It actually looks like they did a good job with it. I remember earlier on thinking they cast the wrong lead for Michelle since physically she was way too short in comparison to Barack.

Weird story. I’m seeing tweets that the man was wearing a “panda suit” and threatening to blow himself up if the TV station didn’t broadcast something he had on a USB drive. He walked out of the building after authorities evacuated it. Now he’s been shot.

Well, I have an outrageous story to share. I went to the pharmacy to pick up Nickelby’s theophylline for his chronic bronchitis. Theophylline has been on the market for about half a century, long been generic. It cost about $10 for a month’s supply.

The manufacturer stopped making the tablets so we had to switch to a capsule, still generic. Are you sitting down? Do you know what the price was?

    $100.99!!!!!!!!!

The pharmacist said she goes through this all day long: the outrageous increase in drug prices, particularly generics that are only for profit.

Seriously, this has to be addressed. This should be a crime.

      April 28, 2016 at 4:05 pm

Wow, how can that be? Just when PBO is making healthcare available for everyone, lowering the price of healthcare the hedge fundies are buying generic drugs that are low cost and hiking the prices. Yes, but we can’t do it with Rethugs in office. We need a Dem President and Senate. We need people to get off their butts and vote.

57, the digestive medicine I was prescribed cost me $560 dollars and that was with insurance paying half of it. The irony is that it made no difference in my digestive health, but it sure made me poorer.

U.S. Special Ops Kill 40 ISIS Operatives Responsible for Attacks From Paris to Egypt

Delta Force and Navy SEALs have crippled the group’s ability to recruit foreign fighters and put pressure on the network responsible for striking Europe and Africa.
As the self-proclaimed Islamic State trumpets its global terrorist campaign, U.S. special operations forces have quietly killed more than three dozen key ISIS operatives blamed for plotting deadly attacks in Europe and beyond.

Defense officials tell The Daily Beast that U.S. special operators have killed 40 “external operations leaders, planners, and facilitators” blamed for instigating, plotting, or funding ISIS’s attacks from Brussels and Paris to Egypt and Africa.

That’s less than half the overall number of ISIS targets that special operators have taken off the battlefield, one official explained, including top leaders like purported ISIS second-in-command Haji Imam, killed in March.

    Hispanic Voter Registration Spikes

Registration among Hispanic voters is skyrocketing in a presidential election cycle dominated by Donald Trump and loud GOP cries to close the border.

Arturo Vargas, executive director of the National Association of Elected and Appointed Officials, projects 13.1 million Hispanics will vote nationwide in 2016, compared to 11.2 million in 2012 and 9.7 million in 2008.

Many of those new Hispanic voters are also expected to vote against Trump if he is the Republican nominee, something that appears much more likely after the front-runner’s sweeping primary victories Tuesday in five East Coast states.

A whopping 80 percent of respondents in a poll of registered Hispanic voters in Colorado and Nevada said Trump’s views on immigration made them less likely to vote for Republicans in November. In Florida, that number was 68 percent.

Rikyrah, the amazing thing is that Republicans didn’t see this coming from a mile off. You insult people, they’re going to find a way to get back at you. What did they think was going to happen in states with large Latino populations like Florida, California, Texas, Nevada? Were Latinos supposed to sit back and let themselves and their families become scapegoated? I hope 2016 sees the largest outpouring of African Americans, Latinos, Asians and Native Americans in US history.

Wow, if BS is bringing in that kind of cash no wonder 2008 candidate Obama and PBO must have really been flush with cash. There were so many people donating small amounts in 2008, 2010 and 2012 it wasn’t funny. The one thing that stood out is that NOBODY thought his campaign would go this far? Everyone was so enthusiastic with the Obama Campaigns that we knew he HAD to win again McCain and RMoney unless they stole it by cheating.

