Can someone help a sista out?
I have used up my 10 clicks and the NY Times won’t let me read anymore articles, thus, I am unable to read the story about FLOTUS’ dress.
    Help! 😀

Michelle Obama’s Dress May Have Looked Simple, but It Spoke Volumes

Michelle Obama wore a dress by the designer Christian Siriano on Monday at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia. Credit Josh Haner/The New York Times
The first night of the Democratic National Convention on Monday was, rightly, not about the clothes: It was about trying to unify the party, rise above the opponent and so on, as many of my colleagues have described. Which is not to say it lacked a fashion statement or two.

The loudest may have come early in the evening, courtesy of a video starring the economist Austan Goolsbee and the actor Ken Jeong in which Mr. Goolsbee reveals to Mr. Jeong that most of the Donald Trump-branded clothing line is not Made in the U.S.A., but rather in Bangladesh, China, Mexico and other countries (facts that seem to undermine Mr. Trump’s assertion of America First but also seem to have had no impact on his supporters). But the most pointed came, not surprisingly, from Michelle Obama.

Not that you would have known it at first. Like her speech, in which she castigated Mr. Trump without ever saying his name, her dress spoke volumes while appearing, at first glance, to be entirely subdued.

Cobalt blue silk crepe, with cap sleeves, a flared skirt and a neat waist, it was by the designer Christian Siriano, and it pretty much matched the backdrop, playing down Mrs. Obama’s appearance and playing to the patriotic theme, especially when contrasted with the bright red jacket that Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts wore during her speech.

But the simplicity and the color were just the beginning. See, Mr. Siriano is a former reality TV star — the only designer to really have emerged from the television show “Project Runway” (he won the fourth season competition) and carved out a place on the New York Fashion Week scene.

Live From the Democratic National Convention »
Donald Trump makes provocative statements about Russian hacking and Hillary Clinton’s emails.
Tim Kaine goes after Trump on his NATO stance.
Obama will implore voters to elect Clinton and defend his legacy.
But unlike another reality TV star, Mr. Siriano has built his career on being inclusive: on catering to women regardless of size or age.

Most recently, he was, for example, the designer who stepped forward (via Instagram) when Leslie Jones, the late-40-something six-foot-tall star of the movie remake “Ghostbusters,” complained that no designer wanted to dress her, making a custom off-the-shoulder red gown for her premiere that became something of an internet moment. He also has a collaboration with the plus-size store Lane Bryant, for which he held a runway show at the United Nations this year, and has dressed other celebrities, including Kate Hudson and Zendaya.

“I just don’t think anyone should be excluded from having a beautiful dress,” he said to me when we were talking about the Jones brouhaha, and why he had volunteered to play fairy godfather.

Lest you think Mrs. Obama’s wardrobe choice was just happenstance, however, know that the convention appearance was only the second time she has worn Mr. Siriano; the first time was this month, at the funeral for the police officers killed in Dallas.

Throughout her time in the White House, the first lady has made something of a secondary cause out of supporting new, independent American designers, and choosing her clothes not only because she likes them but because their back story has a certain resonance that goes beyond the aesthetic. Monday night was no different. Fashion is not known for its embrace of togetherness (more for its exclusion). But Mr. Siriano is.

      Think that’s just a coincidence?

        yes,,,
i know that many of us have watched the DNC proceedings on TV…i decided to go to a few caucus meeting…that were opened to the public…yesterday…i went to the women’s caucus…had the pleasure of listening to some phenomenal women including Nancy Pelosi…today i went to the black caucus meeting…had the pleasure of listening to Tony West and Eric Holder….phenomenal….

it was spoiled by the Bernie Sanders demonstration i ran into….Bernie owns this …i remember how he kept saying that we are going to take it to the convention….and so they are….only Bernie is not taking responsibility for them…acting like…i tried to tell them…but they won’t listen to me…not my fault….yeahhhh sure Bernie

I suspect that even POTUS was awe-struck by this one, and the overwhelming reaction it generated – and I’m pretty sure he’s aware of the general fabulousness of this great human being with whom he and their girls share their lives. Can any of us think of a single time when this woman appeared in public when she was not amazing, lovable, at ease, gracious, compassionate, brilliantly intelligent, witty, full of energy, and just about any other positive human trait that comes to mind?

