Morning Mister, not so good the last few days, very down, progress so slow. We’re going to see this week if we can get her out of the damn place, get her home with home help. But they’ll probably say no, that it’s too early. We’ll see.

Thinking of you both – coming home is good but sometimes the facilities and help available in the hospital/rehab are also needed – some really difficult decision making not helped when you know your loved one is so unhappy. Sending all good vibes and hugs.

Hi, Chips. The home health is a good idea and it’s something that’s growing in the US as an alternative to keeping people in facilities. Your mom’s emotional well being is a big factor in her recovery so you and your family should do whatever works for her.

Joe Biden’s 2016 campaign: The Senate

The vice president has quietly embarked on a year-long legacy project to win back a Democratic majority.

Not long after putting a final pin in his presidential plans in the Rose Garden last October, Vice President Joe Biden started talking to staff about a different mission for 2016: helping put his beloved Senate back into Democratic hands.

Within weeks, incoming Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) was at the Naval Observatory for breakfast, talking over the details. Not long after, he returned with Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee chair Jon Tester (D-Mont.) for a 90-minute briefing on their top races.

“He was a man of the Senate, cared about the Senate, and we said, ‘We really need you to be our point guy,’” Schumer said. “And he has been.”

I guess it was at that meeting that they decided to lose the PA Senate race by rejecting Sestak and promoting McGinty who has never won an election. If she wins the primary tomorrow, we can kiss a Dem takeover in Pa goodbye.

No, AMK, he ran once and lost by two points in a Republican wave year. He learned a lot since that campaign and has been working this state for two years, listening to people and talking to every single Democratic group. Jon Tester decided he didn’t like Sestak because he’s too independent-minded and wanted a ‘yes’ person in the job. They scoured the state until they found someone who would agree to challenge Sestak and then gave her ALL the DSCC money intended for the general. She has been spending it like water on ads and daily mailings.

Yes, and I’m voting for him. His side has been underfunded compared to McGinty, but the actions of the Dem Party have made a lot of people angry. I hope he wins, but now that the DSCC has spent all the money pushing McGinty, there will be nothing left for the general and Toomey has a ten million dollar war chest.

For the first time in its history, the 1,000-year-old mosque at Thazhathangady in Kottayam, Kerala famous for its rich architecture and wood carvings, has thrown open its doors for Muslim women.

Women were allowed to enter the mosque on Sunday to take a look at its famed architecture.

Thousands of Muslim women, including tourists, flocked to the mosque from various parts of Kerala and abroad. The move comes at a time when the demand for permitting women at places of worship is gaining ground.

“This is a 1000-year-old mosque. Our women had not seen it so far and had a great desire to visit the holy place. So the mosque committee decided to allow women to visit it on April 24 and May 8,” Advocate Nawab Mulladom, president of the mosque committee said.

The mosque was not opened for “any celebrations or for offering prayers. It was only to allow women to see the place”, he said, adding the men were asked to leave the mosque before the women were allowed in.

Muslim women wore their traditional attire during the visit.

Who knows? Ironically, we have hundreds, if not thousands, of hindu goddesses and yet there are temples that won’t allow women. Thankfully, our courts are stepping in and tearing down those ‘man made’ barriers.

As you reach my age, the elections are about our children and grandchildren and the future they’ll face. We can’t afford to make stupid decisions not to vote or to use the ballot as a protest. There’s just too much at stake. Nate Silver gives Hillary a 90 percent chance of winning PA, but that’s only if people come out to vote.

This is why at this point, they should be left alone to realize that they are alone with the pipe dream of electing the Senior Senator from Vermont to anything else in DC. If you recall, brilliant Obama campaign strategists did let HRC alone when it was clear that the Senator from Chicago was about to clinch the nomination but she insisted on going to every rural area (more receptive to her than to him) and poisoned their minds with how electable she was (bless her heart. #Iamwithher now.). She had to come to the full realization of how hopeless her efforts were and endorsed him wholeheartedly at the Convention, called on her supporters (even the ones with big purse) to support Barack H. Obama, tell him them the line I’ll never forget. “Senator McCain is a hero and a good friend. But no way, no how, no McCain!”

Ted Cruz and John Kasich team up in deal to stop Donald Trump

The Ohio governor will give the Texan senator a free run in Indiana in exchange for the same favor in Oregon and New Mexico

Ted Cruz and John Kasich have announced that their campaigns will cede certain states in an attempt to keep Donald Trump from reaching the 1,237 delegates he needs to clinch the Republican nomination.

In a pair of coordinated statements released on Sunday night, the Cruz and Kasich campaigns said that the Texan senator would concentrate his resources in Indiana while the Ohio governor would put all his effort into Oregon and New Mexico.

Both have already stated that they expect there to be a contested convention in Cleveland in July and are already preparing for a second ballot.

However, for that scenario to come to pass, they first need to stop Trump. This apparent agreement seems to be an admission that only way to do so is for his opponents to finally cooperate against him. Under current rules, delegates are only bound by the results of their state’s primary or caucus for the first ballot. On any subsequent ballot, delegates are free to vote their conscience and, since delegate selection is often an entirely separate process from a primary, there is likely to be a significant shift in votes on a second ballot.