Donald Trump has conned investors his whole life. Then if things go wrong he either sues or he dumps the business using bankruptcy laws to put workers and tax payers on the hook for his mistakes and mismanagement. He used cheap labor in foreign countries like the companies he rails against on the stump. He is the example of what is wrong in this country. When he explained how he told his managers to hire a bunch of equipment and workers to fool the bankers into thinking there was great progress going on and trick them into investing a lot of money into the project. It worked just like his conning Americans into having them think he is on their side. He may be good at conning people, but how does that experience transfer to running a country that does not have the ability to run away from its mistakes by suing or going bankrupt?

The “Grand Bargain” That Saved Detroit

    By Robin D. Ferriby

On July 18, 2013, Detroit became the largest city in U.S. history to file for bankruptcy. Almost three months later, U.S. District Judge Gerald Rosen, the chief mediator appointed to midwife a settlement between the city of Detroit and its creditors, was coming to grips with the magnitude of the city’s fiscal crisis.

Without a massive infusion of cash or selling the city’s few assets, Detroit’s retirees faced a devastating loss of pension and health care benefits. Already the city’s emergency manager had engaged the auction firm Christie’s to appraise the most saleable masterpieces in the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA). None of the museum’s city-owned treasures – not even the Van Goghs and Renoirs – were off the table.

Judge Rosen saw a global settlement of stakeholders’ claims as the only alternative to a protracted courtroom battle that would further deplete the city’s resources. But devising a settlement that would also protect the city’s art and its workers’ pensions looked unlikely, unless Rosen and his team of mediators could locate additional funding.

On a crisp afternoon in October 2013, Rosen ran into Mariam Noland, the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan’s president, at the nearby Gateway Deli where they were both grabbing a quick lunch. “If I can help in any way,” she said, “please let me know.”

As a matter of fact, there was something she could do, he said, in a follow-up phone call. When Mariam arrived at his chambers in Detroit’s ornate federal courthouse, he outlined his plan.

Later, back in our office across the street, Mariam related what Rosen needed: $500 million from foundations. “I’ve got to get a few people on the phone,” she said.

    GA TODville.

Just dropping in for a sec to let you know that PBO dropped in on the #CollegeReporterDay.

His last answer was stellar (as always), giving students the facts about how as a group young voters have the most impact on elections (because they only show up 19% for Presidential elections, 12% for off-year elections).

He was so inspiring and the young people seemed so flippant and self-righteous — they really don’t know that PBO is the most exceptional President since Lincoln.

I caught only the last 4 questions.

All thumbs when it comes to technical stuff, but I think you may be able to view from whitehouse.gov/live or here…

1 Shocking Statistic Exposes Chicago’s Racial Divide

By Tom McKay April 28, 2016

What do 94% of the people who donated to embattled Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s re-election campaign in 2015 have in common?

    They’re all white.

Amid controversies over cuts to public services and education in disproportionately poor and minority neighborhoods, and months before suspicions over the mayor’s role in suppressing inquiries into the police killing of 17-year-old black teenager Laquan McDonald became a major controversy, Emanuel was financing his $24.4 million campaign almost exclusively via white people, a new study finds.

About 94% of donors to Emanuel’s campaign were white, even though white people comprise just 39% of Chicago’s total population, according to the new report, from progressive think tank Demos. Emanuel’s donors almost entirely (84%) gave large contributions of $1,000 or more. A staggering 80% of his donors had an annual income of at least $100,000 or more, despite just 15% of Chicagoans making six figures.

The only big regret i have is that PBO campaigned for him. I never felt that Rahm liked PBO that much. Rahm was a Bill Clinton stooge. Maybe that’s why PBO feels the need to have his Presidential Library in Chicago instead of Hawaii. There’s some unfinished business in Chicago he needs to do.

I totally understand why older women are so enthusiastic about Hillary: I AM ONE: I have watched what she has endured and triumphed over, I have watched people make fun of her and seen her stand up and smile, I watched her “stand by” Bill and give him what for, but not dissolve her marriage, I have seen her defend him when he was indefensible, I have seen her strength and grace, and am thankful for her. We as a group are frequently ignored, treated as if we have no value since we can no longer have babies, and no longer have sex appeal. I am just screaming inside Bravo, Bravo, Bravo Hillary. Keep it coming. You go and thank you for taking the hard road.

