Remembering those young ladies when President Obama came into office. Ten and seven years old, now look at them, not only is POTUS and FLOTUS are proud of them so are we.

  8. August 7, 2016 at 8:50 am

I still don’t understand? The plane carrying the us hostages back from Iran was in January. The 400 million dollars was a cash payment held from Iran from b4 1979 Iran revolution- frozen assets it was the money of Iran.
How does the media/right wing say then this was quid pro quo?

    It doesn’t even make sense?

    • 16 Don
      August 7, 2016 at 8:57 am

It makes perfect sense to them, the dates are inconsequential. Think of it as a three-legged stool in which you sit on, Iran and hostages, and money. Those are the three legs.

    • August 7, 2016 at 8:59 am

All they need to do is go back and look for the announcement in January to confirm. Lazy MSM would rather manufacture an issue for a news cycle.

As if what the rethugs and their media minions do or say ever made sense.

    • August 7, 2016 at 9:22 am

jojovie131, I think the media knows, but to them they are harping on what it might look like to people, not what it really is. The Republicans is just trying to use this as a political story to help them win. The Republicans, the Democrats, the media knew about this in January. There was no story in January, there is no story now. Didn’t this story come from the WSJ, right wing leaning paper. It was Iran money, were Iran was in court trying to get their money back, because they didn’t get the weapons they had paid for, if they had won in court Iran stood a chance of getting more then what they got. It’s the media and Republicans trying to make a story were their is none.

      GM Jovie.

The reason this #Benghazi!-like story doesn’t make sense to anyone who does not have ODS is because you need to think like RWNJs, which this Administration does — will attempt to capture the WHPB this week where Josh Earnest tied those who believe/are pushing this story are taking the side of Iranian RWNJ hardliners.

Example of *why* those with ODS don’t believe the Obama Administration but *do* believe propagandists from an “Axis of Evil” country:

This is who the GOP are now, with DJT as their leader.

Yet MSM cling to the notion of GOP as “patriots” who value the Founding Fathers and the U.S. Constitution.

      • August 7, 2016 at 11:14 am

arapaho, thanks for sharing that tweet. Reckless GOP/Republicans adopted a strategy back in the early 90’s known as “The Orwellian Mis-Direct”. Which, means – Accuse your opponent of the very thing you are doing”.

This has worked in the past, because Repub/Conservatives have a very effective mis-information machine (i.e., FauxNews, Conservative Talk Radio, etc) and a complicit Beltway-Media-Echo-Chamber. The advent of Social Media has significantly reduced “The Orwellian Mis-Direct” impact.

  15. August 7, 2016 at 9:38 am

I keep seeing posts and hearing comments questioning why HRC cannot put the emails to rest. Why does it continue to be an issue for her? Why does it seem that each time she responds to questions about the email, it seems to raise more questions; just doesn’t make the “issue” go away? You would think that HRC and her campaign, as politically savvy and as intelligent as they are, would have come up with *something* that would effectively make the emails a continued problem for her campaign.

FBI Director Comey, in my opinion, made statements at various points of the investigation/briefing that are in some cases contradictory (in some cases inappropriate and unnecessary as part of his report). Of course, the only statements being highlighted are the ones most negative to HRC.

So I’m asking, what *exactly* should/could HRC do or say that will put her problems with the emails to bed? That will take he wind out of the GOP/MSM sails?

    • 35 jackiegrumbacher
      August 7, 2016 at 9:41 am

Nothing will help, SW, because it’s the only negative thing they have to say about her since Benghazi fizzled and they will say it everyday to create a horse race.

      • August 7, 2016 at 9:50 am

I agree, JackieG. It’s only an “issue” to the GOP — originally to hurt HRC’s chances as a nominee and now to take attention away from the insanity in their party — and to the MSM who like to maintain the perception of drama.

But I keep hearing the question of why she can’t put it to bed as if there is something *specific* she can do or say that will alleviate questions about the email. If there is, I’d like for someone to tell me.

    • August 7, 2016 at 9:47 am

This is what she should say? I messed up I won’t do it again. Period..
Any other answer makes her seem like she’s hiding something abd appear she is guilty of something.

