    Good Evening TOD

    • July 17, 2016 at 9:41 pm

Thank you NW for keeping TOD together.
Keeping Chips in our thoughts each day.

Its so sad that our President has to do this actually every week.
Can’t imaging a Donald Trump doing this and trying to keep the country calm.
Even Joe S. tweeted about the President’s speech today.

Too many burdens for one brilliant and caring President to shoulder. WE must help him in every way we can change the ubiquity of guns in our country.

Judith, it makes me sick at heart to think about all the tragedy he as to endure and all the loss and grief he feels called to comfort. We have never asked this of any other president in my memory.

I am with you Judith! This is the time for all of us who support President Obama to speak-up loudly against the right wing inspired gun madness that seems to be engulfing the United States. For example: why in Gods name do we need civilians, including a great many who are untrained on gun safety, to go around in carrying military weapons in cities? We already have the police who also open carry, but who are also trained to provide protection to the people. We must refuse to allow these cowardly punks, openly carrying weapons of war in the streets, to falsely claim that they doing so for self-defense. No! These cowardly “open carry” people are doing so to intimidate people and thus provoke irrational responses.

Evening everyone. Thank you, Nerdy. Once again, he has to speak to this country about senseless violence. Again.

Good evening TOD and Nerdy. Our president needs a break. So looking forward to August when they hopefully can get away from all the stress for a short period. I don’t expect he will do another public memorial in BR but it is hard to see how he avoids meeting with the families.

Given the focus on Cleveland this week, I came across this piece earlier today. It is a very long read, and heart wrenching. Even having been a part of the criminal justice system many decades ago, I could take so much and made it through perhaps half of it before I had to stop. The manipulation to protect officers and disappear this child’s death is breathtaking.

“The Tamir Rice Story: How to Make a Police Shooting Disappear” http://www.gq.com/story/tamir-rice-story

I also read a very interesting piece last night looking at the gender differences in cops who kill. The percentage of women cops who shoot suspects is far below male cops, so much so it does not correlate to their percentage on the various police forces. The author concluded this needed further study but one of the ways violence may be reduced is for forces to more actively recruit women.

Hope everyone has a peaceful evening. I did not watch 60 Minutes, and most likely will not watch the GOP Convention. I can no longer stomach Trump in any form.

why would any sane person would even want to be around these nutz?

Maybe, just maybe the best thing would be if there was a total lack of interest in the GOP conference both inside and outside. If Donald Trump just fizzled out and the GOP policies became known as not viable solutions to anything, but as the problem instead. I know, I know I am being unrealistic. I just do not want violence to occur so the Democrats, AAs, and BLM are blamed and Donald’s message of being the Enforcer and answer to all our problems does not resonate.

The media will continue to hype…

        on my local news….

despite repoting about how there is so much excitement in our area re Republicans and the convention…there are also reports about how area republicans are not going to the convention…interesting contrast…

Investigators found on the body of the dead shooter Gavin Long a card suggesting he was a member of the Washitaw Nation. #BatonRouge

The bizarre story of the Louisiana-based ‘sovereign’ Washitaw Nation might be funny if it weren’t for investigations of its possible financial crimes.

Now that some law enforcement groups and individuals are openly stating their preference against open-carry laws – you can’t tell the good guys from the bad guys – I’m hoping beyond hope that perhaps a national conference could be held QUICKLY, called by the Attorney General. The grassroots Black Lives Matter and other activists could sit down for a week with representatives of the law enforcement community – local, state, and federal – maybe chaired by the AG or even Eric Holder could be brought back by Loretta Lynch to lead it, and work together to come up with a platform that will result in (1) taking down the NRA, (2) suspending all open-carry laws in the country, and (3) re-instituting an assault weapons ban (in whatever order they choose!). Haven’t given this much thought, but all of a sudden, over this last week in particular, I see hope and possibility, of both factions’ – powerful on their own – coming together with vested self-interests and for the good of the country.

It feels like a tipping point toward sanity on guns. As President Obama has said, be a gun sense voter. I think we can take back the Senate. Taking back the House will be much tougher, but let’s try.
