    This is so awesome:

“Treasury Secretary Jack Lew is expected to announce this week that Alexander Hamilton’s face will remain on the front of the $10 bill and a woman will replace Andrew Jackson on the face of the $20 bill, a senior government source told CNN on Saturday. Lew announced last summer that he was considering redesigning the $10 bill to include the portrait of a woman. The decision to make the historic change at the expense of Hamilton drew angry rebukes from fans of the former Treasury Secretary. The pro-Hamilton movement gained steam after the smash success of the hip-hop Broadway musical about his life this year. Those pressures led Lew to determine that Hamilton should remain on the front of the bill. Instead, a mural-style depiction of the women’s suffrage movement — including images of leaders such as Susan B. Anthony — will be featured on the back of the bill. A Treasury spokesman declined to comment on the pending changes. But Lew hinted that a decision could come this week.

“When we started this conversation not quite a year ago, it wasn’t clear to me that millions of Americans were going to weigh in with their ideas,” he told CNBC. “We’re not just talking about one bill. We’re talking about the $5, the $10, and the $20. We’re not just talking about one picture on one bill. We’re talking about using the front and the back of the bill to tell an exciting set of stories.” Along those lines, Lew also plans to announce this week that Andrew Jackson — a less beloved former president whose face graces the front of the $20 bill — will be removed in favor of a female representing the struggle for racial equality, according to the government source. That decision would place a female on one of the most widely circulated bills in the world. But the historic change placing a female on the front of the $20 note won’t come for more than a decade, the source said, since the process for changing the design of that note is still in the early stages…continued”

Well put, Arapaho. Not sure why some people can’t understand that like it or not, we only have two parties from which to choose. Period. Vote for the better of the two. The choice in November will be clear. It will be either the Democratic candidate or the extremely flawed and dangerous Republican candidate. This is not rocket science.

arapaho, I have two Verizon modems! Neither works well, combined with the incompetent service, so I didn’t even discuss using them with the TWC representative, but it’s a question you should ask. Also, I found the TWC rep to be very helpful and honest – whaaat?! And I have experience with internet service reps because I started out – years ago with AT&T, then Verizon when I moved up to the SGV, then Frontier (yuck!) and now TWC. I do believe that TWC has improved because of the backlash they received from unhappy customers in recent years. So take advantage of their efforts to be better 🙂

    • April 17, 2016 at 2:12 pm

I’m following your conversation with arapaho Gail. I live in Orange County. I have an installation coming up with Frontier. I’m going to check out TWC. My friend has them and is very happy with them. Only bummer is that I think I’m locked into a contract for my land line (I was with Verizon anyway). Your information is very helpful!

        April 17, 2016 at 2:20 pm

Hi Sherry, I too have a landline, but it is simply for internet. I never use it and don’t give it out. I have my cell number as my primary phone number. I inquired to Frontier how to get out of my service with them and was told that I would have to have the new provider to disconnect my landline from Frontier and transfer it to the new provider. TWC said that they can do it without service interruption (overlap service). Since I have not been successful in logging onto Frontier and setting up an account, I have no idea who I owe a final bill to (Verizon or Frontier), but I’ll cross that bridge when I get something in the mail from one of them.

        Isn’t it great to be on TOD? We all help one another out in so many different ways {{{sherry}}}

Wow, GGail, thanks for the great info!

You’re right that I was reluctant to go with TWC because they weren’t very customer service oriented when I was last with them (before I ditched my TV).

And thanks for the landline info for Frontier — you are a real trooper, dealing with so many service providers at once (had to renew my driver’s license last week, 2 hours + at DMV, so wasn’t prepared to battle with Frontier/TWC also LOL).

I don’t have a landline phone, so obviously don’t use that assigned phone number — hope you post an update to let us know whether your transition was smooth or if you experience (yet another) internet outage. Crossing my fingers that you don’t!

Jer, it’s disappointing that the nasty, bullying delusional campaign that Bernie has run is not mentioned, but his so-called “poetry” is. I don’t find his screeching and finger waving to be poetic, nor do I find it appropriate that a presidential candidate has no answer for how he would get anything done and has spent months undermining the very party that allowed him to run under its banner. Hillary has spent her life helping children and promoting human rights and none of this real work gets mentioned, only the tired beef about her e-mails and speeches. The Philadelphia Inquirer blew it big time with this and I hope Philadelphia voters ignore the snide tone of this editorial and come out for Hillary in record numbers.

These people must lie about history in order to exonerate conscience. Yet the truth is what the truth is. John need not take my word for what conservative means. Merriam-Webster backs me up. He need not even take my word for the history. A hundred history books back me up.

But honest, grown-up Republicans, assuming there are any left, may want to take my word for this: They cannot achieve their stated goal of a more-welcoming and inclusive party while clinging to an ideology whose entire raison d’etre is exclusion. You see, social conservatism only works for those who have something to lose, those who have an investment in status quo.

    “They haven’t.

“Has Freddie Gray’s community changed for the better?

    “It hasn’t.

“What I am seeing is a new sense of agency in the community. Young people are organizing and claiming their voice and their space. They’re saying, ‘Baltimore is our city and we still have to live here.’

Horrible. I’m so sorry that happened to him.

The good part is that he’s a nationally known religious leader and civil rights activist. Word of this will get out further, unlike all the events of a similar nature happening to so many of our fellow citizens every day, whose names and faces are unknown. I wouldn’t wish the unfairness on anybody, but he’ll use it as a teachable moment. Hope he bounces right back up and keeps going, which I’m guessing he’s planning on doing – if he hasn’t already.