Jovie, I have actually heard her say that many, many times. It doesn’t matter what she says because the media and her critics refuse to hear her. They will not accept ANYTHING she says because it doesn’t suit their purposes.

        • 40 carolyn
          August 7, 2016 at 9:57 am

Yes, no matter what she says, or how many times, she repeats it, they won’t leave it alone. We are seeing the famous double standard applied to her, as it was to PBO. This has been happening to her since 1992. How she has kept at it is beyond me. They have nothing, so they have to keep harping, and some people will believe this is a problem. Never mind Trump consorting with Putin…..email is the most important thing…..GAG!

      • August 7, 2016 at 9:58 am

Keeping in mind she is held to a higher standard than most others, would she even be able to get away with simply making *that* statement (which she has) as others would be allowed to do with no push back?

Put out a statement on her website explaining away whatever she wants to explain away and tell the media mofos, go, take a look at my website for all your ‘answers’, not taking any more questions. Repeat it every time when these corrupt clowns ask it without flinching and say it to mean I got no more fucks to give. Basically she should make it clear the voters have only one choice, her. HRC should say the story is over; the FBI has cleared her of wrongdoing and the AG supports the FBI and ask why aren’t they asking Donald Trump about his tax returns; why aren’t they asking her about her plans to help Americans get better jobs and pay; why aren’t they asking her what she’s going to do about improving and expanding health care, ….. turn it on them and their deplorable journalism.

Unreal – he is going to get Hillary a dem senate & possibly the house – yet the dems fell away when he needed them the most.

      • August 7, 2016 at 10:25 am

I have long said it wasn’t just the GOP who were obstructive. There were Democrats who did not think it was PBO’s “turn” (and many who held some of the racists attitudes that the GOP was openly displaying), and through their passiveness were just as obstructive.

Given the current state of their party, I wonder if Republicans will be more cooperative with a President Clinton — at least initially — as they try to rebuild their party.

        • 53 99ts
          August 7, 2016 at 10:33 am

I would say no – reading somewhere that the TP team are going to remove Paul Ryan as speaker if the GOP retains the house – they are blaming him for Huelskamp being defeated in the primary. Republicans believe they have a divine right to rule – regardless of their disarray – hence they are supporting Trump – anyone but a democrat.

          GM swbluega.

Yes, I am still infuriated at the way the DNC and cowardly Dems like Alison Grimes in KY ran away from PBO in 2014.

So much disrespect by his own party for the best politician in our lifetimes.

All of TODville was in shocked disbelief when we lost the Senate in 2014, but PBO uplifted us with his pep talk — just the sheer beauty of his words, the calming effect, no rancor.

Merrick Garland would be a Supreme Court justice now if Dems had some courage in 2014.

        • 56 Obama Grandmama
          August 7, 2016 at 12:49 pm

I am thinking that the GOP was emboldened to go beyond where they had ever been before when PBO became President because of his race. I also think if HRC wins they will continue and maybe even escalate their tactics because she is a woman. They have lost any conscience they may have ever had. Their tactics have unfortunately worked with their base and have been softened and legitimized and made acceptable by the partisan press. My fear is that now this GOP behavior has been in place it will only worsen no matter the race or sex of the Democratic politician.

          • August 7, 2016 at 12:52 pm

Question: Is it getting worse or are more people being more open/blatant about it?

The latter, swbluega. They don’t care to hide it any more. DT has given them permission not to. No need for dog whistles. Just say it flat out, exactly what they mean.

I can reportsome first hand experience with both of those attitudes in my locality from Dem voters. They also sometimes behave like they have learned helplessness and are not really prepared to win locally. Like they aren’t sure what they want. They were angry about the ACA because they felt it hurt their miniscule chances of carrying their elections at the largesse of the local GOP. I often felt like I lived in a separate reality as an Obama volunteer. I respect the hard work and perseverance that they have demonstrated. No flash in the pan stuff for those diehard local Dems. Though I have grown to deeply respect and admire them I also would sometimes like to give them some tough love or stage an intervention.

