I wouldn’t just like to share a beer with our POTUS and FLOTUS. I’d like to hang out with them every chance I had. They are delightful beyond words. Full of love, kindness, mirth, grit. Like our Nerdy. Wish I knew you too. Thanks today and always.

“A new poll by Public Policy Polling shows Hillary Clinton getting 43 percent, Donald Trump with 38 percent, and this was an actual choice, a giant meteor hitting the earth got 13 percent. 38 percent for Trump, 13 percent for meteor — that adds up to 51 percent of the people okay with the world coming to an end. Yes, two giant destructive orange balls.” –Stephen Colbert

SCOTUS shows that the “real” republicans are 100% behind Trump – regardless as to what they may say. Haven’t seen Susan Collins agitating for a vote on the appointment – nor any of the others who say they do not support Trump.

{{{GGail}}} and {{{Mme Sophie}} I’m so behind in posts, but saw your interest in this, and I will definitely let you all know if it comes to our teevees:

“A West African gem of a story (that doesn’t involve slavery) has been unearthed and is in the process of being brought to television.

NCIS producer Charles F. Johnson partnered with French producer-director-writer Joy Fleury, and producer Karen Gordy to tell the incredible story of The Dahomey women warriors, or Amazons, as the made-for-TV series is titled, according to Deadline.

If you haven’t heard of these fierce women, they formed an all-female militia comprised of 6,000 soldiers who protected and expanded the borders of the Kingdom of Dahomey (present-day Benin) for nearly 200 years before the French colonized the West African country in 1894, according to Shadow & Act.

By the way, Dahomey was the last West African empire that withstood colonization, and gender parity including ruling authority were values intricately woven into the fabric of society. ” [….]

I’ll be on the lookout for it. Sounds like the show has great potential; however, I’m disturbed by the title. For the life of me, I cannot fathom why Charles Johnson, in bringing to life little known history of an African kingdom and their brave women warriors, would appropriate for this show, the name of warriors from a different continent…

    Dropping this in here:

Perivi Katjavivi’s deeply poetic feature film debut is a collection of philosophical musings on what it means to be alive in post-colonial Namibia. Shot in stark black and white and weaving stylistically between fiction and documentary, The Unseen tells the parallel stories of three lost souls in Windhoek––a Namibian rapper (Matthew Ishitile), an African-American actor (Antonio David Lyons) and a young depressed woman (Senga Brockerhoff) who has recently returned home from a life overseas. The characters never actually cross paths. Rather, they’re tied together thematically by a sense of isolation from the rest of Namibian society.

“I used to have a show on the parliamentary channel in France and many people would stop me in the streets, people of color mostly—Arab and Blacks,” she tells me. “They would say, ‘You’re the only journalist to speak about what matters to us.’ People of different ages, from mothers to young people, because it’s so uncommon to see someone looking like me talking about these issues so openly.”

“In France it’s very taboo,” she continues. “Sometimes you get discouraged because you hear such stupid things in the debates. You’re like, ‘Why am I supposed to talk to this person?’ Then you have someone in the street that is throwing encouragement saying, ‘We need you because there is no one else,’ and that really helps me to understand.”

With a background in international law, human rights and TV production, Diallo, who is of Senegalese and Gambian descent, was raised in Paris’ 19th arrondissement . She first became interested in looking into and learning more about the world’s injustices when she was in her 20s. During her half a dozen or so years working in animation, she was also involved with several NGOs that fought for justice.

Inspired by the books of people like Naomi Klein and Aminata Traoré, Diallo not only speaks her truth through film, but through debates on French TV and radio on platforms including RTL, Canal +, TV5 and France 24. As one of the few women who do so, Diallo is fearless and will call out racism when she hears it in those discussions. …”

susanne, I don’t think that will happen. As POTUS said earlier this year in a town hall meeting when someone ask him about the First Lady running for office, POTUS said there are three things in life that are certain, death, taxes, and Michelle is not running for any political office.

