days before the NY primary. Poor Bernie.

So sorry TODers, I’m once again doing my drive-by-postings. I think TODers are meeting up in DC in June & DonnaDem is organizing, right? If so & it’s happening, I’d love to join in after the WH Tour. I’ve been there several times since PBO (always a thrill) that if I go again, they might as well let me stay in one of those bedrooms & become a defacto family member! [OK, dream’s over, reality awaits …] 🙂 Anyhoo, I’m not sure which part of June this TOD event will take place, but would love to meet all of you somewhere after/before your WH tour, somewhere in the “etc.” part of the trip? Please let me know how, when, what, etc. HUGS!
