Continuation of Invictus Games images from last post….

In the audience: Prince Harry, Morgan Freeman and Michelle Obama sat to watch the performances before taking to the stage themselves

During the opening ceremony, the flags of the 14 countries taking part in the Games were brought into the arena with the British and American flags taking center stage

Game on! A huge burst of fireworks filled the sky above the ESPN Wide World of Sports in Orlando, Florida, at the end of the ceremony

Don, there was a cone of silence around Reagan regarding his dementia and few people realized that he had long since lost control. He had a well polished public persona from years of acting plus good script writers and people believed the congenial face he presented to the world was real.

        • May 9, 2016 at 10:09 am

Thanks for reminding us Jackie! When do we hear about that, ever?
Just a note on the cartoon though. Some of us have relatives who took their lives by hanging, and there’s also a terrible, disgraceful history of lynching in this country. Hope the cartoonist will think about that some time because it is not funny.

Tomorrow is the W. Virginia primary which Bernie is projected to win, so expect a week of faux momentum bleating from his campaign and the media. Next week–May 17– is Kentucky and Oregon, with Oregon a likely Bernie pickup. After that it’s pretty much over for BS with expected HRC wins in NJ, Puerto Rico, California and DC. Then, finally–finally–this endless primary comes to a close. I heard that Hillary’s people have said that BS can mess around with the meaningless Dem platform all he wants and Ed Rendell, the convention organizer, has declared he won’t tolerate any nonsense from Bernie supporters at the convention. God help anyone who crosses or embarrasses Rendell–just ask Joe Sestak.

      May 9, 2016 at 8:38 am

Ed Rendell, my goodness is he still around? Though I’m going to vote for Hillary I’m still going to break balls every chance I get. To be honest Joe Sestak isn’t the toughest guy around, more than likely Ed told him that there is a right way and a wrong way to do business.

        May 9, 2016 at 8:42 am

Rendell sabotaged Sestake’s run for PA Senate by recruiting another candidate very late in the game and spending millions to build up her name. She’s never won an elected office, but her ads were plastered on the tv every hour of every day and she won the primary.

        • 17 Don
          May 9, 2016 at 8:47 am

Yep, that sounds like Rendell sure enough.

        • May 9, 2016 at 9:28 am

it was not ads alone…it was a combo of the President’s endorsement and Sanders acting the fool…Dems lined up…(unsusal ..but it happens)….

I heard a radio show after the PA primary from an leftwing progressive and they said all of the establishment which is anti-Sanders including President Obama’s endorsement turned this election for her.

    • May 9, 2016 at 9:25 am

      Just ask Joe Sestak….

      yeahhhh..

speaking of Sestak..is he going to support McGinty…..

Hillary has closed the gap in WV. This is significant – BS was polling 20, 30 points ahead of her (by promising coal jobs?!?! I thought he was the one who was going to end fossil fuels by Executive fiat. But I digress). She has closed the gap to within MOE. If she can keep it 10, even 15 points, he has lost his bragging rights. But we’ll see. This is the first time we’re seeing polling move in her direction in a primary state, now that – hopefully – Americans are realizing what a jerk he is.

But who knows? It’s been a roller coaster, this primary. I’m so tired of it.

Just found out yesterday Bernie will be here in Missoula. I think he will win Montana too, same time as California but we only have 21 delegates I just am tired of all those who still think he has a chance and who talk about fraud, etc. They don’t remember 2008, it was so much closer and Hillary won several states after she knew she couldn’t win.

I also have a huge problem with Ed Rendell.

If you want a little fun light reading this morning, try reading up on the ways Marie Antoinette tried to make herself beautiful. Her annual clothes budget was the equivalent of $4 million and she never wore anything twice. Every day she put some glop made with “pigeon juice” to keep her complexion young. It’s no wonder she ticked off the ‘peasants.”

I think I felt what the peasants felt about the royalty when I saw the Carriage House at Versailles. When they showed the miniature gold carriages that used peasant children as drivers and footmen to transport the Royals’ children around in, it was almost too much to bear, not unlike our own slavery history.

He’s a mess. Just like the Republican Party. The more he talks, the more he shows what he doesn’t know. The more petty and vindictive he shows he is….he will be his own undoing. I hope for total humiliation on the world stage.

          // …………………………

The important thing to realize, then, is that when Mr. Trump talks nonsense, he’s usually just offering a bombastic version of a position that’s widespread in his party. In fact, it’s remarkable how many ridiculous Trumpisms were previously espoused by Mitt Romney in 2012, from his claim that the true unemployment rate vastly exceeds official figures to his claim that he can bring prosperity by starting a trade war with China.

None of this should be taken as an excuse for Mr. Trump. He really is frighteningly uninformed; worse, he doesn’t appear to know what he doesn’t know. The point, instead, is that his blithe lack of knowledge largely follows from the know-nothing attitudes of the party he now leads.

Hard to believe this ……. in America! I didn’t use the tweet because the picture of the candidates’s beaten face is not a pretty sight.

A Democratic candidate for the West Virginia state Senate was brutally attacked at a political cookout just two days before the state’s primary in an attack his family believes was politically motivated, WSAZ reported.

Richard Ojeda suffered eight facial fractures, severe swelling, and a concussion after suspect Jonathan Porter allegedly showed up to a Sunday cookout uninvited, according to the report.

Porter allegedly asked Ojeda, a military veteran, for help putting a bumper sticker on his car and started beating him with brass knuckles when he bent down to help, the local station reported. Witnesses told police the suspect also tried to run Ojeda over with his car while trying to flee the scene.

Porter turned himself into police about six hours later and was charged with felony destruction of property, malicious assault and attempt to commit a felony, according to WSAZ.

After the attack, Ojeda posted a photo of his battered face from the hospital on Facebook, and said he believes the attack was planned.

I think she also gotten her confidence over the years, and if she was halfway interested in politics, she could be a Senator then maybe President. But she has said so many times that politics were not for her and I don’t blame her. Love our First Lady.

        GM Meta.

Must watch video — the rapport between Prince Harry and @FLOTUS is unmistakable, and puts to rest any speculation that there is ANY tension whatsoever between the Royal Family and our beloved First Family (i.e., ridiculous Drudge-fueled frenzy about Churchill bust).

Looking forward to Michelle, Jill and Harry’s #JoiningForces collaboration after Jan 2017.

        @FLOTUS in the video:
“I have to say that the most precious thing, if you haven’t already fallen in love with him [Prince Harry], is to see him with his nephew.”

        • May 9, 2016 at 11:38 am

Yes, I just loved how playful they are with each other but also how strong their support is for each other. Lots of affection and respect there. Great buddies! And Harry’s attempt to do an imitation of POTUS was hysterical!

        • May 9, 2016 at 11:41 am