And they have virtually stopped attacking Hillary – admitted today the only negatives are the emails – and why is that a negative – the awful awful political media.
I only watch them online – and not so often – just enjoying Halperin squirm after his revolting love scene with Trump on the plane.

No-one is asking about taxes – so the media still has a looong way to go.

    • August 9, 2016 at 10:06 am

Gosh, what a risk taker! Trump is such a flawed and disgusting candidate, so far down in the polls, only an idiot would think he’s a favorite at this juncture. Anything can happen, things can change of course, but what a joke!

Let’s keep working our butts off to ensure a thorough and humiliating SHELLACKING come November.

Who is Sen Durbin? He’s on there saying that Hillary will have to propose legislation that will keep the GOP senators happy? What is wrong with democrats – did they not see how well that went when PBO tried it!!

      August 9, 2016 at 8:40 am

Says they can’t get 60 in the senate & won’t win the house – great optimist this guy.

      • 59 jackiegrumbacher
        August 9, 2016 at 9:21 am

Even a bare majority of Dems in the Senate means that the majority leader is a Dem and controls the agenda. If Hillary wins the White House it will be in overwhelming numbers. Even though I personally loathe Dick Schumer, I believe he will help Hillary get the most critical parts of her agenda through. They will have to move quickly while the euphoria of the election is still high and the public appetite for obstruction is low. After she gets what she wants, she can throw the Repubs a bone or two.

        • 60 99ts
          August 9, 2016 at 9:24 am

They never seem to throw a bone back jackie – that is what conservative govts do world wide – demand lots and give nothing. I do understand the benefit of having the senate majority – chance that some people might get confirmed.

        • 61 amk for obama
          August 9, 2016 at 9:33 am

After last 8 years 100% of nihilism, throw a bone to the traitorous thugs? No way. The senate majority leader should asskick the rethug invented filibuster rule right at the start and start passing bills with a simple majority for all things the dems (and sane people) want from a government.

    • 62 Linda

He is what we call a ” ConservaDem “

      • 63 57andfemale
        August 9, 2016 at 9:07 am

Durbin is not a conservaDem ideologically at all. But this mindset is old thinking and Durbin, at his level of leadership, should know better. Unfortunately, Reid will be succeeded by Schumer & Durbin who are pragmatists to a fault. I’m all for pragmatism, but you have to know when it is political suicide.

Hopefully, this statement is calculated to “go broad” to win the election. That being said, going broad at the expense of those of us who have worked our hearts out for Dems, is insulting. It’s the wrong tack to take. However, it’s been clear for the last week or so that GOP is abandoning Trump and going strong into keeping Congress and the Senate and down ticket races. It may be a calculated statement, but should have been phrased better.

Why or why doesn’t the DNC hire George Lakoff to tune the messaging? GOP is brilliant at it. We need our own version.

        • 64 99ts
          August 9, 2016 at 9:18 am

He didn’t come across at all well 57. The GOP keeps saying the dems have to give them concessions and when the dems say that as well it simply enforces that “divine right to rule”. These people nominated Trump. I know how important it is to win the Senate – The more votes Hillary can get, the more votes will trickle down to the underneath dems.

Then again, I am not there – I always appreciate your response to the issues – thanks.

          • 65 57andfemale
            August 9, 2016 at 9:36 am

Durbin is great about 90% of the time, but he has a habit of blowing it when the cameras are on. Dems have yet to realize that they get a whole lot less camera time than GOP, and they need to make the most of it. Schumer, for example, is great at wasting his time saying that he has friends across the aisle, yada yada, while GOP will be relentless, punching at Dems their entire time. There really is no excuse that this still exists. Durbin should know better, but apparently he does not.

          • 66 57andfemale
            August 9, 2016 at 9:51 am

The Dems do not know how to carefully straddle the line. It’s a source of constant frustration, 99ts.

He had an easy opportunity to support Hillary also & he didn’t mention her (if my memory is correct). Hillary is going to carry the other races & supporting her would help this along.
