BS has been anointed by the Pope. WFF?

    • April 16, 2016 at 7:59 am

      …but no pics…

Sources told the AP there were no photographs of the meeting.

      =======

Makes me wonder about the conditions that brought about this “meeting”. Did someone with access to the Pope’s schedule advise Sanders to be in a certain place at a certain time? Did Sanders and his family position themselves that the Pope couldn’t help but “acknowledge” them? Was it a matter of the Pope being gracious and saying hello?

Sounds like it to me, SW, since they seem to have met him in a foyer as he was heading toward his plane. There’s no rudeness that I would put past them and I’m sure Pope Francis was not impressed. He does not suffer fools gladly.

        • April 16, 2016 at 8:08 am

Bernie seems to be obsessed with the Pope of late…trip to the Rome, using the Pope’s image in his campaign ads/materials, inserting himself in the Pope’s path to get that photo-op (although there were no pictures — Lol) …

          • April 16, 2016 at 9:02 am

It seems so wrong that Sanders would use the pope’s picture and words in campaign material, especially if he did not have permission that I wonder if it was photoshopped by some satire site. Is there any hint of that? If he truly did that, made it look like the pope endorsed him without permission, it is truly terrible. And I doubt he would have had the pope’s permission to make it look like he’s endorsing a candidate in the U.S. elections. If the pope hand no hand in this, I hope he finds out and puts a stop to it. Pope Francis is an intelligent and politically savvy man, from what I know of him, and I do not think he would do this.

I wrote similar below – before I read your post swbluega. Wonder how long Sanders hung about in the foyer?

      • April 16, 2016 at 10:57 am

Jeffrey Sachs is an advisor to the Sanders campaign. He maneuvered this.

Regret that I’m late in responding (don’t know if this has made a splash in US news, but my instinct is “no”).

Hope to be back at TOD later today with more Bernie bashing and may repeat myself, because this reminds me of something PBO would do — righteous (not petty or spiteful) well-earned revenge.

Thus, the long-run effect of Obama enmity has been to enable this president to expand the power of the executive branch, perhaps permanently. Not only did Republicans fail to contain Obama, they have enabled him to become one of the most powerful presidents ever, and certainly the most powerful non-wartime president the country has ever known as well as the most active and consequential “lame duck” president in memory.

When it comes to the power game, whether or not Obama has been making good or bad decisions is beside the point. He has won, while the GOP has been scoring on its own goal for the past seven years.

And the NYT still makes the case that 23 = 3 thus both sides.

“In truth, both sides have evidence to back up their claims about the state of the race among union voters. Mrs. Clinton has the endorsement of 23 unions, versus three for Mr. Sanders, and the unions that have endorsed her represent more members than all the unions in the A.F.L.-C.I.O. (Some large unions, like the two-million member Service Employees International Union, are not part of the federation.)”

hill & bill earned 140 mil in last 8 years???? jeebus.

    • 69 Don
      April 16, 2016 at 8:43 am

As grotesque as it may seem, all of their earnings are legal. After all, one condition for Hillary going to work as Secretary of State was that all of her and Bill’s financial records were made available to President Obama and his people as well as State Department investigators.

      • 70 amk for obama
        April 16, 2016 at 8:55 am

frankly, I was under the impression c’s were pulling in 2 to 3 mil a year by way of speechifying, but almost 20 mil a year? I would like to get into that business.

        • 71 Don
          April 16, 2016 at 9:03 am

Oh don’t get me wrong 140 mil is a staggering amount of money. I think that Bill used his connections as President to secure deals. Now is that legal, yes it is. But at the end of the day the Clintons are the ones have to be okay with the way they make their money.

          • April 16, 2016 at 9:17 am

I hope the Obamas earn something like that when they are out of the White House. It would not bother me one bit. It’s legal and you know people want to hear them give speeches, both POTUS and FLOTUS are great at giving speeches.

            • 73 99ts
              April 16, 2016 at 9:27 am

I’m sure they could earn much more bella – not sure that they will – through choice.