        April 28, 2016 at 6:37 pm

I thought this was one great article. One of the things on my radar for awhile was the kinds of changes Hillary was making at State. She isn’t trying to look “strong” like a man in 2016, she is being strong like a woman. I fervently believe we need this is foreign policy, frankly in everything. I think that’s why she seems so much more comfortable in her skin this time. At a time when women of our age are seeing all of the rights we fought for being at risk, and having to fight those same battles all over again, I am in awe of her strength. Everyone should be.

What she has learned and has become is breathtaking. I am so proud of her candidacy and will cry with joy at her inauguration, like I did at PBO’s. She is extraordinary.

Older women become invisible and unheard and it’s inspiring to see the way that Hillary not only demands to be heard, but has something powerful and important to say. The Trumps and Sanders of the world will do everything they can to shut her down, but neither she nor we will be silenced.

Rachel had on Jane Sanders tonight. She said they were going to push for open primaries. Bernie swoops in from his Independent status changes it in time to run as a Democrat then whines because Independents cannot vote for him in the Primaries. He could have informed his audiences to register as Democrats. Also does he not realize it is up to each state and their parties to determine how they run their elections? It is not a National platform issue.

      • 55 57andfemale

BS’ other potential platform ideas have been Dem platform issues for years. Except “sending the banksters to jail.” So the biggie will be open primaries. I’d like to see Dems stand up to him on this, but they’ll cave. Hopefully in 4 years it won’t be an issue anymore. But BS loves to highlight the “failings” of the Dems.

    Hi All

I wanted to address the ?? about OFA posted on an earlier OFA thread

In 2008 and 2012 OFA was a partisan electoral group whose sole purpose was to elect Barack Obama.

Today we are a 5013C non-partisan group that CANNOT work on electoral politics. We will retain that status after the President retires and hope he will join us in our community organizing efforts. We will no longer switch off the non profit status since we no longer need to get him elected.

Having said that several OFA volunteers are working on election politics with our “hats off”. We are volunteering on local elections, presidential elections and working on ballot initiatives, but our title is “engaged citizen” not OFA volunteer.

I am working on voter registration, and participating in delegate elections this weekend. Several other volunteers in Santa Rosa are registering voters, and calling for Hillary and Bernie.

If you would like to get involved with voter registration I would suggest you contact the local Democratic party or league of Women Voters.

If you would like to work on Hillary’s campaign in CA i have that contact info – send me an email whatisworking@gmail.com

Also – remember that although the official organization of OFA is not active in election politics – many of the OFA paid staff, volunteer staff, and OFA Fellows, will join candidates staff.

Just this week Jennifer Warner – National Field Director for OFA (#2 spot at HQ) stepped down to join the Hillary campaign.

In 2014 Sonoma County had an OFA Fellow who was hired by Tom Udall’s staff and he worked in NM for both Udall and Ben Ray Lujan. Having OFA Fellow on your resume still gets you in the door for on political campaigns.

Although the superb electoral organization and strategy we saw in 2008 and 2012 is no longer a part of OFA it lives on in the staff and volunteers that elected PBO twice.

If you live outside of CA, and can’t find anyone to work with, send me a note, I can see if my contacts can get you a name.

      • 84 jackiegrumbacher
        April 28, 2016 at 9:50 pm

At this point, both “Jane” and her husband are so toxic that the entire Democratic Party should work to shut down his miserable campaign. That the wife of any candidate for president would announce publicly that she wanted the presumptive nominee of her supposed party to be indicted is outrageous and unacceptable. She should be made a pariah for these remarks.

        • 85 jacquelineoboomer
          April 29, 2016 at 12:35 am

I think she’s already made herself a pariah … everyone else is just waiting for the “public announcement.” Pretty much during most of this campaign, I tried to remain neutral just to stay interested … finally crossed over to HRC … Bernie changed my mind, all on his own. If “they” had dropped out even a month ago, his reputation – such as it was (and I agree with much of his platform, in principle) – might have stood the test of time. What’s that old line about staying too long at the ball?
