This is as important a speech today as it was then. We have begun this journey and the voices of opposition are louder and more dissident but we are doing what we set out to do. Healing this nation, repairing the world. We can, we are, we will. Its a long and wonderful journey. Each day a renewal of our commitment. We take progress by inches as well as progress by leaps but we will do this. We will redo this. From now on.

He was also going on and on about how well Melania delivered her speech. To me, plagiarism aside, I thought Melania just slowly read her speech without any voice tonal changes or pace changes at all. It was so evident with Michelle and Melania speaking side by side. Sometimes I do not understand Chris Matthews’ analysis.
Joy Reid seemed to be right on with her analysis to me.

I had no intentions of watching however i started listening then left my bed to go watch i finally sat down in disbelief that someone who wants to lead would spout such hate, meanness and downright lying fear and get even one vote; it truly is frightening that America has sunk so low; don’t just vote, campaign, take someone to the polls with you and vote DEMOCRAT all the way

I agree 99ts. He was way too hard on President Obama and let his ego get in the way of recognizing what a great president PBO really has been and still is. I did really like what he said, though.

            July 22, 2016 at 12:29 pm

I am with you on that. I couldn’t watch him anymore because of how he was so insulting to PBO. I still am angry that he never gave President Obama the benefit of the doubt, or appreciated him for the great job he was doing. I hold him responsible, in part, for the disillusion young people felt about President Obama that translated into support for Bernie Sanders. So I’m in agreement with you.

I think we would benefit from a meme that Stewart just introduced. “I see you”. What it means is I see your hypocrisy, I see your meanness of spirit, I see your manipulation, I see your entitlement. I hope he doesn’t mind if I borrow that. I could also apply that to Trump. I see you, Mr. Trump, for the weak, insecure, trouble maker that you are. I see you, Mr Trump, for the thin skinned maniac you are.

From what the journalists have said Trump and Trump Jr have said he plans to run the Presidency like a company where he will farm out most of the job to the appointed VP and his kids. He plans to do the parts of the job he likes. Jr said his Dad would do the part that is Making America Great Again. A new direction towards a Monarchy that ignores the Constitution. He also plans to bring in company heads part time to rewrite laws. Sounds like no taxes, no regulations which is a formula of greater wealth and strength to the 1% and doubling down on what Bush did that got us into a depression.

The NBA basketball league will move its 2017 All-Star game from North Carolina in protest about a state law that it says discriminates against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people.

House Bill 2, or HB2, invalidated several local anti-discrimination measures that protected LGBT people.

The relocation is one of a number of high-profile consequences of the bill, including musicians cancelling gigs.

The NBA said a new location would be announced in the coming weeks.

Brexit causes dramatic drop in UK economy, data suggests.

Britain’s decision to leave the EU has led to a “dramatic deterioration” in economic activity, not seen since the aftermath of the financial crisis.

Data from IHS Markit’s Purchasing Manager’s Index, or PMI, shows a fall to 47.7 in July, the lowest level since April in 2009. A reading below 50 indicates contraction.

Both manufacturing and service sectors saw a decline in output and orders.

However, exports picked up, driven by the weakening of the pound.

The report surveyed more than 650 services companies, from sectors including transport, business services, computing and restaurants.

It asked them: “Is the level of business activity at your company higher, the same or lower than one month ago?”

For manufacturers, it asked whether production had gone up or down.

The PMI is the first significant set of data measuring business reaction to the result of the UK referendum.

This brings back the memories of Stewarts confrontation with the guy from the show I can’t remember, maybe Lumpy, that wore the bow tie and lost his gig sortly afterward. Stewart basically said “I see you” and it was magic. Also remind me of Colbert’s roast of Bush to his face at the correspondents’ dinner.

I’d watch Stewart again if he did this kind of thing.