Birds are happily going about their soaring dances; bunnies are hopping all over the place; flowers are blooming. It seems to my non-US educated brain that New York has some of the best voting rules/procedures in the country, yet the Bernie bros are out screaming about how the “rules are not fair”. When they start to scream about the GOP states voter-id laws maybe they will have a point – but the GOP rules & allowing independents to vote are what Bernie followers want.

    • April 17, 2016 at 6:55 pm

I’m a big fan of CLOSED primaries! If folks want to vote in a party’s primary, they should have to make a conscientious decision to register under that party. As a Republican, I worked my butt off for Obama’08 during the primary & GE. As PA has a closed primary, I initially was resigned to waiting for the GE to vote for PBO; however, on the last day of registration, I considered the fierce urgency of NOW and became a 30 day Dem. I proudly cast my vote for PBO in the primary and GE.

I am too. I get so upset with these folks who want to come in and make changes but do no work within the party to make the changes. We are choosing the Democratic candidate not the independent. I am mad at the party for many reasons, but I will always be a democrat!

It’s curious how BS and DT are spouting the same nonsense about ‘fair’ primaries, ‘fair’ delegates, etc. These are the rules, which of course were written by party members. Since neither of these candidates actually gives a hoot for the parties, and don’t want to do the work of governing, they really do need to shut the eff up.

Recently here I was wondering what Sanders’ motivation is for doing what he’s doing (using the Dem party to advance his Trump-like agenda), and I think it was NCLB who said “follow the money,” meaning that his consultants are making money hand over fist).

But it seems to me he’s got another agenda, and I can’t fathom what that is.

      Here’s your tweet:

And this is how he treats the press:

      • 84 arapaho415
        April 17, 2016 at 8:33 pm

And then there’s this (I know Joan Walsh isn’t a favorite here, but I think this is worth considering):

My tweet was as clear as mud (hampered by character limit, I cannot deftly turn a succinct phrase like Chips and NerdyW do 😦 ), but this is what I was referring to (from Joan’s article):

        From March 21:

“By 2012, I no longer saw a way for Democrats to win back vast numbers of whites that didn’t involve somehow negating the power, influence, and interests of African Americans, who have become the most reliable Democratic voters. Negating that influence would be politically stupid as well as morally wrong.”

        snip /

”Even his decision over the years to run as a socialist, or an Independent, and not as a Democrat, has helped Sanders with his white, working-class base, which a slew of research shows has come to see Democrats as the party of minorities. In other states, ‘socialist’ might be an albatross of a label; in Vermont, the term ‘Democrat’ may cost you votes.”

Is Don still having Sunday dinner? This comment is for him (and for anyone else who appreciates mopping up spaghetti sauce with their bread):

I read your comment about your Sunday spaghetti dinners and your joy at mopping up the sauce with your bread. Do you have any Italian ancestors? The reason I ask is that this is a very Italian thing to do and it has a name: “Fare la scarpetta” The word “scarpetta” means “little shoe” and “fare” means “to do”. In Italy, it is considered bad form to combine bread with pasta, as pasta is a kind of bread. So to eat bread along with your pasta would be redundant. Asking for bread to be served with your pasta in Italy is considered tacky.

The exception is after you have finished your pasta. In that case, when there is only the sauce left in the bowl/plate (especially if it’s tomato sauce), you take a small piece of bread and use it to mop up the sauce from your plate and then eat your saucy bread…. Yum! Your finger becomes the leg and the piece of bread the shoe it is wearing as you push it across your plate. To “do the little shoe” is more common in the South (Rome and below) than the North of Italy. Not every Italian does it, and one would never do it at a formal meal, but a person who appreciates mopping up the sauce left on the plate with a piece of bread is called a “scarpettaro”. A good scarpettaro will leave the plate clean with no trace of sauce left. I assume from your comment that you, Don, are one of the best!

A meeting of the world’s leading oil exporters to discuss capping production has ended without agreement.

After hours of talks in Qatar, the country’s energy minister Mohammed bin Saleh al-Sada said that the oil producers needed “more time”.

Most members of the Opec producers’ group, plus other oil exporters including Russia, attended the talks.

They wanted a deal that would freeze output and help stem the plunge in crude prices over the past 18 months.

“The general conclusion was that we need more time to consult among ourselves in Opec and non-Opec producers,” Mr Sada said.

(not making fun or anything) Looks like some country or other sent them some snow. I guess I think snow because it’s white and on the ground and snow is more plausible to me than foam.

Brazil’s lower house has voted to start impeachment proceedings against President Dilma Rousseff over charges of manipulating government accounts.

The “yes” camp won more than a required two-thirds majority after a lengthy session in the capital Brasilia.

The motion will now be sent to the upper house, the Senate, which is expected to suspend Ms Rousseff while it carries out a formal trial.

She denies the charges, and accuses her opponents of mounting a “coup”.

This clip is better; it is longer and includes the part where Pope Francis describes how BS knew when the Pope would be leaving and was waiting for him in the lobby. BS maneuvered the encounter, probably hoping for a photo op:

In addition to reading the Bernie story, I was thinking the photo of Hillary in that tweet is the one she should use in all her campaign literature and ads! It about says it all. Pretty sure it’s from the awful 11-hour hearing testimony. She’s been asked every question there is to ask, and you have to admire her stamina. I would have let out a string of expletives (me and my friend susanne from Hawaii!) around hour 3.

Goodnight to you, Dudette – keep your eyes on the stars! ❤

I’m with you J’OB. My campaign would’ve ended right then, cuz I would’ve definitely let rip some major cuss words.
I didn’t watch all of The Inquisition, but I saw a President sitting there. She was amazing!

        Goodnight Dear! ❤
