Good morning Chips & TOD 🙂

Chips, hope your mom continues to recover!

    • April 30, 2016 at 7:37 am

Morning Sir Bob!! Thank you so much, slow but steady. Hope you have a blissful weekend.

Slow, but steady is good, Chips. We are all pulling for her.

        • April 30, 2016 at 8:15 am

Thanks a mill, Jackie. We found someone who is now Ma’s external care manager, she seems as sweet as Mary Poppins but is made of steel, so she’s going to start pressuring the home to get their act together and produce a proper plan that will get her home asap. A huge weight off our shoulders, dealing with these people was soul-destroying, but I don’t think they’ll mess with the care manager.

          Hope all’s great with ya.

Oh, that’s a great relief, Chips. My niece served that role when my middle sister was in rehab. She was an absolute pitbull about getting her mom the attention she needed. I’m a little sad that my oldest sister has lost so much of her memory. This is the first year she forgot my birthday and she also forgot when she was born and the ages of her two children. I have a big lump in my throat about that, as she has always been my rock. The deterioration has happened since Christmas.

            • April 30, 2016 at 8:37 am

Ah damn Jackie, I forgot your birthday too!!!! (I also forgot my mother’s and sister’s birthdays this week …… I’m a disgrace!).

Hope you have a completely wonderful weekend and you’re treated to all kinds of nice things!

That’s exactly what we wanted, a pitbull! It seems like most of the medical profession regard you as a nuisance even if you have the temerity to ask some simple questions, so hopefully she’ll put a rocket up their asses.

Happy Birthday again Jackie, and many many many more of them!

            • April 30, 2016 at 10:37 am

Many Happy Returns of the Day, Jackie, whenever is was! I hope it was uplifting. I am sad to hear of your sister’s decline. I have seen this in families of my friends, mostly their parents. It is so hard to say goodbye to the person that you knew, while that person still exists in the world. I imagine it might be even worse to go through that with a sister. As her memory fades, yours will still be strong, so that she still exists through you and your family’s memories of her. The love you have for each other is unchanging and will carry you through this heartbreaking time.

              • April 30, 2016 at 10:58 am

I was mislead by Chip’s comment into thinking your birthday was past! Having read further I realize to day is the happy day, so here is a song from some Welsh friends who happened to stop by…

                April 30, 2016 at 11:17 am

Thanks, meta. It is heartbreaking because she has always been kind, loving and there for anyone who needed her and now I see her struggling with the realization that she’s losing a part of herself. You’re right, though, about love being unchanging. That will always remain no matter what happens.

This sounds really promising, Chips; hopefully it will do the necessary in getting home participants up to the mark in treating Ma Chips. Will continue to hold you, Ma C and the family (incl. Master Danny) in our thoughts for sure! May you all have a more mentally relaxing weekend than you’ve had recently!

            • April 30, 2016 at 8:39 am

Morning {{{VC}}}! It’s an ENORMOUS relief, I’m indescribably happy to have found this woman (a friend of my cousin), I’m hopeful she’ll kick asses left, right and center.

Hope you’re in mighty fine form, VC!

Happy to hear you were able find an advocate for your Mom. Those people are hard to come by. This will be a very bid relief for you and your family. The hardest part is being tough on Mom and gentle at the same time. Even after 25 yrs with Ross, I am still a Bitchie Mom sometimes and a gentle one when need be. (((hugs))) to you and many prayers for Mom and your family.

Thanks, RanMan. I said on an early thread yesterday that you would make a good preacher? Did you ever consider it?

        • April 30, 2016 at 9:02 am

I did reply back to you. Back in 1994, I was seriously thinking of attending Dallas Theological Seminary, but I changed my mind. My favorite Aunt start calling me Preacher man when I was 8yrs old and she still does it today and I’m 59. 😀😀😀 Thanks for asking.

          • 42 jackiegrumbacher
            April 30, 2016 at 9:07 am

Well, it’s never too late, RanMan. From where I stand 59 seems very young.

            • April 30, 2016 at 9:10 am

As I told Dudette, on your thread yesterday, If I move in that direction, you will be one of the first to know. Thanks.

