It is stone-cold stupid for the GOP in Congress to ignore the critical need to fund this legislation. Southern states will be affected by Zika first. Climate change will exacerbate the spread of mosquitoes, and costs of dealing with brain-damaged babies will extend for their whole lives. Pay now or pay much more later, especially because these same legislators want to get rid of Planned Parenthood and force women to give birth.

Paul Ryan and Donald Trump finally met. And decided to have more meetings.

The highly anticipated summit between the House speaker — the top Republican elected official in the country —and the GOP’s presumptive presidential nominee produced a media frenzy, but yielded little in the way of tangible results.

As expected, Ryan didn’t endorse Trump. It’s also clear they still have significant policy differences. But for now, the two are trying to display unity as they prepare for a fall battle with Hillary Clinton and the Democrats. With Republican control of the Senate on the line, as well as fears that Democrats could make big inroads into the House Republican majority – much less the battle for the White House – the stakes for both men are huge, and they need to find some means to cooperate. Or at least look like they can.

They don’t have policy differences – Ryan prefers to bring in the policies via backdoor means – added to other legislation – Trump just says up front what he will do. Both are variations of the same sleaze.

        45% Toomey/44% McGinty

The most recent poll showed respondents favored Toomey, a former banker, by a 45-44 margin over the former aide to Bill Clinton and Tom Wolf.

Pf, it will not surprise you to learn that Chuck Schumer is prepared to put ANY amount of money needed into Pennsylvania to ensure that his hand-picked Senate candidate wins. My concern is that McGinty is very weak on foreign policy and will need to learn this subject very quickly or she will stumble in the debates.

Thank you for this article. I was reading in the Japanese edition.
I am slightly disappointed because PBO is not making a major speech in Hiroshima.

Yes, I agree with you after all.
It’ll be an amazing moment of healing for the people of the world to see him in front of the memorial arch in the Heiwa(peace) Park.
I, just like others in Hiroshima, stood in front of it so many times. Yet, we never imagined to see an American president laying a wreath there…
What a wonderful world of hope we are living in despite of all the sufferings. Amazing Grace !

I do plan to vote for Hillary enthusiastically, but I do miss the excitement of 2008 when then Senator Obama and Senator Biden and Senator Clinton were battling it out at the debates. I’m not a sentimental type of guy, but I do miss 2008 and the night he was elected. I was in the bedroom all by myself and my wife and kid and mother-in-law were in the living room, it was a beautiful night. I also remember a young Bill Clinton getting sworn in and Hillary and Chelsea standing by his side.

Because he talks to black people like he has all the sense in the world and we don’t have any sense at all. He talks to African Americans like he knows what’s best for us. Hillary is the opposite, we might not agree with everything she says, but she talks to us like we have sense.

Does he talk to anyone? He talks at people, not with people. He is only comfortable with a large mob. He has not once engaged personally with a voter, with empathy on a personal level. He is despicable and never should be where he is. His entire career is a complete fraud.

Thirteen-year-old Columbus artist paints portrait for Michelle Obama

Barbara “B.J.” Joy Tillman features Obama girls in her painting

The gift was presented at the annual First Lady’s Luncheon in Washington

Vivian Creighton-Bishop chaired planning committee displaying Georgia talent

      ……………………………..

Thirteen-year-old Barbara Joy “B.J.” Tillman has always admired the nation’s first family, hoping to meet Michelle Obama and her two daughters some day.

On Thursday, she got at least part of her wish as the commissioned artist for a gift that she presented to Mrs. Obama at the First Lady’s Luncheon in Washington. The 11×24 painting is an acrylic, brown-shaded, free-style rendering of Malia and Sasha Obama in their toddler years, a memory B.J. knew their mother would always cherish.

“She’s a very good role model and I just love everything she does,” B.J. said before leaving Columbus with her mother and grandmother for the big event. “And she’s a great mother.”

B.J., who celebrates her 13th birthday Friday, is the daughter of Dr. Chip Tillman, a local physician, and Audrey Boone Tillman, executive vice president and general counsel at Aflac. She is a seventh-grader at St. Luke School, and already an accomplished local artist who has painted projects for various churches and organizations.

The painting of the Obama girls was commissioned by The Congressional Club, which consists of the spouses of members of Congress, heads of state and former first ladies. The group coordinates the annual First Lady’s Luncheon, and this year’s event was chaired by Muscogee County Municipal Court Clerk Vivian Creighton-Bishop, the wife of Congressman Sanford Bishop. About 1,850 people were expected to attend.
      ………………………

B.J. said it has been an unbelievable experience, and she’s feels blessed to have painted Malia and Shasha, who she considers role models.

“I really like their style, being an artist and all, and I really like their fashion, too,” she said.

Audrey Tillman said B.J. discovered her talent at about 5 or 6 years old, while attending an art camp at Columbus State University. The instructor noticed that she had a gift for drawing portraits, which led to private art lessons with Mark Lucas, a local portraiture specialist.

The little girl from our area who was taken by her uncle last week has been found safe!!!!!! God is good. Found in a VERY remote area approximately 13 miles from the area where she was from.

      • May 12, 2016 at 6:33 pm

Here’s the thing. I have to say this here or I’m going to explode because I’m not going to say it to my husband. EVERY time something like this happens (and especially in a very red/Republican area), I hear in my head: “We don’t need no stinkin’ government.” “Government is bad.” “Government can’t do anything and/or do anything right.” Just heard a press conference and all the groups thanked: FBI, TBI, the county sheriff’s dept., the local police dept., the EMS. Stressed how they all worked together and couldn’t have done this without all of them. Yet, it’s the large majority of people in that area who will vote R regardless. They never use any critical thinking when things like this happen and stop to THINK how important government, at every level, is in their everyday lives.

btw, it was two private citizens on four wheelers who found her. The area was so remote, that’s what it took. NO idea how the man got the van they were in back into the woods where they were found.

        • 104 vcprezofan2
          May 12, 2016 at 6:59 pm

In this instance maybe it’s as well not to say anything at home, TnMG. The fact that she was found by ‘two private citizens’ would likely give your husband enough of a talking point for him to overlook the governmental assistance in posting amber alerts, description, etc.

          • May 12, 2016 at 7:26 pm

Yep. True, but as I said, it’s everytime these things occur and government at all levels are so needed and appreciated. Then, those same people neer put two and two together when they are bad-mouthing government and complaining about paying taxes. Drives me crazy.

            • 106 99ts
              May 12, 2016 at 8:00 pm

Every time someone complains to me about taxes – I repeat my mother’s words “I wish I paid more taxes”. If I paid more, I would be earning more. If I paid more, we would have better services – roads, public transport, safety nets for the bad times, better schools etc etc . If I paid more I have more rights to discuss how our government spends.

So many who complain about taxes pay little or none – at the other end of the scale the taxes the rich pay are a minimal part of their expenditure. I laugh at my family friends when they complain about taxes.

I do complain about the fact that many of our services that used to be provided by government – power, phone, gas, toll roads – have MASSIVELY increased in price since that wonderful private enterprise took them over.

                Hi 99ts,

Best quote I have ever heard about taxes is that they are simply the dues you pay for belonging to the club called the United States of America. And just like any club, you pay the dues, and sometimes additional supplements, to maintain the clubhouse, pay the staff, maintain the tennis or basketball courts, the pool, the golf course, whatever. Or in the case of the Club USA it would be the roads, schools, public safety, military, libraries, paramedics, airwaves, and so much more.

So since these Bernbots, GOPers, and others proclaim long and loud how much they love this club called America, they need to just shut up and pay their dues.