Good grief, her presence at the annual arrival of a harvested evergreen at her front door makes even that an event of profound human significance…

The unwavering dignity, humanity, and sheer class of these two has been such a steadying, and relentlessly inspiring, influence over the last seven-plus years – as has this blog, BTW!

What will we do to carry on…?

Well, I am thinking all we can do to carry on is to emulate her, do our best to go high when they go low, hold our heads up and speak through an intelligent Heart center. This is how we may all honor Michelle Obama, and cement her legacy all around the world. Perhaps that would please her more than anything else! ❤️❤️

Well, it is not too hard at this point to understand Trump’s newsmaker this morning. First and foremost, he cannot stand the attention and praise FLOTUS’ speech Monday night generated, versus the plagarism charges that came from Melania’s speech. Second, while the “counted” ratings for the first night of the Dem convention were only 500,000 more than the first night of the GOP convention, last night’s disparity went through the roof–5 MILLION more “counted” viewers, and that doesn’t include cspan, Uverse or online. So today we have this:

“[Obama is] the most ignorant president in our history.”

Does he have any idea how silly he sounds? But he does not dare attack Michelle, so he goes for PBO. We understand you Donald. Keep it up, I predict by October you will have raised PBO’s approval into the 60% range.

    • 55 MightyPamela
      July 27, 2016 at 4:55 pm

Let him set a new all time low – he doesn’t want to be president, he just likes all the attention. He is a very sick person.

This This and This Forfire – he had to get some attention and did it by saying things that would get any democrat checked out in hospital for their sanity

Seems that the DNC has yooooge audiences – man does not like this – waiting for when his polls go down low and lower.

“The president has reshaped the American electorate for Democrats at the national level and has provided a road map for Democrats on the state level,” said White House political director David Simas, as Obama’s convention speech entered the final stages of drafting. “Once you extend the electorate, not only are you extending the people, you are extending the issue set that you can talk about.”

Forget Pence, Putin is Now Trump’s Running Mate
    by Martin Longman
Wed Jul 27th, 2016 at 01:56:58 PM EST

At this point, we don’t know if WikiLeaks is planning on releasing more embarrassing and inconvenient emails or if all the emails that get dumped will be stolen from the Democrats. Perhaps some problematic Republican emails have been pilfered, too. What we do know, though, is that prominent Republicans are setting Hillary Clinton up to take the blame if more evidence of hacking takes place. Here’s RNC Chairman Reince Priebus talking on the Hugh Hewitt radio show:

Asked whether he expected some of Clinton’s personal emails to leak from her server, Priebus said, “Boy, I don’t know.”

“Certainly it seems like we hear these rumors that they have these emails,” he said, referring to hackers. “Quite frankly if it’s national security you don’t want to see that happening. Hillary Clinton put our country at grave risk, and hopefully we don’t get to the point where those are released. But her sloppiness could lead to something very bad.”

Of course, the DNC wasn’t using a server in Hillary Clinton’s house, and there’s no reason to believe that her emails have been hacked by the Russians. According the forensic investigation, there’s no evidence that they were, anyway. But Priebus wanted to blame her “sloppiness” for any future thefts regardless of where they were stolen from.

Reince also made a curious prediction to reporter Andrea Mitchell at the Democratic National Convention on Monday:

Reince said, “I believe that here are more emails coming. I think this is just the beginning. I don’t believe Wikileaks or these folks, whoever they are, simply released the emails all at once without more to come. I think there’s more to come and I think they should be prepared for more excitement in the email world this week.”

Mitchell followed up,”Do you know something about it?”

Priebus denied knowing anything, but speculated on the motives of people that “like to play games” and said usually more do follow.
