        http://swampland.time.com/2013/10/17/heres-what-the-government-shutdown-cost-the-economy/

        $24 billion.

        That’s according to an estimate from Standard & Poor’s. The financial services company said the shutdown, which ended with a deal late Wednesday night after 16 days, took $24 billion out of the U.S. economy, and reduced projected fourth-quarter GDP growth from 3 percent to 2.4 percent.

        Here’s a breakdown of some of the economic cost by our calculations:

        About $3.1 billion in lost government services, according to the research firm IHS
        $152 million per day in lost travel spending, according to the U.S. Travel Association
        $76 million per day lost because of National Parks being shut down, according to the National Park Service
        $217 million per day in lost federal and contractor wages in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area alone

    I can’t believe the media is showing the Democrats taking over the House of Representatives and not IL Douche. So glad his pack of lies speech was a total black out by the DEMS. They showed he dutifully read from the teleprompter…..wonder what Shame Hannity has to say about that?

    My 2 thoughts about #Brexit:

    – Let the record show that I despise the former mayor of London Boris Johnson =>coz? recalling what he wrote about PBO & now doing his best at fear mongering about how UK has lost its independence …. and all manner of bigoted innuendo he has engaged in;

    – I think that the PM of UK did not have much sleep tonight (uncertain about the future/referendum; he has probably been regretting the decision to call the vote;

    in a few hours we will have some clarity

    • 72 99ts
      June 23, 2016 at 3:00 am

      I doubt he regrets the call linda – if he hadn’t done it he would look just like Paul Ryan – refusing to bring requests to the floor. I think it will fail – just like the Scotland exit.

      I agree with you on Boris – I really liked Ken Livingstone – sad he was replaced by Boris – but now it is even more interesting with their current Mayor. Quite the melting pot of people is London.

          I just can’t believe they will exit – will know in a few hours

          I do remember when they joined the “common market” – Australians thought they had been deserted – a large % of our trade was with the UK. It all worked out in the long term

    The zero-fuel aeroplane, Solar Impulse, has landed in the southern Spanish city of Seville to complete its historic Atlantic crossing.

    Pilot Bertrand Piccard made swift progress over the ocean after leaving New York on Monday.

    The flight was the 15th stage in Solar Impulse’s bid to circumnavigate the globe.

    Mission managers will now plot a route to Abu Dhabi where the venture began in March, 2015.

    The project had hoped to end the Atlantic leg in Paris, to echo the pioneering flight in 1927 of Charles Lindbergh.

    Lindbergh’s Spirit of St Louis aircraft was the first to make the solo crossing.

    Bevin Dis-Kynects Medicaid In Kentucky
    And so seven months after taking office, Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin makes good on his threat to wreck the country’s most successful Medicaid expansion under the ACA and replace it with Indiana’s broken plan where everyone pays a monthly premium for Medicaid “out of dignity”.

    Gov. Matt Bevin announced Wednesday he’s seeking a Medicaid waiver from the federal government.
    If the Medicaid waiver is approved, Bevin said it will result in $2.2 billion in taxpayer savings.
    Bevin announced his “transformative and sustainable program” called Helping to Engage and Achieve Long Term Health, or HEALTH. Under the plan, Kentucky would impose premiums on able-bodied adults from $1 to $15, depending on their income levels.
    Bevin said requiring Medicaid expansion users to pay for their own premiums will give them “dignity and respect.” The program is about teaching people, he said, emphasizing it is a “learning experience.”

    One catch though, for people who have been on Medicaid for “years” it seems that $15 a month may not “fully cover” benefits. Also, it seems that Gov. Bevin will “use health care dollars” to address the state’s opoid addiction epidemic, but he doesn’t say how. On top of that, there are several things that will no longer be covered by HEALTH that Medicaid in Kentucky covers now, like “non-emergency transportation”. Also, Bevin says that the program will go statewide but start as a “trial” in “select counties” first, by which I’m betting he means Fayette and Jefferson counties. You know, Lexington and Louisville. Where those people live.

    That’s how he’ll get away with it with the voters until after he’s up for re-election in 2019.

    Oh, and finally, he’s taking 400,000 hostages.

    Bevin said if the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services does not grant the waiver, he will still move ahead with his plan to repeal Medicaid expansion in the state.

      June 23, 2016 at 6:52 am

      The only way he saves $2.2 billion is by having less people on the program – which of course, is his goal. I gather he is doing what he said he would do – seems some folks keep thinking GOP politicians just couldn’t be that bad – until they are.

    What an emotional day and night! Just watching and listening to John Lewis is like watching greatness. He’s now the moral center of the Congressional Democrats and I believe him when he says he will not stop and will take this up again and again for as long as he has to. I think what the Democrats did today will inspire courage in people at all levels and underscore in the starkest possible terms how important it is to vote for a Democratic House and Senate. Next time the crowds outside will be larger and louder and their voices will be echoed in state capitals across the country.