              • 74 Don
                April 16, 2016 at 9:55 am

Yep, they both could make a mint giving speeches and it wouldn’t bother me one bit. But knowing what type of people they are, money doesn’t seem to influence them in that way.

                • April 16, 2016 at 10:18 am

It probably don’t influence them in that way, but you know you can help so many more people. If someone came to me and offer me $100,000 to speak about a subject, I could used that kind of money, yes indeed, but imagine the donation I could make to organizations to help some one in need. I know this kind elderly lady who make a small donation out of her Social Security check each month to a organization that help feed hungry people. It’s not about making money for the sake of making money, yes it’s about taking care of your family, but it also is about reaching out to help those in need.

                    April 16, 2016 at 10:33 am

Same. I also read somewhere that the donate a lot of money. I imagine the Obama’s will also donate to lots of charities as well as invest in the causes that really matter to them. If I inherited a lot of money, I’d be helping all kinds of people and I’d be so happy doing it not because I’m so wonderful, I’d do it secretly, so no one knows, but because I believe “to whom much is given, much is required.”

                    • April 16, 2016 at 11:04 am

Most of the Clinton’s earnings go into their family charity, the Clinton Global Initiative, which has done major work on AIDS and Malaria in the third world.

                • April 17, 2016 at 12:35 am

If they do it, it will be to raise money for the causes and organizations they start or support.

Pf, he’s a nasty, vindictive person who wants to be sure that if he loses, so does Hillary and the whole Democratic Party. He could care less about what happens if a Republicans wins as a result of his actions. His ego is more important than the country.

    • April 16, 2016 at 10:01 am

I have said this before, and I know that it’s not all Bernie supporters, but alot of his supporters remind me of Trump supporters. They have some racism in them too.

    • April 16, 2016 at 10:22 am

Good morning PrettyFoot, IMO Bernie Sanders wants to destroy the Democratic Party and has pretty much said so out loud.

I believe Sanders supporters consist of 28-32% Indy’s (RepubNameChng)& 12-17% Teabaggers. Thus, 40-49% of BS peeps won’t vote HRC as the Democratic candidate in the General Election. HRCStillWins.

    • April 17, 2016 at 12:43 am

He seems to have no control over his supporters and no interest in controlling them. they are only there to provide money and an enthusiastic backdrop for his stump speech. Black people are distractions too. They don’t ‘understand’ that his issue is the most important and they keep trying to distract him by demanding attention for ‘their’ issues. He is a rigid, single-minded thinker. It’s all he’s needed to be up till now.

Pope Francis has taken 12 Syrian migrants back with him to the Vatican after visiting a camp on the Greek island of Lesbos.

The three families, including six children, are all Muslim and had their homes bombed during the Syrian war.

The Vatican said in a statement that Pope Francis wanted to “make a gesture of welcome” to the refugees.

Thousands of migrants are now stuck on Lesbos after last month’s EU-Turkey deal to try to ease the flow.

Top EU diplomat Federica Mogherini in Iran for key talks.

The European Union foreign policy chief has held the highest-level talks between the EU and Iran in more than a decade.

Federica Mogherini is leading a delegation of seven EU commissioners for the discussions, which follow on from last year’s historic nuclear deal with the Islamic Republic.

Her visit also marks the start of a new phase in relations.

Trade, energy and the environment are areas both sides are keen to explore.

Good morning all. We’re supposed to have a weekend of rain, which will be much appreciated. However, hope big bad tornadoes don’t come with the rain.

At noon I’m meeting about a dozen other widows for lunch at a good Italian restaurant. What I have discovered in the past nine months is that women who are alone take care of other women who are alone. It’s a club, a sisterhood we didn’t want to join, but once we’re there, we’re not alone. This has helped and encouraged me to reach out to women who have lost their husbands since I have. These meetings have helped me to see that life does indeed go on, and that there can be joy. See you all after some delicious chicken piccata!
