    Happy Thursday TODers

I love this man, President Barack Hussein Obama. There will never be another like him, at least not in my life time.

Nerdy, Endless thanks for giving us superb coverage. 🙂

From the bottom of the previous thread:

    Good morning TOD 🙂

What an amazing day it is!!!

BTW, this is going to be a ‘take no prisoners’ campaign by PBO the likes of which have never been seen in the history of US politics.

Don doesn’t have the slightest capacity to realize just how thoroughly he is going to be thrashed.

    Take care everyone … {{{{{Chips}}}}}

And, THANK YOU NW for being such a champion for everyone at TOD ….

Good Thursday, Nerdy…TOD Family. Continued Thanks, Nerdy, for keeping the village going.

We have been preparing ourselves for the end of the Obama presidency. Throughout the year, there have been those of us who have spotlighted the “lasts” of the Barack Obama administration. Some have expressed moments that have brought forth tears.

Last night was that moment for me. Between the end of his speech where, in my mind, he “figuratively” passed the baton, and the point where he and HRC shared a hug…that is where it REALLY clicked. As he walked back and forth across the stage, it seemed to me that he was looking out at the convention delegates/audience and taking a mental snapshot, similar to how stopped to look back at the crowd after one of his inaugurations. His eyes seem to have acknowledged the “Thank You’s” and at the same time mentally say to himself, “This is really it.” THAT was my tears moment. And I thought to myself, this is just a preview of November 8, 2016, once the election results are announced. And more so, January 20, 2017 when the Obama’s leave the White House.

It seems to me that there’s less outrage being expressed and more bewilderment that Trump would do such a thing.

No wonder it seems that he’s not really running for President, but is trying to set himself up as a dictator.

While I get that there are some supporting Trump because, for them, he represents a change from the status quo, but it is scary that people are willing to vote for this dangerous man, someone who will put them in a worse position than where they perceive themselves to be now.

They don’t believe it. They’ve believed all the lies about Democrats for years and they don’t even hear or understand how dangerous their own party has become.

What a night! I’ll not forget it. President Obama said, in the most elegant way possible….”.Donald, you do NOT understand this country, our guiding principles, the Declaration of Independence or the Constitution or the American people.” I LOVED the short bit he did on not being RULED. I doubt that Donald or the diehard Rethugs got it, but there are millions of independents and undecided who knew and will quietly change their minds. He is peerless.

I have noticed a few writers calling him and his speeches “elegant” something we all know. Why has it taken EIGHT years?????

I’m so thankful for these eight years. Noone can ever take that away from us.

Last night I was so overcome that it has taken me a while to process the magnitude of the gifts that were given to us on that stage in Philadelphia. President Obama gave a magnificent speech that will rank beside the great orations of history. It was nothing short of a masterpiece that will be studied by generations as the model of what it means to be persuasive, inspirational and utterly authentic. He brought us back full circle to the young senator from Illinois that we fell in love with in 2004 and carried us through the rich tapestry of the achievements, hopes, setbacks, heartaches and triumphs that have marked his career since that day. He roused every patriotic instinct in us without ever being bombastic and he gave us the great, great compliment of seeing us as his partners in the creation of a better union. At the end, when Hillary entered the stage, I swear I saw a golden baton being offered to her. He has run his heart out, fulfilled our highest expectations, soared higher than any president before him and he was offering her the great, great responsibility of carrying on his legacy.

I’m sure most of us has questioned his sanity.

I wonder if he has multiple personalities or is just a really good con man…or both. Sometimes it seems that he’ll do or say things as one of his personalities and the others have no knowledge or memory or what the other personalities have done. It’s scary that there are people that more than likely think the same but are okay with it.

Pres O has such a brilliant mind and he operates by looking ahead. It has just this minute occurred to me that one of the reasons he passed the baton so sincerely, emotionally and beautifully in **this early segment of the passing lane** is to help #WeThePeople accustom ourselves to the change. As JackieG said above, the President was persuasive, inspirational and utterly authentic. I saw no regrets about leaving on his part, but I also saw a man utterly committed to helping us see and accept our responsibilities as voting citizens.
[This has not been expressed clearly/thoroughly but I’m leaving it as is; I’m off to watch today’s quota of episodes from West Wing – Season 2. Enjoy your Thursday.]

Successfully made the 6:45 train; arrived in Philly 7:21; tried to get a cab, none stopped; as I only had to go 3 blocks west and 5 south, I figured WTF I’ve walked miles before! An hour later, I arrived at the hotel — alligator… mockingbird…

    GM TODville.

What a gift President Obama is to the world — except in the wake of horrific events or tragedies, no political speech — heck, no speech whatsoever — could possibly top last night.