Today is the birthday of Dr. Ralph Bunch, one of my childhood heroes. Dr. Bunch was a Nobel prize winner and went on to serve with the United Nations as one of its greatest diplomats, working to negotiate peace in the Middle East and in Africa. In high school I became fascinated by the United Nations, learned everything I could about it, visited the headquarters many times and even formed a United Nations Club in my high school. The work of Ralph Bunch helped established the UN’s reputation as an important peace keeping force in the world in its early decades. As a teenager, I thought he was an amazing and inspiring man and I still do. Even the front page of Daily Kos today highlights his achievements.

Bunche’s biography presents a man dedicated to peace. Reading it also reminded me that so many people have tried to help the Middle East broker peace without lasting success. Makes me wonder again if ME leaders don’t actually like the status quo.

It’s funny how the right wing can talk about the cost of the Obamas vacations, how much it is costing the taxpayers? But the House and Senate went on vacation in July and how much is that costing the taxpayers? They are still getting paid. The Republicans have been on vacation for seven and a half years, getting paid for not doing a dam thing, but filibustering, obstruction, sabotage, whatever they could to make this President look like a failure, but the haters have fail. .

Yep, the Republican Congress’ 7+ years of vacation really annoy me. That Repubs can loudly and boastfully declare they won’t work, then follow through on that and still get paid without any consequences boggle my mind! there is absolutely NOTHING that’s being revealed that would make me say..
    REALLY? REALLY?

EVERYTHING that’s being revealed is EXACTLY WHO we thought Ailes was…and EXACTLY what we thought Fox Noise was.

    NOTHING is surprising.

    …………………………………………………………………..

Roger Ailes Used Fox News Budget to Finance ‘Black Room’ Campaigns Against His Enemies

Ailes Used Fox Budget to Run Campaigns Against Enemies
    August 7, 2016

Gabriel Sherman: “As Rupert Murdoch seeks to stabilize Fox News in the wake of Roger Ailes’s ouster, a crucial question remains unanswered: How was Ailes able to spend millions of dollars to settle sexual harassment claims without it setting off alarm bells?”

“But with Ailes gone, Fox executives are now looking closely at how Ailes spent Fox money. And what they are discovering is that, beyond the sexual harassment claims, Ailes was also able to use portions of the Fox budget to hire consultants, political operatives, and private detectives that reported only to him… Last week, according to the source, Fox News dismissed five consultants whom Ailes had hired to do work that was more about advancing his own agenda than Fox’s.”

Hi Gail, I’m in Orange County. I plan on campaigning and calling at at call center after labor day. How do you find the attitudes of people you call? I campaigned both times for the President and really enjoyed it. I’m wondering if the attitude will be worse because Hillary is a woman?

I posted a reply, so I hope it doesn’t show up twice. I live in Orange County and plan on campaigning after Labor Day. I campaigned for the President both times and really enjoyed it. How do you find people responding to your calls? I wondering if they’d be extra hostile because Hillary is a woman.

Don’t trust these polls, make them happen.

One would expect #DOI to talk about the outdoors, wouldn’t one? 🙂

Love the info about the coal mine reclamation work. This is so important for healing the environment and to create some jobs in coal country.

        Hel-lo CD4B. 🙂
DoI has done a lot to draw (positive) attention to itself during the Obama Admin. I think Sec Jewell ought to be commended for her handling of this portfolio (and PBO for his excellent choice).

I so agree vc. I have loved each of the weekly videos you have posted on TOD, and I always wonder why other departments do not do something similar. It has brought me such an awareness of the incredible beauty and uniqueness of our country.

Yes, I love the beautiful sights etc that DoI has showcased, and lately have taken to wishing we did something similar here. Weeks ago I actually looked online to see if we had a parallel approach to our Parks, but couldn’t find anything.

Last couple of statements aside, this article reflects just how dangerous hard-core Conservatives view Trump ….

Good article ( but for a couple of over the top thoughts on things) Should be read by the Republicans in all our families:) Maybe coming from another Republican, rather than us, it would mean more:)

Take some exception to some comments but good article overall. Totally agree with the need to deliver a CRUSHING defeat to DT and the GOP ticket. “Go get a switch”

TODers, don’t forget our down ballot campaigns. Polls are tightening up as GOP PACs start to focus on Senate rather than loser Trump. Without a majority in the Senate, HRC and our agenda will be hamstrung.

    McCain is pulling ahead again……
