A little off topic, but relevant. A few posts back people were worried about Trump’s security briefings. I have since read that PBO decides what he gets to see, and they don’t begin until after the Republican convention when he is the official nominee.
However, I’m beginning to get a funny feeling that he may not be the Republican nominee. Too many “bigwigs” are refusing to endorse him, and I think they will find a way to have another official nominee. Reince and our stupid governor Mary Fallin have of course endorsed him already, but neither of them is a very sharp knife! We call her Mary Failin’ or Mary Foulup.

I always remember what Axelrod said….that the day after the election when they got the REAL security briefing, they were stunned. What they’d been given before was pretty weak sauce.

I’ve heard this too. Carolyn. I figure the CIA wouldn’t want DT to have sensitive info either.

      From the above:

โ€œThe decisions about how and whether and when and what to brief to the presidential nominees is a decision that will be made by our intelligence professionals,โ€ White House spokesman Josh Earnest said Thursday.

“Those decisions, Earnest said, will be made by James Clapper, the director of national intelligence.”

“Bruce Reidel, who worked for 30 years at the Central Intelligence Agency and is now at the Brookings Institution, said while the two nominees get some briefings before the election, the real briefing period only starts after the election.

โ€œVery little information on intelligence operations or methods is provided until you are elected President,โ€ Reidel said in an emailed response to a question.”

    GE TODville.

Have missed a post or two here, but don’t know if much has been said about the devastating fire in Fort McMurray, Alberta Canada.

It’s a devastating fire which has consumed over 200K acres and 1,600 homes with entire city of Fort McMurray (which looks to be in an isolated area in Alberta, requiring residents to flee many miles away).

And this is what heartless, scared GOP fail to understand. Kindness begets generosity:

Here’s more on the Fort McMurray fire:

And PBO will meet with Canada PM Justin Treadeau and Mexico President Pena Nieto next month:

Fort Mac is relatively isolated, but there were still more than 88,000 residents in the immediate vicinity who had to be evacuated. Quite an undertaking. But many areas of the province of Alberta were devastated by raging fires and floods last year as well, and because of that, extensive emergency plans were put in place. So far, it looks like those plans are working well, as there have been no fire-related casualties reported so far, miraculously. The numerous pictures from the fires are pretty horrifying. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ However, it’s very heartening to read so many stories of strangers helping complete strangers in these circumstances.

        GE keltuc.

Thanks for the info. Great to see that Canada’s emergency response teams were prepared for a disaster of this magnitude.

Lived all my life in wildfire territory (So California), so completely understand their terrifying nature and destruction. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

Heard on the radio that it’s early in the season for Alberta wildfires (melting snow, damp Spring conditions), so that is worrying. Our wildfire season is typically in the Fall (Sept and Oct are most deadly).

CBS radio news also had a report that it was likely started by an arsonist — which happens here too. The fierce Santa Ana desert winds cause crazies to come out of the woodwork, jump off a US 101 Ventura Freeway offramp and ignite fires — IMO our building codes shouldn’t allow homes to be built between that freeway and the ocean — fires are part of the natural ecosystem for chaparral, and nothing can stop a fire when the Santa Anas are gusting between 50-100 mph).

Hi arapaho, I haven’t heard any confirmed cause of the original fire yet. But this year’s weather has been extremely unusual so far. I’m in Ontario, and we’ve had much colder than normal temperatures all year so far, and very little precipitation – either snow or rain. (Actually we’ve had colder than normal temps for at least two years now, which is another story! :-)). But I have a friend in central Alberta, and she has reported that it has not only been extremely dry for a couple of months, but they’ve had temperatures in the high 80’s and even low 90’s for weeks on end now, which is beyond bizarre for that region of Alberta at this time of year. Thankfully it’s just now cooling down, but obviously it’s too late. I’m personally afraid that this is just the beginning of another extra-long season of destructive fires. I hope I’m wrong. And a few others have suggested that with the climate changes that the whole world is already experiencing, this might just be the new normal there. Yikes. I hope they’re wrong too!

Meta, I was watching my local news here in SoCal and they showed all of these Sanders’ protestors outside a HRC rally. It really made me upset. They were acting just like Trump supporters, repeating everything Sanders has been saying about HRC. One young lady said that she is not going to vote if HRC is the nominee.

      • May 5, 2016 at 9:18 pm

UGH. When will this mess end??

It is very upsetting. Sanders is still taking in donations from these folks, knowing that he has no chance to be the nominee. I have a feeling that PBO is going to have to jolt these folks back into reality when he starts to campaign.

Bernie’s pointless little trip to the Vatican to harass the Pope cost over a million dollars. If he can’t charge it to his campaign, it means he either coughs it up himself or gets some suckers to pay for his folly. I have a feeling that’s just the beginning of the debt that Bernie’s going to owe for mismanaging campaign funds.

  18. May 5, 2016 at 8:51 pm

Make no mistakes about it. By being named the official nominee of the Grand Old Party Donald Trumpโ€™s shot at the presidency is very real. The worst possible thing that the democrats, and left leaning independents could do now is ignore that, or assume that there would be no way that he would be elected president based off of his ideas alone. Ignoring Mr. Trump, or laughing him off is how he got to where he is now with so little major opposition, until it was to late. It is going to be a tough fight until November, and for Democrats to pull this election out they are going to need to be united, smart, well calculated, organized, and most importantly willing to be as present as they can be in electoral system.

Couldn’t agree more, Pf. Sanders must now be regarded as history and his supporters are going to have to get over their disappointment and suck it up. It’s all hands on deck, all hearts on the line, pulling together. We can’t take any chances of disunity or the consequences for the country will be catastrophic.

I just saw Captain America: Civil War & it was freaking awesome….highly recommend seeing it for those are inclined to watch movies in that genre ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Black Panther is prominently featured in the movie and hopefully, his movie will be just as good (even though Ava Duvernay turned down directing it)

…and Benedict Cumberbatch (Dr. Who) will be playing Dr. Strange in the Marvel flick scheduled for release in Nov. according to the previews:

      • May 5, 2016 at 11:43 pm

It is the best comic-based movie I’ve seen since the 2008’s “Dark Knight” directed by Christopher Nolan (Heath Ledger’s final role as Joker before his untimely death) I really enjoyed Deadpool earlier this year too, but this is on another level. The cinematography & action sequences are mind blowing…and it was not corny at all.

I read the books when they came out. Civil War was the Marvel Universe’s Patriot Act cautionary tale. Haven’t kept up with all of the Marvel movies in recent years, but I might have to check this one out (as soon as I see Keanu, of course ๐Ÿ™‚ )

And Dr. Strange looks amazing! Too bad about the casting fail. Tilda Swinton is great as always, I’m sure (she killed it as Gabriel in Constantine) but I’m really conflicted about spending $$ to see something that is bumming out so many people.

      • May 6, 2016 at 1:03 am

Yes, the ‘Patriot Act’ theme runs throughout the movie. It is the premise of the split within the Avengers that occurs a few years after the ‘Winter Soldier’ conundrum….I’ll leave it right there so I don’t give away any spoilers….you really should go see it. I’m a tough critic when it comes to movies (especially big budget ones) and I really enjoyed this one ๐Ÿ˜Ž
