Morning all. President Obama, teacher as well as leader, gave us a lesson yesterday. This is how you respond to anyone who tells you that the orange one is tapping a populist core in the American people. Watch, learn and repeat. Stirring hatred and fear of the ‘other’ is neither populism or patriotism. It’s nativism and xenophobia…or something worse… and none of these has ever led to the ‘popular’ good.

      Congrats on the gold Don!
      Morning everyone.
And you are so right jackieg. POTUS is showing us the way to counteract the message of those on the right. Can’t wait to see him on the campaign trail. It will be a thing of beauty.

Indeed JG – this was a thing of beauty to witness…it really was. No wonder the networks hate carrying PBO’s speeches live…because he shows up their crap, and they know it. MSNBC is now the tank for Trump (their little experiment with Bernie failed) – they air all his hate rallies in their entirety, and we all know what Trump is going to say, which is nothing informative about policy, but a bunch of xenophobic, racist, and misogynistic drivel. Yet MSNBC repeatedly carries every single one of Trump’s hate sessions.

Yet they couldn’t be bothered to air PBO’s presser or his parliament speech, or they found a way to cut him off before the entire speech was shown. That’s why I never agreed with people who claimed that this WH was faulty on messaging.

    • June 30, 2016 at 10:36 am

I loved the way President Obama schooled / reminded the lazy azz media on the use of the word “populist”, especially as it relates to #BuffoonDrumpf. Naturally, the worthless media is going to react with contempt, not realizing they’re validating their worthlessness. I’m Just Saying.

I finally saw his address to parliament. Both the President and Prime Minister’s speeches were so beautiful I just felt like crying. We will never see this again. How privilege we are to have the opportunity witness this moment is history that lasted 8 eight years; a mere second in the spanse of human history but those seconds shined most bright in the hearts of those who chose to see it.

How is it possible for me to love this man more than I already do? My heart is just bursting after listening to that. It shows just how offended he is by Trump and how he STILL KEEPS THINGS IN PERSPECTIVE (regarding Sanders) after all the frustrating and maddening stuff he has to deal with day after day. I can’t keep things in perspective after reading one foul Facebook post! I can’t even fathom the depth of his humanity.

Mary, Michelle said that this was his unique strength–always taking the long view, putting things into perspective. You have to have a core of self respect and self knowledge so that you don’t overreact to things around you or take things personally. It’s extraordinarily difficult and I never learned it myself, but I suspect that little Barack learned this from his mom as a survival skill in a difficult world. This is why his enemies can never defeat him–they try every little dirty trick in their books, but he’s not playing their game.

      • June 30, 2016 at 11:08 am

As far as I’m concerned, the man is made up of unique strengths! 😀 But this truly is one that is rare in the world.

  7. June 30, 2016 at 9:02 am

How he has the audacity to call someone “LYIN'” and “CROOKED”…. DECEITFUL, DISHONEST DONALD!!!!

When Donald Trump said last Thursday he was forgiving over $45 million in personal loans he made to his campaign, the announcement drew plenty of coverage. Many even reported Trump’s statement as if the deal was done.

A week later, NBC News has learned the FEC has posted no record of Trump converting his loans to donations. The Trump Campaign has also declined requests to share the legal paperwork required to execute the transaction, though they suggest it has been submitted.

Last week, campaign spokesperson Hope Hicks said Trump was submitting formal paperwork forgiving the loan on Thursday, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Reached by NBC this week, she said the paperwork “will be filed with the next regularly scheduled FEC report,” and declined to provide any documentation.

The delay could matter, because until Trump formally forgives the loans, he maintains the legal option to use new donations to reimburse himself. (He can do so until August, under federal law.)

Everything the orange one does is a con, so why are people surprised when he pulls another one. Telling the truth is alien to this man. To him, lies are truth and truth lies.

      • June 30, 2016 at 9:12 am

…and given his record for paying vendors, the taxpayers in cities where Trump held rallies may be SOL if they are hoping to recoup the cost…

Cities across the U.S. are discovering that a visit from Donald Trump isn’t cheap. The presumptive Republican nominee kicked off his California campaign on April 28 at the Pacific Amphitheatre in the Orange County suburb of Costa Mesa, south of Los Angeles. Anti-Trump protesters outside turned violent, blocking a freeway on-ramp and trying to overturn a police cruiser. The night ended with 17 arrests, five damaged police vehicles—and a $30,000 bill for the city…Officials sent a bill to Trump’s campaign for $15,000 to cover police overtime, hoping to recoup the remaining property damage costs from people who were arrested.

