Thank you, Nerdy, for getting us through this emotional, gut wrenching time. We have to be careful not to fall back into routine and complacency as our President warned, but to persevere and commit to do our small part toward healing this country’s pain.

It’s my youngest daughter’s birthday today as well. She’s got a great job for her. She texted me a picture of her office space that had been decorated with balloons, happy birthday signs and gifts. This has never happened to her before and she was so touched and somewhat overwhelmed. I have been busy preparing a meal (I make a mean chicken pot pie which she loves), birthday cake, 2 trips to grocery store for missing ingredients and I am POOPED. I usually don’t cook anymore (my wonderful hubby does it all). I’m taking a short break, then it’s onto wrapping gifts, icing cake and finishing up the dishes! Having a great day so far.

GGail, I miss you already even though you don’t live that far (only 1-1.5 hours away)! I’d love to come up and visit since I’m off this summer. Say when, and I’ll come up!

Hi Betsy, Happy Birthday to your daughter. I am so glad she enjoys her new job and apparently they like her too. Just think of the joy those many years ago when she was born today.

There was great joy!!! There still is, but have been challenged these past couple of years. We still love her, no matter what. How else could it be for your kids, right?

Let me say this, Chief Brown is one outstanding man. I love the reading of the Stevie Wonder song. And I saw FLOTUS mouthing the words as the Chief spoke the words. Then POTUS had me laughing when he said he was glad he met Michelle first, cause she loves Stevie Wonder.

This is the guy who while handcuffed in court took a bailiff’s gun and shot 4 people; 2 of them died. You may not hear much about it because of the embarrassment related to the guards’ negligence.

I always have my arms around them both, and wings of prayer in my heart, they have given this world so much more than any of us dreamt possible. They have worked through their love for each other, and shown is all the Path into the Future. No turning back now. ❤️❤️

I think thousands like us are lifting him up. I really do. Maybe millions. It might explain his ability to keep moving forward. Love linking those that see him and his vision and want to help in whatever way they can.

I think so too, catrst, and I feel all around the world, our President Obama is the most recognized, admired and loved leader on the planet, embraced for his efforts at world peace by many many millions around the globe. It is exciting as well as hard, but we do live in interesting times, and many of us are awake and consciously connecting on mental and spiritual levels, like never before! ❤️

I am seeing that Hillary is vetting a General for possible VP. Not sure what that would bring to the ticket with her experience of SOS already unless she fears the judgement/Benghazi smear and the current shootings are undermining that strength. I worry that it may work in reverse to confirm those that worry she is a war hawk. What do you here think about a General for VP?

      // ……………………….

But it was Obama who said the things that most needed saying. Words, he warned, are inadequate.

“I’ve seen how inadequate words can be in bringing about lasting change. I’ve seen how inadequate my own words have been,” he said.

He went beyond words, however, when he urged us to confront the racism we too often ignore. It is real, and the protesters like the ones in our streets last Thursday speak from places of pain and desperation. We must hear them even as we honor our police.

That’s what Dallas can do, and the good news is we’ve already begun.

As Obama said: “Weeping may endure for a night but I’m convinced joy comes in the morning.”

The President spoke about decency and I feel compelled to relate this story my sister told me. One afternoon she was driving across the Throgs Neck Bridge to pick up her son from school and the wind was severe, literally bouncing the car about. She slowed down as much as she could and she said she was so frightened and suddenly a container truck pulled up beside her and drove the entire length of the bridge shielding her from the wind. At the end of the bridge he just moved on. There are still good people out there. She could not see the driver because of the height of the truck.

Am I correct in thinking that PBO extended his hand to GWB after his speech but GWB did not return the gesture after PBO spoke? Just asking.

    • 148 jacquelineoboomer
      July 12, 2016 at 9:02 pm

There may have been a tiny glitch, if I’m recalling correctly, but it didn’t seem to be a snub. Seemed to be that GWB hadn’t noticed and possibly was still dancing and laughing (inappropriately) to whatever music he was hearing in his head.

      • July 12, 2016 at 9:04 pm

WELP. I did see VP Joe reach over in front of W and Chief Brown and the Mayor walk over to shake his hand. W seemed to just stand there.

Wondering if something will come out that he’s having a problem. I missed his remarks, but I also wonder how he was when he was reading them.

          • July 12, 2016 at 9:18 pm

TBH, I have nothing but ill feelings about GWB. I sometimes wonder how we all lived through his hideous presidency. Having said that, he came off today as really very strange. A couple of lines in the speech were good, but it was mostly hollow. His delivery, his constant nervous tics, his oddly inappropriate smiles and giggles and jerky body movements, just add up to an odd strangeness. Don’t know how else to describe it.

After seeing the clip on here of GWB’s happy dance behavior and Laura and Michelle’s reactions I also wonder if he may be experiencing physical problems.