Grassley: FBI could leak Clinton email investigation
    Jason Noble, jnoble2@dmreg.com 11:38 a.m. CDT April 22, 2016

U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley suggested on Friday that the FBI might leak reports of its investigation into presidential candidate Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server as secretary of state.

Grassley, Iowa’s senior senator and chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, said an anonymous and unauthorized release of FBI investigative materials could result if officials at the agency believed prosecution of Clinton was stymied for political reasons.

“Is there going to be political interference? If there’s enough evidence to prosecute, will there be political interference?” Grassley wondered aloud during a breakfast meeting with the Des Moines A.M. Rotary club on Friday. “And if there’s political interference, then I assume that somebody in the FBI is going to leak these reports and it’s either going to have an effect politically or it’s going to lead to prosecution if there’s enough evidence.”

Cleveland settles lawsuit over Tamir Rice shooting for $6M
    Apr. 25, 2016 9:38 AM EDT

CLEVELAND (AP) — The city has reached a $6 million settlement in a lawsuit over the death of Tamir Rice, a 12-year-old black boy shot by a white police officer while playing with a pellet gun outside a recreation center.

An order filed in U.S. District Court in Cleveland on Monday says the city will pay out $3 million this year and $3 million the next.

The wrongful death suit filed by his family and estate against the city and officers and dispatchers who were involved alleged police acted recklessly when they confronted the boy on Nov. 22, 2014.

Video of the encounter shows a cruiser skidding to a stop and rookie patrolman Timothy Loehmann firing within two seconds of opening the car door. Tamir wasn’t given first aid until about four minutes later, when an FBI agent trained as a paramedic arrived. The boy died the next day.

The Saudi cabinet has approved sweeping economic reforms aimed at moving the country away from its dependence on oil profits.

Close to 80% of Saudi Arabia’s revenue comes from oil but it has been hit by falling prices in the past year.

One part of the plan will see shares sold in state-owned oil giant Aramco to create a sovereign wealth fund.

Announcing the reforms, Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman described his country as being addicted to oil.

The Vision 2030 plan, he told the Saudi-owned Al-Arabiya news channel, would ensure “we can live without oil by 2020”.

To be more precise: the Saudis were not necessarily objecting to the 28 pages in the report (although they can’t be happy about it), but the bill in Congress that would allow victims of 9/11 to sue the Saudi government. The PBO administration is strenuously objecting to a bill like this, that would put all Americans in danger overseas.

    • 87 Don
      April 25, 2016 at 10:24 am

I remember years ago reading the autobiography of Malcolm X, and in it he talks about blacks that moved into all white neighborhoods and that those black families did everything to be good neighbors. Even after repeatedly being harassed, and having their homes vandalized those black families still wanted to belong to that community. No matter what President Obama tried to do as far as race relations go, it was not up to him alone to heal the racial divide. It wasn’t up to those black families that moved into those all white neighborhoods to be treated as equals; it was up to the neighbors. To think that somehow with the election of President Obama that he was going to that eradicate racism is to believe in the magic Negro theory. But what is most perplexing about this academic is that he’s an educated man and he holds strong to the magic Negro theory, not even the average African American working a nine to five like I do would believe such foolishness. President Obama can no longer heal the racial divide no more than he can stop the sun from rising.

THERE IS ONLY ONE WHO IS IN CONTROL OF THIS COUNTRY OR THE WORLD FOR THAT MATTER…AND IT IS GOD….A LITTLE MUCH TO BE ASKING OF THIS PRESIDENT…IF A COUNTRY HAS LEFT GOD OUT AND NOT PLACED HIM FIRST WHERE HE BELONGS..NOT OBEYING HIS COMMANDMENT TO LOVE ONE ANOTHER…THE DARKNESS WINS. YOU CAN’T BLAME THAT ON THIS PRESIDENT!

Right, just like George Foreman’s jaw enabled Muhammad Ali’s fist to knock Foreman’s ass out.

I cringe every time I see all these high marks for the President, coming in the final quarter of his presidency, from media types who wouldn’t give him credit for knowin’ the time for seven years!!!!!!!!!!! Ugh. I’ll wait for the historians to tell us what we already know about our “most powerful” President Obama. In the meantime, we can all read our own notes.

      We love ya, Mr. President!

I guess I’m the latest bird to the early bird chat! G’morning Chips & TOD, and Happy Monday everyone.

    Chips so sorry to hear about the setback with your Mom. I can only imagine the stress on both of you, and what it must be like for her in that place. Sending you and her positive vibes for her condition to improve and her spirits to be lifted. {{{Chips}}}

Monday greetings from the north, where it’s chilly, rainy and overcast, but life is good!

In case you are interested, there’s a discussion ongoing at WH.GOV re ‘Economic Consequences of the Criminal Justice System’.

Smile, and the world smiles with you (or so I was told when I was younger – hmmmmm…probably why I chose to keep a straight face most of the time). 😉
