Congrats, COS. Can’t wait to hear what President Obama says in Flint. Snyder should have long since been hounded out of the Governor’s seat.

President Obama has the astonishing ability to adapt to every environment and say exactly the right thing. I don’t even want to imagine a Donald Trump trying to act with finesse in any situation. He would be like a lumbering elephant tromping in, crushing everything and everybody in sight and bragging about how great he is.

What a speech, makes me cry to think he won’t be around after January. He is so able to call it like it is and yet inspire! I bet he really helped them so much.

To the haters who didn’t watch NCIS because our wonderful First Lady was on the show, I just read from the Orlando Sentinel that NCIS drew 14.6 million viewers, the night biggest audience. Take that haters.

    • May 4, 2016 at 4:08 pm

NCIS was the number 1 series with the 18-49 age group for the night, topping the Voice.

Annieb, NCIS and NCIS New Orleans are two of my favorite shows. FLOTUS was her natural self and Mark Harmon had a special twinkle in his eyes when he was standing before her. 😊

    • May 4, 2016 at 5:13 pm

I watched and she was phenomenal. Is there anything FLOTUS can’t do? Really, she was terrific and I liked how they wove the Joining Forces theme throughout the show. BRAVA, FLOTUS.

The U.S. Department of Justice notified North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory (R) on Wednesday that the recently passed House Bill 2 violates the 1964 Civil Rights Act, according to the Charlotte Observer.

North Carolina officials have a Monday deadline to address the violation β€œby confirming that the State will not comply with or implement HB2,” the newspaper reported.

OMG, I hope you guys are watching PBO!
He’s been coughing and looked under the podium for water, then asked for a glass of water. The crowd went wild.
He’s still waiting for a glass of water.

He’s amazing, Gail. Anyone who hasn’t been watching should take the time to do so. He went to a town drowning in despair and gave them hope and a sense of power. He took down the governor and the whole Republican mind set regarding government and never once issued an insult. What a great inspirational leader!!!

I so agree he talked about why government is good and why we need it. I hope the people of Flint take hold of the power the President has reminded them they have.

This is also for all of us. He spoke truth!!!

    The Conservative Movement Died Tonight
    by BooMan
Wed May 4th, 2016 at 01:32:57 AM EST

Trump will run β€œopposing free trade, promising to protect entitlements from cuts, questioning the value of America’s commitment to military alliances, and shrugging at social changes like the growing acceptance of transgender people.” As Barro notes, β€œAll three of the supposed β€œlegs” of the Republican coalition stool β€” libertarian economics, social conservatism, and militarism β€” are at risk from Trump and the populist-imitator candidates he will spawn.”

There’s a sense in which few Republicans truly care about all three legs of the stool, but simply tolerate one or two of them to get the other(s) that really motivate(s) them. But virtually all Republicans care passionately about either fiscal or social conservatism, or about international affairs and conservative principles in foreign policy.

You might think that Trump is enough of a chameleon to get away with using an Etch-a-Sketch to erase his performance in the primaries, and he probably is. But he isn’t going to erase his plan to build a wall, and he isn’t going to start trumpeting neoconservative principles in foreign policy, and he’s not abandoning his attacks on free trade. On social issues, he’ll probably tack back to the middle, which is sensible and sound electoral strategy, but will still leave social conservatives feeling like they’ve had their party stolen out from under their feet.

I am not convinced the conservative movement died until Dems sweep this Nov and Dems continue voting in primaries. It might be just stunned but not dead yet.

That speech was powerful. He talked about the “culture of neglect.” How absolutely correct. That is what has been happening since Reagan. It’s finally come to affect real live people, and it must be stopped. I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall of The Beast when he had Snyder and the mayor in there! I KNOW Snyder felt the burn!!!! Suddenly the Michigan legislature expands Medicaid…..a visit from the president can be powerful! Bravo, POTUS.

Sure he has. He has united them around racism and sexism and xenophobia and Islamophobia. The fact that anyone could take Trump’s candidacy to hold the most powerful job in the WORLD serious is all kinds of scary.

PBO should not have had to come to Flint or Detroit. They once were thriving proud cities where the communities participated in the election process, now, they sit around with their hand out.

Let me say this, first of all I have compassion for those who are suffering with the water in Flint. They did not deserve this. But here is something else I want to say to those who did not vote. To those who is not register, to those who did not go vote, tell me again how you vote don’t matter. If Michigan had elected a Democratic Governor chances are this would not have been done. Voting does matter.

    GE TODville.

PBO’s Flint speech really got the crowd #FiredUp, despite their grim circumstances, and he wasn’t even trying.

Looking forward to PBO on the campaign trail, which Dems desperately need to #StopTrump.

Heard on the radio that Trump is considering Rudy Giuliani for Homeland Security, Chris Christie for AG, Ben Carson for HHS — basically anyone who boarded the clown car (aka GOP candidate for President) in the last 8 years. Can’t wait to hear what position Trump has in mind for Herman “Ubekibekibekistan” Cain. Since there were 17 candidates just this cycle alone, he’s got a lot of unqualified people to choose from (Michele Bachmann, anyone?).

Not sure who Isaac Dovere has in mind, but no doubt #FeelTheBern’s “consultants” rank high on this list.

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but did anybody else get the (in my case, unsolicited) sticker from the DNC with a caricature of Trump’s profile and ugly hair and the words “stop bigotry” on it? I’m so frosted over this. Where was this sticker 8 years ago, I ask myself.

    • May 4, 2016 at 7:44 pm

Got it; funny that was my first thought also! Unfortunately, the Dems, by their silence, consented to AND enabled the hatred and bigotry to escalate!

      • 96 jacquelineoboomer
        May 4, 2016 at 7:48 pm

Totally. And, after their silence, they’re still pointing fingers at the other side of the aisle – not at themselves.

First they came for the Jews
and I did not speak out
        because I was not a Jew …

Another Niemoller quote that our entire country, religious or not, needs to keep in mind, with the emergence of Trump in the presidential race (and I really can feel the similarities, and I don’t add that frivolously) …

… my favorite part of this quote is “I had an alibi in my pocket” … and don’t we all.

“And God asked me β€” as once He asked the First Man after the Fall, Adam β€” Man, where wast thou in those years 1933 to 1945? I knew I had no answer to that question. True, I had an alibi in my pocket, for the years 1937 to 1945, my identity disc from the concentration camp. But what help to me was that? God was not asking me where I had been from 1937 to 1945, but from 1933 to 1945, and for the years 1933 to 1937 I had no answer. Should I have said perhaps: ‘As a pastor in those years I bore courageous witness to the Faith; I dared to speak, and risked life and freedom in doing so?’ But God did not ask about that. God asked: ‘Where were you from 1933 to 1945 when human beings were incinerated here?'”