You saw it too — not a dry eye in the house, from those onstage (PBO and HRC) to everyone in attendance (of course excluding Bernouts who have demonstrated that they are far too comfortably elite and privileged to give a fig about anyone else but themselves, definitely weren’t “in the moment” last night):

NCLB posted on overnight thread, but clearly sums up PBO’s speech:

NEW YORK (AP) — Michael Bloomberg, elected mayor of New York City as a Republican, offered a forceful denunciation of fellow New York billionaire Donald Trump on Wednesday at the Democratic convention, describing the GOP presidential nominee as a “risky, reckless, and radical choice.”

One of the nation’s richest men, Bloomberg drew upon his business background in his unorthodox convention speech to make the case that a Trump administration would be disastrous for the nation’s economy.

“Trump has left behind a well-documented record of bankruptcies and thousands of lawsuits and angry shareholders and contractors who feel cheated and disillusioned customers who feel ripped off,” said Bloomberg, now an independent. “Trump says he wants to run the nation like he’s run his business. God help us.”

“Truth be told,” said Bloomberg, “the richest thing about Donald Trump is his hypocrisy.”

The North Carolina Republican Party published a tweet on Wednesday criticizing vice presidential candidate Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA) for wearing a “Honduras flag pin” during his Democratic convention speech, calling it “shameful” that he would wear another country’s flag without a pin representing America.

But there was one glaring problem with the North Carolina GOP’s attack: Kaine was actually wearing a pin bearing the symbol for Blue Star Families, a group for families with members who serve in the military. Kaine’s son Nathaniel Kaine serves in the Marines and was recently deployed to Eastern Europe.

    …..

Of course they don’t know the difference. They are FAKE supporters of the military…

The beauty of last night is still with us. I for one plan on keeping that spirit and love with me. When I think about not seeing The Obama’s and the Biden’s together as we have over the last 8 years, it makes me sad. But I take heart knowing that we watched a true, deep and lasting friendship develop. We know this isn’t always the case between Presidents and VP’s. Their entire families love one another.

All credit to the President for selecting a VP that he knew would not be a yes man and respected him enough give it to him straight. I wonder if he knew what a friend he would become to him. I also wonder if he perhaps felt that same spirit from him that he felt from his grandfather. Anyway, I’m gonna start blubbering. What a joy, what a privilege it’s been to take this ride with them.

    http://washingtonmonthly.com/2016/07/28/the-russians-are-bullying-our-diplomats-too-heres-how-to-stop-it/

The official harassment of U.S. diplomats has increased dramatically. Diplomats report harrowing tales of being shoved, having their children followed, their homes ransacked and dog feces smeared on their door knobs.

The Post further reports incidents recently involving home intrusions – including defecation on one family’s carpet, slashed tires and intimidation by Russian traffic police. A U.S. defense attaché’s dog was killed while he was away. Former U.S. ambassador Michael McFaul was incessantly hounded by ostensible Russian TV crews badgering him with belligerent statements. His children were followed by Russian security personnel. McFaul, who actively promoted human rights, was particularly singled out during his two years in Moscow. Now back at Stanford, Moscow continues to deride him. “We remember his professional incompetence. McFaul’s diplomatic mission fell through with a crash,” said Russia’s Foreign Ministry spokeswoman with undiplomatic bluntness. Not missing a beat, McFaul shot back in a tweet: “Why is she so obsessed with me?”

The official harassment has increased dramatically since the U.S. and its allies imposed sanctions against Russia following its aggression against Ukraine and 2014 takeover of Crimea. Moscow, in fact, makes no bones about its actions. “Diplomacy is based on reciprocity. The more the U.S. damages relations, the harder it will be for U.S. diplomats to work in Russia,” the Foreign Ministry spokeswoman tweeted.

The applications filed this month claim there aren’t enough Americans available to do the work. But officials at a career services agency in the area say that Trump’s claims are untrue. One such official told BuzzFeed that he had “hundreds of people in our database that would qualify for a lot of those hospitality jobs” and a database with the names of 1,327 Palm Beach County residents looking for such positions.”

It’s sad how many have the same bias towards Hillary. When you ask them why, their answer is typically the negative, general talking points they get from the MSM. They never hear all the positives about her…many that even I’ve been learning in the weeks since she became the presumptive nominee and even more so during the convention.

I guess there is “Black Privilege” as well. The privilege of being an AA born after those that paved the way for you and your parents to succeed that you have no clue or obligation to consider what they went through or care once you have also succeeded.

…….or until a police officer doesn’t care who your are and calls you the “N” word then you realize all your money and success doesn’t make a difference, please see O.J. and Michael Jackson.