              • April 30, 2016 at 10:49 am

I’m not surprised by this RanMan, you seem to have a natural uplifting and spiritual quality. I had a facebook friend like this for several years. He would post on his beliefs and how he applied them in the world and especially in politics. He was not a trained preacher, but I was always moved and uplifted and set right by his words. He was not a polished writer but he told the hard truth as he saw it. (I was shocked and grieved when he suddenly died – I still look for his posts during this election). Whether or not you decide to attend seminary, I’m sure you are already a pastor to many people.

GM JackieG, to an inspirational model for citizen activist, so glad to have you on our (Obot) side.

Have the happiest birthday on a bleak day.

Hope you receive more garden nursery gift certificates (aside from love, the best present in the world IMHO).

Despite 90F+ heat in January, SoCal spring has been blissfully cool. Here’s an example I snapped yesterday just for you:

(left to right: nasturtium, desert bluebell [both resprouted from last year], Imperial Thai bougainvillea, columbine [blue], Iceland poppy [orange] and moondust yarrow [lower-right])

Arapaho, you are so sweet. I wish I was all the things you said, but I’ve felt sadly inadequate lately. Your flowers are glorious. And, yes, I’ll be getting a big gift certificate to my favorite garden center and will use it to the fullest as soon as the danger of frost is over for us. Around here, we’re told to wait until after Mother’s Day to plant or put out hanging baskets.

        • April 30, 2016 at 9:28 am

Happy Birthday, Jackie. Did it on FB but will do it here also.

Had to shake my head in agreement with your comment about waiting until Mother’s Day to plant. Eighteen years in northern OH — same rule. And, we still do that here in TN. True, don’t have to. It’s just a habit that is hard to break. ☺️

          • 51 jackiegrumbacher
            April 30, 2016 at 11:06 am

Thanks, TN. You know you live to rue the day when you plant early and find a frozen mess in the morning.

        • 52 arapaho415
          April 30, 2016 at 10:30 am

Wow, Mother’s Day to plant, that’s remarkable considering I was “late” in starting annual seedlings in March (instead of Feb), but am hoping they’ll bloom soon (will send you a pic if they do/crossing my fingers).

Unfortunately my bulbs have been a bust — I think the Feb heatwave (which lasted pretty much the entire month) did them in. Very, very few of the bulbs I planted in Jan have emerged, and this morning I accidentally broke off one of the few freesia blooms that have emerged, so I’m inconsolable about that (freesias are my fav, and [no doubt because of our Feb heatwave] haven’t seen any plants for sale at nurseries which is not the norm).

Enjoy your “bleak” day and schemes for putting your birthday gift to good use.

Iraqi Shia protesters storm Baghdad parliament.

Iraqi Shia activists have stormed parliament in protest against ongoing deadlock in approving a new cabinet.

Hundreds of supporters of Shia cleric Moqtada Sadr broke through gates of the protected Green Zone after MPs again failed to convene for a vote.

A state of emergency has been declared in the Iraqi capital.

Mr Sadr wants Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi to press ahead with a plan to replace ministers with non-partisan technocrats.

Powerful parties in parliament have refused to approve the change for several weeks.

US Supreme Court approves expanded hacking powers.

The US Supreme Court has approved a rule change that could allow law enforcement to remotely search computers around the world.

Previously, magistrate judges could order searches only within the jurisdiction of their court, often limited to a few counties.

The US Department of Justice (DoJ) said the change was necessary to modernise the law for the digital age.

But digital rights groups say the move expands the FBI’s hacking authority.

The DoJ wants judges to be able to issue remote search warrants for computers located anywhere that the United States claims jurisdiction, which could include other countries.

A remote search typically involves trying to access a suspect’s computer over the internet to explore the data contained on it.

It has pushed for a change in the rules since 2013, arguing that criminals can mask their location and identity online making it difficult to determine which jurisdiction a computer is located in.

Iran elections: Reformists set to take control of parliament.

Moderates and reformists are poised to take control of parliament in Iran after strong gains at run-off elections, early results suggest.

Preliminary results show politicians allied with reformist President Hassan Rouhani won half of the 68 seats being contested on Friday.

With the support of independents, they are assured of a working majority, a BBC correspondent reports.

February’s first round gave them 106 of the parliament’s 290 seats.
