Proud of our President wherever he goes! Thanks for taking us along, Nerdy! I have yet to visit Vietnam, but my husband has gone on two Project Uplift service trips to help build primary schools around Da Nang. His experience was that the Vietnamese people have recovered emotionally from the awful war there much better than Americans and are eager to welcome us as tourists, trade with us, etc.

Thanks! Great photos! I’m of the Vietnam war generation, was lucky enough to get a good number in the lottery in Dec. ’69 so I didn’t get drafted. I could never have imagined that this day would come.

Good afternoon/evening TOD! Thank you, Nerdy & Chips, for taking us along on the President’s overseas trip to Vietnam and then Japan. No where on TV do we get as much coverage of the President than right here. You have my deepest gratitude.

I was just another reporter sent to cover radicalization in Minneapolis. Then 2 local Somalis took me on a tour
    May 22, 2016

It wasn’t hard to see who the outsiders in the courtroom seemed to be. All the jurors were white, the prosecutors white, the FBI agents white. Most of the reporters were white, including me.

    Mohamed … Abdihamid … Farah.
    Adbirahman … Yasin… Daud.
    Guled … Ali… Omar.

U.S. District Judge Michael J. Davis struggled as he announced the three Somali American defendants’ full names, pronouncing them phonetically from a criminal indictment as if he were a student of a new language.

Last week, opening arguments began in downtown Minneapolis in the trial of three local young men charged with plotting to travel to Syria and fight for the Islamic State, and I felt as if I was missing the full picture.

These weren’t foreigners, strangers, outsiders. These were hometown kids who went to local schools, now young men in their early 20s.

IMO, these folks who says that they will vote for Trump, are the non-voters who will sit at home no matter who the nominee is. Obviously, they are not serious about Bernie’s causes. They are the “band wagon” supporters who love being part of a crowd.

    GE TODville.

Don’t know whether there’s been much discussion about the new polls out today (which have gotten lots of MSM coverage), but as we know, these polls are meaningless now — and Sanders isn’t helping.

Yes, but did you see the heading of the article just above the one announcing his 3 day visit? It says nearly 98.77% of the nation turned out to vote in their national general election!!! 98.77%!! That puts us Americans to shame.

    Hi TOD,

I need your help getting the BBC to make their documentary on President Obama available for Americans to purchase.

Some of you have seen the BBC four part series Inside Obama’s White House. I caught the first three on YouTube and was waiting to watch the 4th, but they have been taken down (they were not officially uploaded). I, like many of you I’m guessing, would be willing to buy them on DVD, but they are not available yet.

Here is the link to the contact page for BBC. I have pasted the request that I just sent them below, as an example. If enough of us TODers flood them with requests, maybe they will make the series available for purchase on DVD and download for the US market:

    http://shop.bbc.com/us/other/contact-us/page/contactus

    Dear BBC,

I live in the United States (California). I recently saw your excellent documentary series Inside Obama’s White House. I know it’s not officially available to watch here in the States, but I am interested in purchasing multiple DVD copies of the 4 part series for friends and family as Holiday gifts this year. Are you planning on producing DVDs for sale to the US market? If not, please consider doing this. I know many people, besides myself, who would be very interested in purchasing copies. They would be a best seller, I’m sure! I also believe every elementary school should view this series. It is a wonderful lesson in history and in how our government functions that is riveting to watch. I thank you for producing it and hope you will make it available to us here in the States.

    Thank you,

Obama is in demand, but the First Lady is also a big draw. Michelle Obama is more and more emerging as a big player in the Democratic plans. Big role for the First Lady is plan at the DNC Convention in Philly, primetime speaking appearance plan for the First Lady. Judy Pace of the AP said there is also high demand for First Lady from Democratic candidates looking to raise money. She is quite an effective campaigner particularly with African Americans and young women.

    • May 22, 2016 at 9:32 pm

I think FLOTUS might get out there and campaign like she did in 2012, because it’s all about POTUS legacy and no one want Trump to win. So I have a feeling the Obamas will both be campaigning, doing what they can for our country.

O/T, but about PBO’s visit to Hiroshima on Friday.

A (non-US) poll of “hibakusha” (survivors of the atomic bombings) taken before PBO’s visit was announced on May 10:

    • May 22, 2016 at 10:16 pm

People take polls for every dam things. All of a sudden the media here are trying make this campaign close between Hillary and Trump. Every poll have it close now.

      • May 22, 2016 at 10:42 pm

Sound like 2012. I had enough of polls back then, because most of them were full of alot of B.S.

      • 84 arapaho415
        May 22, 2016 at 11:08 pm

        GE annieb.

IMHO, this is different than the polls taken about an election, which are basically random calls to people who choose to answer landline calls from an unknown number.

This survey was taken with some of the only people on the face of the earth who survived the detonation of atomic bombs which killed over 200,000 people, some instantly, others by lingering, painful radiation poisoning.

I think the world deserves to know the opinion of these survivors, since the event happened over 70 years ago. Time is dwindling for the world to hear from them.

So I don’t begrudge Kyodo News in reaching out to these survivors; instead I am grateful that these survivors are still alive to share their experiences and insight gleaned from a long life marred by unimaginable horror.

“All of which is to say this: as we approach the general election, those who want to help their candidate win in November should probably spend a lot less time arguing with other people in online forums or obsessing over television ads, and a lot more time making calls and knocking on doors. That’s where this very ugly game is going to be won and lost.”

Playing False Equivalence Between Hillary and Donald Is Actively Campaigning for Him
    By Peter Daou
    May 22, 2016
The false equivalence between Donald and Hillary is one of the most nefarious media deceptions we’ve ever seen. Don’t fall for it. Donald is disliked because he lies to people, Hillary because she is lied about.
