TOD Family, wishing all of you ladies (and guys that are both Mom & Dad) a very HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY! Was Blessed to spend the day with my Mom and my Aunt. My dear cousin Nikki hosted a Mother’s Day Brunch that was divine.

Thanks, Nerdy Wonka! Congratulations to our winner, Mighty Pamela. I agree – we still have the Obamas in the White House to enjoy for many months.

    Philippines election

Elections here are a cheerful, communal affair with large family groups or neighbours walking into the polling stations to vote together.

The constant crowds coming in and out it the elementary school in Manila’s Tondo district looked hard to manage. But Filipino election officials are well-practised, and voters well-informed.

Plenty of officials were on hand here to help voters manage the formidable ballot sheets, listing in this constituency dozens of candidates for the various local and national posts being contested.

The enthusiasm across the age and class spectrum for Mr Duterte in this campaign has exposed the weariness of Filipinos with the familiar political faces, who have delivered some economic improvements but little real change in the levels of poverty and corruption.

Mr Duterte has suggested he will disregard democratic checks and balances if they get in the way of fixing the country’s problems.

It’s a message that has excited and attracted people. Yet the numbers coming to vote here, and the positive and relaxed atmosphere, show that the faith in the familiar rituals of democracy is still as strong here as anywhere in Asia.

Skywatchers across the globe will see Mercury transit the Sun on Monday.

The Solar System’s smallest planet will pass directly between Earth and our star from around 11:12 GMT to 18:42.

Such a transit only rolls around 13 or 14 times each century; the next occasions will be in 2019 and 2032.

The event is impossible – and dangerous – to view with the naked eye or binoculars, but astronomy groups worldwide will offer a chance to view it through filtered telescopes.

Views from space and ground telescopes will also be live-streamed online.

They will show Mercury as a tiny black disc, smaller but darker than many sunspots, slowly traversing the Sun’s giant yellow disc.

Mercury spins around the Sun every 88 days, but its orbit is tilted relative to the Earth’s. It is that discrepancy which makes it relatively rare for the three bodies to line up in space.

Annieb, I kept clicking back and forth on the different C-Spans and couldn’t find it so I gave up. Now I’m heading off to bed. G’night every. body.

It was on ESPN2. I mention that in a earlier post. I wish I could think of the military man who spoke near the end, what a moving story he told. As I said this was worth watching. Even with G.W. Bush up there.

Did anyone catch G.W. Bush coming out to speak? I hope someone can fine a video of that soldier who spoke of his ordeal and what gave him the will to survive, his son. i’m sure it had some teary eyes in there.

I think in some ways FLOTUS reminds him of his mum. He seems to have a genuine affinity and respect for her. Of course, anyone who interacts directly with FLOTUS probably feels the same way just because of who she is. But I do feel that she and Harry share a special bond as well.

Yes and I think Harry has been very sweet to her. It’s been fun watching him mature into a man dedicated to enduring causes and jumping in with both hands and feet.

And from me as well. Mother’s day down under also the 2nd Sunday in May. Daughter and granddaughter arrived Friday. Had to leave Sunday morning cause they had a party on that day 🙂 🙂

Every day is Mother’s Day when you have a grandbabe – although I was exhausted by the time they left & rather pleased they had to go to a party.

AND – the liberal media – the top SIX items on TPM reference Trump. Front page NO mention of Hillary, 1 item on Bernie

No wonder the world thinks Trump will soon be President.

Ahhh – I missed the mention of Hillary – related to Trump attacking her because she “enabled Bill’s affairs”. With friends like TPM the Dems are so spoilt