Will Clark, captain of police operations in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, sent the campaign a bill for $4,752 on May 2 to reimburse his department for the overtime and extra staffing after an evening rally in late April … “Obviously, if we don’t receive payment, then it’s going to fall on the taxpayers here,” he says.

Neither Costa Mesa nor Wilkes-Barre has yet been reimbursed. Nor has Eugene, Oregon, which the Associated Press reported has billed the campaign for $92,300 in extra staff costs and overtime for firefighters and police assigned to Trump’s May 6 rally there.

==> There is a formal process for submitting such requests, but campaigns are under no obligation to help cities defray the ancillary costs of hosting campaign events. <==

At Mar-a-Lago, the Palm Beach resort he runs as a club for paying guests and celebrities, Donald Trump had a telephone console installed in his bedroom that acted like a switchboard, connecting to every phone extension on the estate, according to six former workers. Several of them said he used that console to eavesdrop on calls involving staff.

    http://addictinginfo.org/2016/06/29/watch-the-nra-just-got-caught-desecrating-a-national-cemetery-for-political-gain/

Geist is clearly being filmed inside of a national cemetery where filming is prohibited by the Department of Veterans Affairs. In order to film a commercial at such a sacred venue requires permission, which the NRA didn’t bother to seek because they knew they wouldn’t get it. That’s because their campaign ad is obviously partisan and is using the graves of dead soldiers to attack a political opponent.

VA spokesman James Hutton condemned the ad and confirmed that the NRA did not seek nor did they receive permission.

“The National Cemetery Administration of the Department of Veterans Affairs has not received or approved any filming requests of this nature. NCA did not receive a request from the NRA to film the subject advertisement. If we had received such a request, we would have denied it based on the partisan content. Our veterans, their families and survivors are our top priority. To maintain the sanctity and decorum of VA National Cemeteries as national shrines, our filming policy states that filming may not be used for the expression of partisan or political viewpoints, or for uses that are (or may be interpreted as) an endorsement of a commercial entity.”

    http://thinkprogress.org/climate/2016/06/30/3794271/science-groups-climate-change/

In a blunt letter to Congress, 31 leading scientific societies reaffirmed the reality that humans are causing climate change and only we can stop it. “To reduce the risk of the most severe impacts of climate change, greenhouse gas emissions must be substantially reduced,” they write.

logos-climate letter smallYes, this is the umpteenth report from scientists — see, for instance, “Climate Scientists: We’re Alarmed. Here’s Why You Should Be, Too” and “IPCC Scientists Emphasize Immorality Of Inaction By Focusing On ‘Irreversible Impacts’.” Heck, it’s not even the first letter to Congress from most of these groups — 18 of them wrote a similar letter back in 2009.
But as long as the media still gives presidential candidates (and pretty much every other major politician) a free pass on this most preventable of existential threats to America, scientists will have to keep “reminding” policymakers of the broad scientific understanding about human-caused climate change.

    http://www.nytimes.com/1993/05/04/nyregion/trump-in-a-federal-lawsuit-seeks-to-block-indian-casinos.html

TRENTON, April 3— Donald J. Trump, who owns three casinos in Atlantic City, has sued the Federal Government, maintaining that allowing Indian tribes to open casinos discriminates against him.

The Trump lawsuit, filed Friday in Federal District Court in Newark, gives legal voice to fears that growth in legalized gambling threatens New Jersey’s casino monopoly on the East Coast.

The suit’s thrust is that the Federal law that allows Indian casinos, the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act of 1988, violates the Constitution’s Tenth Amendment, which reserves for states all rights not expressly given to the Federal Government. The suit maintains that the law gives an advantage to “a very limited class of citizens,” American Indians, at the expense of other citizens. Outgrowth of ‘Casino Nights’

In filing suit, Mr. Trump took aim at operations such as Connecticut’s hugely successful Foxwoods Casino, which has been drawing capacity crowds since it opened last year.

If I were a logical sort of “connect the dots” person…I would wonder aloud if this has something to do with DT’s open loathing of Senator Warren and her Native American heritage…..this loathing for Native Americans, in general, because they took $$$ away from him! How DARE they!

Or how about male and female millennials? Or gay/straight millennials? Or Muslim/Christian millennials? How much does a lesbian Cuban Catholic female college graduate have in common with a straight white Protestant male non-college graduate? This is what people mean when they talk about “intersectionality” and it is precisely what David Simon was referring to when he wrote about The Death of Normal.
