    Good morning everyone!
The Guardian newspaper’s Peter Souza: photographing the real Barack Obama was shared by more than 101k people over the weekend.
I’m a reader of the Guardian for many years, but have never seen such a high volume of sharing of one article before.

Good morning Ms. Chips, Danny and TOD family, I hope all is well with everyone this lovely Tuesday morning. Congrats rikyrah, on being first this morning.

Thanks Nerdy for opening up TOD’ville this morning as well as all the other wonderful things you do for us. 💐 🙏👏👊👌

To all, I hope you look out for the concerns, needs, and welfare of others today. ❤ ❤ ❤

Morning all and thanks Nerdy for starting up TOD for the day. Hope all is well with Chips and her mom. We are exactly one week from all but one of the final primaries and the conclusion of this endless contest. Hillary will win all her needed delegates when the New Jersey polls close and that will be the end of the Bernie pretense, although not his whining. I suspect that sometime in June, HRC will name her running mate and Democrats had better start lining up to support them.

    • May 31, 2016 at 8:53 am

I have been hearing some talk about Tim Kaine. What do you think of Tim Kaine as Hillary VP?

      • 9 jackiegrumbacher
        May 31, 2016 at 8:59 am

Bella, I’ll support whoever Hillary chooses, but I would be sorry to see a Democrat pulled out of the Senate when she’ll need every one of them. I never thought Kaine had much in the charisma department and his speaking ability is so-so. My wish is that she choose a Latino running mate because that would energize Latino voters and increase turnout, which she’ll need. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

MORNING SMILE….Donald Trump addressed a major gathering of the American Indian Nation. He spoke for almost an hour of his plans for increasing every Native American’s present standard of living. Though vague in detail, he spoke about his ideas for helping his “red brothers and red sisters”.

Afterwards, the Tribes presented him with a plaque inscribed with his new Indian name “Walking Eagle” which he proudly accepted.

After Trump left a news reporter asked the chiefs how they came to select this name, They explained that “Walking Eagle” is a name given to a bird so full of shit it can no longer fly.

Have a great Obama day TODers

Greetings, Anjo. Happy Tuesday to you!

This story did indeed make me smile, but Snopes.com says it’s not true. It’s apparently one of those stories that circulates with a different politician’s name included each time. Apparently there’s been a version with Kerry, Dubya and even Hillary’s name. [I double-checked before passing it on because it seemed somewhat uncharacteristic that the chiefs/a chief would admit this on such an occasion. After all, I would assume that if Trump was there he would only be there as a ‘guest’ of sorts, and I don’t see them showing this disrespect even though he deserves it.]

      Fact Check Politics John Kerry
      FALSE: Walking Eagle
Joke about Native Americans who derisively tagged a pandering U.S. politician with the name Walking Eagle because ‘he’s so full of crap he can’t fly.’
      ……………….
Origins: It was in 2004 that we first encountered Internet versions of this piece about Native Americans tagging a pandering U.S. politician seeking their votes in an upcoming election with the name “Walking Eagle” (or “Running Eagle”) because that’s “the name given to a bird so full of shit it can no longer fly.” This item is simply an old bit of humor that is dusted off and trotted out every election cycle, with the name of current politicians substituted for those referenced in previous versions.

The first online version of this joke we saw targeted Senator John Kerry of Massachusetts, who was then (i.e., in 2004) on the campaign trail as the Democratic presidential nominee. By February 2005 we began seeing a version aimed at incumbent president George W. Bush land in our inbox:

No question, Anjo! {I’m discovering as I age mature that I have an annoying tendency to be too literal. Annoying in part because I realize I’ve so very often told my offspring he’s too literal. :D} Trump is the biggest real…….dipstick …I’ve seen on the campaign trail. And, sadly, he is so conscienceless he’d do harm if he could.

You know, if you aren’t paying attention closely you’d think that Bernie Sanders was really talking about a revolution in its truest form. But Bernie fails to see that the revolution is taking place right before his eyes, but the revolution really began when President Obama got nominated and then subsequently got elected as the first African American President. The revolution bought us the end of DADT and DOMA, and the passing of Obamacare, those things were the byproducts of the revolution. Throughout President Obama’s time in office everything he has done has been revolutionary, and yet Bernie Sanders could not find it in himself to acknowledge President Obama’s accomplishments. Now unless Bernie Sanders has a different definition of revolution, then he is either blind to what a revolution really is or he had no intention of seeking a revolution in the first place.

    GM TODville.

Despite the fact that PBO’s historic visit to Vietnam and Japan happened only last week, its importance seems to have faded with the passage of time (a entire weekend! [snark]).

Hope you don’t mind indulging me for posting several tweets on PBO’s visit to Hiroshima, and about @RepMarkTakano’s CA-41 (Riverside County) personal connection to Hiroshima — if his second cousin (age 83) had not been sick on August 6, 1945, she would not be alive today to tell her story.

Here’s the tweets (a bit out of sequence to fit narrative):

Thank you so much for the information.
In Japan, people are still talking about PBO and his visit of Hiroshima intensely as 96% of the people had a very favorable impression of the whole event( Asahi Network Research). Even Prime minister Abe’s approval rating went up although I’m not so keen about him.
I think it is a good thing to talk about peace & harmony instead of war. Thank you President Obama!

U.S. SUPREME COURT RULES FOR SECOND TIME THAT ALABAMA’S DEATH PENALTY MUST BE RE-EXAMINED
    May 31, 2016

For the second time this month, the United States Supreme Court today granted review, vacated the judgment, and remanded to the state court in the case of an Alabama death row prisoner who challenged his death sentence after the Court struck down an identical death sentencing system in Hurst v. Florida earlier this year.

On January 12, the Supreme Court held in Hurst v. Florida that Florida’s capital sentencing scheme violates the Sixth Amendment’s requirement that a jury, not a judge, must find each fact necessary to impose a sentence of death. Because a Florida jury’s recommendation is only advisory and may be overruled by the trial judge, who alone makes the findings necessary to impose death, the “jury’s mere recommendation is not enough.”

Who needs a ninth Justice on the Supreme Court when all the cases will get kicked backed to the lower courts that most of the time ruled in favor of the Obama administration? Poor, Republicans, even when they win they lose.

    • May 31, 2016 at 12:16 pm

Jojovie, I’m using it to see specialists and receive treatments that are not available at VA hospital — I’m well satisfied! I’m equally satisfied with the care I receive in-house at the VA. Folks complain about VA wait times, however, fail to acknowledge that there can be wait times in civilian medicine. I urgently need a test performed, was going to take two months to get it done at VA; I was authorized to get it at a civilian facility. Guess what — in all of the tri-state (PA-DE-NJ) area, the best appointment I could get on the civilian market was two days before the VA availability! I went with the VA appointment…

She would also make President Barack Obama’s Joining Forces initiative a permanent part of the White House executive office. The campaign, launched in 2011, is designed to raise awareness of military families’ sacrifices and challenges, and has focused in recent years on military spouse unemployment.

Clinton also wants a standing council on service members, veterans and military families to coordinate various agencies’ efforts “to best meet the needs” of those groups. That will include an annual report on “anything from schooling to housing to health care to deployment support.”
