No we can’t see it enough but I am shedding tears. It just got very real that he will be leaving office.

Me too. It’s funny, but oh so bittersweet. I’m not looking forward to a new President.😢

This is so classic, it will be held up as a comedic model for all future presidents to try to attain. Good luck with that. Years from now, guests at WHCDs will politely laugh at the current WH occupant and then think of the “great” one and realize that nothing will ever again be that much fun.

US oil services companies Halliburton and Baker Hughes have called off their proposed merger after resistance from regulators in the US and Europe.

The deal, announced in 2014, would have seen a $34.6bn takeover by Halliburton of Baker Hughes, creating a powerful rival to global leader Schlumberger.

Halliburton and Baker Hughes are the second and third biggest oil services companies.

The US Department of Justice filed a lawsuit to stop the merger last month, arguing it would leave only two dominant suppliers in the well drilling and oil construction services industry.

The European Commission also expressed concerns that the deal might reduce competition and innovation.

Both companies have been hit by a fall in business as oil and gas giants rein back on projects and investments.

      GE BillR.

PBO is amazing, he can truly do it all.

Hope he wins an Academy Award for “best short actor in a short film” next year (don’t think that award actually exists, though 😦 ).

Love Chips’ twitter timeline this afternoon — clips of some of the funniest moments from this short film, ROTFL with her hilarious commentary.

US cruise ship travels to Cuba for first time in decades.

An American cruise ship is sailing to Cuba from the US, the first such trip in more than 50 years.

The Adoni has sailed from the port of Miami carrying some 700 passengers. It is due to arrive in Havana on Monday.

Cuba and the US restored diplomatic relations last year. But several Cold War-era restrictions on travelling and trading are yet to be lifted.

The cruise trip only went ahead after Cuba scrapped a ban on its citizens entering or leaving the island by sea.

The US company operating the cruise, Carnival, had been given permission by both governments to run ships between Florida and Cuba.

A Cuban government rule stipulated, however, that Cubans could only enter or leave by plane.

    GE TODville.

This article was written by a University Law Professor who has written a book about Vice Presidents.

He puts in writing something we all know — Joe is the best VP ever…

    Here’s the article:

Interestingly enough, the author omitted to discuss the role PBO played in giving VPJoe the space to become ‘the most productive two-term vp in history’. I get the sense this ‘professor’ thinks Joe did it all on his own, so to speak. However, IMO if President O had not been the kind of leader who was willing to allow those around him to play to their strengths, VP Joe would not have had as great an opportunity to excel as a team player. This ‘historian’ ought to give credit for *all* the pieces that contributed to VP Joe’s stunning success.

        GE vc.

My thought is that the prof wrote from what he knows (and is slyly promoting his own book: “His latest book is The White House Vice Presidency: The Path to Significance, Mondale to Biden [University Press of Kansas, 2016].”

I didn’t get the sense that the prof was taking anything away from President Obama but elevates the position of Vice President to spur interest in his latest book.

He, as well as the rest of us, know that bookshelves will soon be heaving with the weight of all the books that will be written about Barack Obama as US President. Just my take.

P.S. Did you decide on frames for your new glasses?

          May 1, 2016 at 11:51 pm

Oh, I got the sense, Arapaho! To me, mention of PBO’s part in VP-Joe’s success was conspicuous by its absence.

Re my glasses, I’ve gone twice to the ‘glasses place’ and come away empty-handed. The first time just looking at the many choices in the showcases was enough to make me think I wasn’t in the mood to try on any. Second time – last Thursday – I tried on a few before I got frustrated and told the assistant (whatever), I’ll come back another day. At the rate I’m going I’ll probably need to have my eyes retested before choosing frames. This current unfilled prescription has been since May of last year! I’ll likely walk in, close my eyes, and pick something in exasperation one day soon.

              I can’t believe you remembered!

They look okay on her, I guess. Part of my problem, Arap, is that I ain’t very ‘fashion’ conscious. As long as I can see where I’m going I’m okay – it’s the ‘fashion police’ of my acquaintance who irritate me. They always have an opinion, after the fact. Me, I just hate having to make choices like these and contacts are not for me. Anyhoo, I’ll get them changed eventually …..once the spirit moves me. 🙂

@BrianStelter sent several tweets tonight reminding us of this day in history (which Chips unfortunately slept through 😦 [didn’t know about this site then, but have since read through that evening’s thread, which is hilarious — TODville saying, Chips? Where’s Chips???]) Thankfully we now have NerdyW and other bt’s now to relieve our desperation.

GE, arapaho. I remember that night so well. There was a tweet from someone in the neighborhood that was astonishing. I thought I’d saved it but now I can’t find it. Lots of people were guessing, some of them correctly. What a night!!

For some strange reason I seem to be in the minority here. How is it that Larry Wilborn’s addressing the greatest POTUS of our time with the “N” word is anything but trash talk and disrespect. It’s unforgivable for me.

    • May 2, 2016 at 7:43 am

I believe Wilborn did it respectfully… it’s a cultural thing. Taking it further, he said what the majority of others such as MSM #WhitePriviledge types especially EMPROGS and Red State Teabaggers mumble under their breaths in a disparaging manner 24/7. I see nothing wrong, perhaps it ought not have been said however to reiterate it made “the press corps” nervous and uncomfortable – this me likey.

    • May 2, 2016 at 1:54 pm

      Very disrespectful !!
